Caelan’s POV

"Hey man, are you really not going to choose a mate? How long are you going to wait for the fated one?"

I was sitting in my office when my long-ti friend and the beta of my pack walked into my office without knocking again and started nagging about the sa topic he had been nagging about for the last two hundred years or so.

"I already said it. I will wait for the one the moon goddess has chosen for . Do you think my choice is better than her’s?"

This had probably beco the one sentence I have said so much that now I didn’t even need to think to say it. It ca out of my mouth automatically as if programd.

"What if you are a loner and don’t have a fated mate?" Casper asked.

I hated it when people said that to , but he is my friend and I can’t possibly tear him apart.

However, my aura changed and an oppressive aura spread within the room.

"Alright...alright. Stop it. Don’t cripple for caring about you. I just don’t like seeing you so lonely. Others find their mates at eighteen, you have been waiting for nearly three hundred years. I just want you to find happiness." Casper sighed while saying this.

Of course I know he does this because he is my friend and is worried about . Not like those other old n who push thru daughters and relatives to claiming that it’s for my own good when they are really just trying to find a way to penetrate into power.

Being the king of the werewolves made a target for those power hungry mutts.

If I wasn’t in the council as well and in charge of the law enforcent departnt, with a lot of access to their hidden dealings, I bet they would have tried to strong-arm into taking so of their daughters or granddaughters as my chosen mate.

It is just because they fear my power, that no one has dared to try and force .

However, they would still bring up suggestions about choosing a mate from ti to ti.

"So, what are you so busy with that you don’t even have ti to look up and talk to ?" Casper kept nagging and I really was tempted to throw him out the window.

It’s only five floors anyway. He will survive such a fall.

"Just in case you have forgotten, I am not only the alpha of this pack, but also the alpha king. The king of all werewolves. I have more duties and work to do than most of the wolves combined and so do you. So, why are you always running to my office to disturb ?" I just couldn’t understand this guy’s character. Even though he looked young, he is already soone’s great-grandfather.

Why does he never act like one?

"Oh, I just wanted to check up on you and....." Before Casper could finish his excuse, I slled the Gamma even before he made it near my office.

My pack mbers and subordinates know that I don’t like being disturbed if I have not summoned them.

The only one who never cared about this rule is the one sitting across from .

Casper must have detected the Gamma too because he stopped talking mid-sentence.

Before long, a knock ca on the door.

"Co in." I said.

The Gamma pushed open the door and walked inside purposefully.

"King, an old woman showed up at the pack and said that she is here to see you. We tried to stop her and explained that she could leave a ssage and wasn’t allowed to disturb you but she insisted on seeing you. She claid that it concerned the future of all werewolves and also, your fate." The mont I heard, "Your fate," I knew that the old woman was not joking.

Not many people know, in fact, only my late father knew that there was a prophecy left a long ti ago concerning my fated mate. Which is why no matter what anyone said, I refused to choose a mate and insisted on waiting for the fated one no matter how long it takes.

The prophecy said that for the werewolves to survive and for our pack to prosper, I must et the fated one and must not betray. Otherwise, destruction is what awaited all werewolves.

I never said anything to anyone because it would create panic or at least, no one would believe it.

However, my father, the forr king, emphasized that I must always rember that prophecy and that it is better to take a gamble and lose than to test fate.

"Bring her to ." I ordered the Gamma then turned to the idler in my office.

"And you, go idle sowhere else." I ordered Casper.

"Yes, my king." The Gamma bowed his head and left to bring the old woman to my office.

"Oooh....Lan, how could you be so cruel? I am so worried about you and ca to relieve you of your boredom, yet you call idle? How heartless!" Casper said dramatically holding his chest but I was already used to his antics after hundreds of years of being friends.

"Just get out. Go play with your descendants if you have nothing better to do. I am busy."

"Alright, I’ll leave now. If you need anything, you know where to find ."

Casper said seriously before leaving.

I sighed at the way his expression could change like the weather.

One minute the sun is shining and the next, dark clouds cover the sky.

Casper walked out and closed the door behind him.

Soon, another knock ca at the door.

"Co in."

The Gamma walked into the office with an old woman in dirty clothes following behind him.

"She is here." The Gamma said and I waved my hand to dismiss him.

After he had left, I offered the old woman a seat.

"What do you want to tell ?" I asked as soon as she was seated and I had served her a glass of water.
