I also needed to set up a defense system so that if any of the security asures put in place is triggered, I would be able to fight back if it was an intruder.
Having the ability to fight alone was limited, especially since I can’t shift to my wolf to avoid exposing Lizzie.
I wasn’t naive enough to think that I would be safe just because I got away from the Night Claw Pack.
With my father’s execution hanging over like a stormy cloud, I knew I would never be safe until everything was cleared up and I know why exactly my father was killed.
So, I had to take precautions.
I didn’t believe for one mont that the council mbers who had been bent on making things difficult for would just let go because I left.
Even if they did, Mike would probably not.
Hours passed without noticing and the sky outside darkened completely.
The forest outside beca a sea of shadows and the active sound of animals and birds lessened.
But even so I didn’t stop, and I couldn’t.
Because every line of code I wrote, created a safeguard for my protection.
It was another step toward independence.
A soft knock at the door startled and withdrew from my cocoon.
I froze instantly wondering how on my first day, soone had managed to track down.
Every sense in my body sharpened and every instinct beca alert.
"Delivery," a voice called from outside.
That made relax instantly.
Right, the mall. They must have co to deliver the things I ordered.
I stood up and walked downstairs, looking composed.
I didn’t want anyone to notice anything unusual.
I couldn’t let them know that I was alone.
I didn’t have the habit of trusting people so easily. Not after what happened with Karl.
Even though he apologized and claid that he liked , I didn’t believe a word of it.
Now, out here, I had to be even more careful.
When I opened the door, two delivery n stood there with boxes surrounding them.
They had already unloaded everything from the truck.
"Miss Valerie?" one of them asked.
"Yes." I replied with a polite smile.
"Delivery from Zentage mall."
I nodded my head in understanding and stepped aside to let them move the boxes inside.
I couldn’t show any unusual behavior when dealing with ordinary humans.
A girl my size could never carry those heavy boxes. So, I let them carry them inside the house for .
They carried everything in quickly, placing the boxes neatly near the entrance.
Then, one of them gave a paper attached to a clipboard and said,
"Sign here."
I did without hesitation.
"Thank you." I said after the signature was done.
"You are welco. We are just doing our job." The delivery man who gave the receipt to sign replied with a smile.
Then they left just as quickly as they arrived and the house beca quiet once more.
I looked at the pile of boxes for a mont, then smiled faintly.
"Guess it’s ti to make this place personal."
Unpacking was... surprisingly enjoyable.
I had never had such an experience before.
For the last eight years, everything I wore was sothing picked out of a trash can because soone didn’t want them and threw them away.
Even after becoming Luna, everything was purchased by Lady Bernice or Lilith and maids sorted them out and arranged them for .
I have never had the experience of personally unboxing stuff.
Now, experiencing it, it made feel like those children I saw on TV opening Christmas gifts.
There were different personal items in each box such as shoes, clothes, and small things ant to make the space personal.
I arranged everything in the house slowly, carefully and deliberately as if staking a claim.
When I was done, it was almost midnight and the house now had my personal touch. It was MY space.
Mine.
Hunger pangs hit suddenly and that’s when I realized that I hadn’t had a decent al the whole day and it was already the next day since it was already midnight.
I looked towards the kitchen, then at the bag of groceries that had been delivered with the other boxes.
I picked it up and headed to the kitchen.
I will never starve again no matter what.
Especially since I could cook als that rival Michelin star chefs.
Cooking was easy and comforting and within half an hour, I had a full al prepared.
In the Night Claw Pack, cooking used to be a form of torture that others used against .
Forcing to cook even when I was on the verge of collapse from exhaustion and hunger and yet not let eat even a bite.
However, I should thank them because they trained into the chef I was now.
I sat at the dining table alone, but the silence didn’t bother .
In fact, I welcod it because for the first ti since my parents death, I ate without restraint.
No one would look at like I had killed their parents just because I ate a plate of pasta. And no one would judge .
After dinner, I stepped outside and felt the night and cool air kiss my skin.
It felt refreshing.
The sky above was filled with stars, completely unobstructed and endless.
I stepped forward and walked a little further into the clearing that was the compound surrounding the house. Only stopping just before the treeline.
My wolf stirred restlessly as if feeling curious.
"You can co out if you want," I whispered.
I knew Lizzie had always felt restricted in the Night Claw Pack.
She could never show herself for so reason, so after shifting the first ti when I was thirteen, I have never dared to let her out again.
However, here, in this personal space that only we own, she could finally set herself free.
