I looked around at the mocking expressions, the smug looks, the disgusted and twisted faces, and the fingers pointing at and laughed. It was a laugh filled with pain and humiliation, yet I still continued to defend myself even though I knew it was futile.

"I didn’t take your necklace Innocent." That was all I said.

I knew that even if I said more, it would be of no use.

"How dare you take sothing I have given my Luna?" Mike asked as he moved towards at such a high speed that he was almost invisible.

The next thing I knew, his large hand was wrapped around my neck choking the air out of my lungs.

"Where is the necklace, tell ." He insisted.

However, I couldn’t even defend myself anymore because he was choking and I was struggling even to get a wisp of air into my lungs. The whispers around intensified but I couldn’t hear them anymore.

My head was buzzing due to the lack of oxygen and my face was turning blue even though I couldn’t see it, I could feel it becoming cold.

My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets and my mouth opened wide, but even with all the struggle, I couldn’t get air.

My neck was in pain, but my heart was hurting even more. For so reason, the bond that Lizzie had blocked was very active at that mont and the fact that my supposed fated mate didn’t care about one bit and even helped others to hurt was more painful than anything else.

I could literally feel my heart tearing apart and bleeding all over the place. I wondered why I ever had hoped that once I ca of age, I would find my mate and they would take out of this hell-hole.

I had fantasized that I would find my mate from another pack and he would be kind, gentle, and loving like how it is explained in books.

I had fantasized about my mate showing up in a white horse like prince charming in those fairy tale stories to sweep off my feet and take away from this pack and this suffering.

But I was very wrong. So wrong that I couldn’t be any more wrong.

My mate was never going to be my savior. My mate was never going to be taking out of this hell-hole, because he was among those who created it.

He didn’t even blink when he convicted of sothing I didn’t do. At that mont, I felt helpless, and I understood how my father must have felt when he was falsely accused of helping other packs attack them, when all he ever did was defend these ungrateful people.

"You wretch, why aren’t you saying anything?" Mike asked with a growl, anger evident from the way veins nearly popped open on his face.

I wondered whether he was, blind, dumb or simply stupid. He was choking so hard I couldn’t even breathe, how was he expecting to talk?

From the corner of my now blurry eyes, I saw Karl in the crowd. He was looking at with a detached expression as if he wasn’t the one who usually pretended to care for .

I bet he was thinking that I couldn’t see him.

I could feel my consciousness slipping away and my mind becoming fuzzy. My sight was already too blurry to see anything clearly now, yet Mike still didn’t let go.

At this point, I resigned myself.

Karl’s POV

I heard the commotion as soon as I walked out of my room on the third floor. Walking down the stairs slowly, I stood at the landing on the stairs near the living room.

From there, I could see everything going on down there.

Valerie was standing in the middle of a crowd with a bloody face. Seeing that beautiful face scratched like that, I felt a twitch in my heart, but I soon ignored it.

She had always been my prey, a prize I had to win after a bet. The first ti I saw her was three years ago when I ca to the Night claw pack. I was attracted to her bright eyes and even after finding out she was a pack slave, I wanted to own those eyes.

I wanted to see them looking at with adoration and admiration. I wanted to possess every expression they made, then I would destroy them so that they never looked at anyone again.

Then Mike suggested a bet wheñ he discovered my interest in the slave, and I agreed, because it made things more interesting.

I have worked for three years to get her to trust and beco dependent on , but now Mike tells that she is his mate and he would get her first.

I couldn’t accept that, but I couldn’t do anything yet. But now I realized that to completely possess everything about her without Mike’s interference even if he was her mate, I had to up my ga.

My concern should go beyond just giving her small gifts and teaching her.

And at this mont, I saw an opportunity. Since Mike was so against her and even defending soone else, now was my chance to perform and improve Valerie’s dependence on .

However, I couldn’t save her imdiately, I had to let her suffer first. Once I saved her when she was on the verge of death, she would be more grateful to .

Her relationship with Mike would also take a hit from how he was treating her.

So, I descended the stairs and waited for the right opportunity in the crowd.

When I saw that Valerie’s breathing was becoming too shallow and her face had turned purple from being choked, I finally stepped in.

"Mike, let her go. You are going to kill her." I said as I walked over to them and pried Mike’s fingers from Valerie’s neck.
