Karl’s POV
Even though I had always treated Valerie as a toy I could play with and a prize I would win after the bet with Mike was complete, I never imagined seeing her in such a bad state.
Of course, she had been beaten many tis before by pack mbers. Sotis I would step in and offer so protection, just to improve her impression of and make it easier for to win the bet.
At tis I would just let them beat her. After all, a good slave needed training.
But I never imagined seeing her beaten to an inch of her life. Even without touching her, I could tell she was breathing out more than she was breathing in.
The air in her lungs was running out, probably because so broken bones were poking her lungs.
If the doctors didn’t move quickly, she would definitely die.
I felt anger that I had never felt before. How dare anyone turn my prey into such a ss?
Now, even if I showed concern, Valerie wouldn’t know because she had been beaten into unconsciousness.
Then I heard Mike calling my na and asking if I was staying for the exam.
How dare he ask? It was his romance debt that had caused my prey to be turned into such a thing. Don’t think I didn’t see Innocent in the room when we ca in. She must have done this to Valerie.
I always wonder how Mike couldn’t tell that the bitch was a green tea.
She was far from being innocent. In fact, she was a devil. I had once co across her ordering thugs to violate a girl just because she had talked to Mike, or done sothing for him,I couldn’t rember the details.
The way she had emphasized about them letting the girl have a taste of being played by multiple n so that she would stop eying other people’s n made understand that her innocent and understanding personalities were just a facade she put for the naive to see.
I couldn’t believe that Mike had been deceived by such cheap tricks. But that was none of my business, so I never got involved.
Even when the girl was found ruined and accused of a massacre and executed, I never said anything. After all, she had nothing to do with .
But Valerie was different. She was supposed to be my prize, my prey. If anything happened to her, soone would have to pay, and that soone is Innocent.
I don’t care if she was Mike’s lover or chosen Luna. I will make her regret ever being born if Valerie did pull through.
I snapped from my thoughts and realized that Mike was looking at differently. Only then did I realize that I had let my mask drop. I couldn’t afford to expose my thoughts, so I pulled myself together and composed my expression.
"I want to make sure she is okay." I replied to Mike after he asked for the second ti if I would remain in the room during the examination.
"How can you remain here? You are a man. n and won should keep their distance." Mike countered.
"Aren’t you a man as well? Why aren’t you leaving?" I shot back.
Even though Valerie was his mate, I had no intention of letting him have her first. I am not one to eat leftovers. So, I wasn’t letting him have Valerie’s first ti.
And I had to take precautions against that without being too obvious. I was still in his territory after all.
"She is my mat...." Mike shot back without thinking before stopping abruptly as he realized that there was a third person in the room.
However, it was already too late. The female doctor had her mouth wide open in shock looking between Mike and Valerie on the bed.
She looked at them back and forth until Mike spoke again.
"Look one more ti and I will dig your eyes out. Also, if what was said in here leaves this room, you can expect a heavy punishnt."
This seed to snap the doctor back to reality and she imdiately apologized and promised to never breathe a word to anyone.
She looked at the two of us and suggested, "Why don’t the two alphas wait outside as well? It might be uncomfortable for Valerie if she wakes up and finds n watching her while naked."
I didn’t have any objections to that, after all, I didn’t want to piss off Valerie before my goal was achieved.
"But I..." Mike began protesting but I didn’t give him the chance.
I pulled him by the shoulder and walked out of the room before shutting the door behind us.
Valerie’s POV
I heard the door click and only then did I struggle to open my heavy eyes.
I had lost consciousness the mont Mike and Karl walked into the room, but the pain was too much for and it brought back.
I had been awake all this ti as the two alphas competed in the size of their ego.
It was sad to see that they had ti to argue about whether to stay in the room and watch be examined or not while I was in agony on the bed.
Both of them only cared about their interests and no one seed to understand that I was in excruciating pain and I had serious injuries that needed to be attended to.
The doctor lowered herself to move a little closer for a thorough examination when I opened my eyes.
This sohow shocked her and she looked at as if she had seen a ghost.
"You can still stay awake with such injuries?" She asked softly as she took a pair of scissors to cut off my dress.
She was afraid of making big movents while taking off my clothes and making my injuries worse. So, she decided to just cut the clothes off my body.
"The pain is the reason I am forced to stay awake." I answered in what I gathered was almost a whisper.
"You are strong Valerie. Hang in there." The doctor encouraged and she was the first person to genuinely praise since my mother’s death.
