That night, Jonas Kingsley had a dream, a dream in which he was supposed to marry Evelyn Rowan, but when he lifted the veil from the bride’s head, the bride’s face unexpectedly resembled Iris Crawford’s.

She was lightly smiling at him.

Jonas Kingsley suddenly awoke, more startled than by a nightmare, he sat up in bed and grabbed his phone for a glance—it was eight in the morning, the perfect ti.

Taking a deep breath as he got out of bed, he received a call from Evelyn Rowan, saying the Rowan Family was urging them to get their marriage certificate quickly.

Jonas Kingsley felt like the dream hadn’t faded; after hanging up the phone, he found himself thinking about the dream again.

Bad.

Jonas Kingsley had lived for over twenty years and had never been as panicked as this; Iris Crawford’s existence had beco a thorn in his throat, bringing a dull pain whenever he tried to swallow.

He wanted to see Iris Crawford, right now.

It seed that only by seeing that woman could his current racing heart calm down a bit.

Getting out of bed, Hannah Lennox was waiting outside. Jonas Kingsley frowned, "You seem like you have sothing to say."

"Today is madam’s birthday."

Hannah Lennox nodded slightly and handed over the carefully selected clothes, "We should go and celebrate madam’s birthday."

Jonas Kingsley paused.

It was his mother’s birthday today.

After a long silence, Jonas Kingsley slowly said, "I don’t really want to go."

Hannah Lennox understood Jonas Kingsley’s feelings; every ti it was madam’s birthday, it was the hardest ti for Jonas Kingsley.

He resented his mother for bringing him into the world, suffering cold shoulders, unloved since childhood—if he had a choice, Jonas Kingsley would rather not have been born.

His Adam’s apple moved up and down, and Jonas Kingsley said, "I want to go see Iris Crawford."

Hannah Lennox widened her eyes slightly, finding Jonas Kingsley’s words sowhat unbelievable, but quickly composing herself, she said to Jonas Kingsley, "Alright, Third Young Master, I’ll imdiately investigate Miss Crawford’s schedule, but what about madam..."

"Please refuse on my behalf."

Jonas Kingsley suppressed his gaze, "I don’t really want to see this mother."

With a sigh, Hannah Lennox said, "Third Young Master, perhaps you and madam are just one step away from opening up..."

"There’s no purpose in living once that’s opened up."

Jonas Kingsley turned around, his back somber and lonely, "It’s better left unsaid. I’d rather live a lifeti with the kind of history of being hard, so that when it’s brought up, I could be understood, even if only vaguely."

Hannah Lennox was heavily shocked, remaining silent for a long ti.

Iris Crawford was brought to work by Lachlan Wyatt today.

Ever since resigning from his position as President of The Wyatt Group, Lachlan Wyatt had been exceptionally idle, akin to an aimless jobless person. With nothing better to do, Lachlan Wyatt simply beca Iris Crawford’s personal bodyguard, trailing her like a loyal dog. He had been picking up and dropping off Iris Crawford for two days straight, and every morning, he even prepared her a bento with love.

Dane Rivers was dumbfounded when he heard about it and suggested Lachlan Wyatt visit a dojo just to see if he was possessed by soone.

When Jeremy Carter learned that Lachlan Wyatt was now Iris Crawford’s personal bodyguard, he indifferently adjusted his glasses, "I had anticipated this day would co. He was stubborn before, isn’t this what he deserves now?"

The only one feeling depressed was Hector Sutton, who had been hoping to pursue Iris Crawford. Now, with Lachlan Wyatt blocking his way, it’s beco more difficult for him.

Yet Iris Crawford didn’t feel awkward at all; the two of them had fallen into a peculiar state of peace, as if the pain had never happened.

"Miss Crawford, there’s a client here."

"Hmm?"

At noon, Iris Crawford was eating the sushi Lachlan Wyatt had prepared—the rich, bluefin tuna lting in her mouth, very delicious. After finishing, she glanced at today’s schedule, "Strange, I haven’t arranged to et any clients today."

"It’s said to be..."

The assistant glanced at Iris Crawford with an indescribable expression, "Miss Crawford, an old acquaintance of yours."

An old acquaintance?

Iris Crawford was stunned, "I don’t have any old acquaintance..."

"It seems our receptionist recognized them and let them in."

The assistant didn’t know why the receptionist suddenly made such a unilateral decision, but since the receptionists are familiar with the person, President Crawford naturally knows him as well.

So Iris Crawford nodded her head. The assistant withdrew, bringing soone in afterward. Iris Crawford was then surprised.

Standing before her was none other than... Jordan Jacobs.

Iris Crawford took a deep breath, unable to believe her eyes. After so many years, she had almost forgotten Jordan Jacobs’ existence. Ever since the incident with Yvonne Jennings, the Jacobs Family had fallen on hard tis, and she hadn’t heard from Jordan Jacobs in a very long ti—not until now...

He suddenly appeared before her.

Jordan Jacobs still looked the sa as in her mory; even though his family had fallen, his face hadn’t changed at all.

He was indeed handso back then; his looks had clouded Iris Crawford’s judgnt.

Coming back to herself, Iris Crawford said, "Why are you here?"

Jordan Jacobs stood in front of Iris Crawford; after so many years, he had wanted nurous tis to find her and reconcile, but each ti, he hesitated.

Iris Crawford, I cannot explain what I did to you back then, but now...

Jordan Jacobs spoke haltingly, "I... I’ve started another company on the side, and I happened to connect with yours. I thought, we’re old acquaintances, so I ca to find you and have a chat..."

"What?" Iris Crawford was a bit taken aback, "You don’t want the Jacobs Family’s previous business anymore and started a new company?"

"Yes, the Jacobs Family is in decline, and it’s hard to recover. I must find another way."

Jordan Jacobs seems different from before; Iris Crawford didn’t know how to describe it. The selfish arrogance in his eyes seems to have been completely smoothed by the mundane world.

In these years we’ve been disconnected, Jordan Jacobs, what have you gone through?

Iris Crawford said warily, "If it’s about business, just contact my assistant directly. I didn’t expect you to have the ability to resurrect the dead."

"I think that ability should belong to you."

Jordan Jacobs looked at Iris Crawford. His eyes seed a bit more hollow than before, perhaps due to the business travels in the past two years, but consequently, his gaze was deeper, no longer as frivolous as before. He said word by word, "Iris, you’re the one who always has the ability to resurrect the dead."

Iris Crawford is the kind who is not afraid of death. She has risked herself multiple tis and doesn’t know how many tis she’s narrowly escaped death. In Sarah Shaw’s words, Iris could go to the Underworld, slap King of Hell, and co back.

Her willpower is too firm.

"After being defeated by you these past few years, I realized how weak and useless I was."

Jordan Jacobs lowered his head, laughed once, "Haha, I always thought I was the chosen one; I had everything: prestige, power, wealth, social resources—I thought you were beneath because you were fat and stupid."

But Iris, it turns out I’m the one beneath you.

"I’m not in the mood for reminiscing."

Iris Crawford bluntly interrupted Jordan Jacobs, "We’re already like strangers; there’s no need to bring up the past."

"But I could still co to you, Iris, do you know what that ans?"

Jordan Jacobs suddenly slightly raised his tone, as if he had made up his mind, "Iris, I can still co back. Like the relationship between us, can it still..."

Iris Crawford suddenly understood what Jordan Jacobs was trying to do, and she imdiately called her assistant, "Show him out!"

"Iris!"

Jordan Jacobs suddenly advanced, "Don’t chase away; I don’t intend to force you!"

The assistant who rushed in looked at the scene and was sowhat at a loss. Iris said to her, "You... help get him out."

Before Jordan Jacobs could say anything, the next second, he directly knelt in front of Iris Crawford!

At that mont, Iris felt a tornado crashing over her face, she couldn’t breathe; it was as though... her heart was instantly torn apart.

"What are you doing."

Iris’s voice appeared unexpectedly flustered, "Assistant, quickly pull him out, call security!"

"Iris, next week is our wedding anniversary..."

Jordan Jacobs kneeled on the ground, the little assistant dared not go near him, because his eyes were so broken, as if they were completely crushed and now patched together, a soul full of cracks.

"Could you please, have a al with ."

The sight of Jordan Jacobs kneeling on the ground struck Iris deeply, she stepped back two steps, shaking her head, "Jordan, what are you doing?"

"What I’m doing you should be very clear about."

Jordan Jacobs lifted his head, eyes reddened, "I was a bastard in the past, but Iris, I have now proven myself. You can resurrect the dead; I can be a new person. Iris... it was only after I left you that I realized how vile I was. Every ti I heard about you and Lachlan Wyatt, I was jealous to death... Please give a chance."

Jordan Jacobs’s words, each one like a dagger, stabbing at Iris Crawford, she kept gasping for breath, even laughed until her eyes were red, "What are you trying to do with your submissive act now? Do you think just by kneeling can erase all the suffering I’ve gone through? Spare your false repentance, Jordan!"

Jordan Jacobs choked, "Why can’t you believe ... Because of you, my family fell apart, and I once wanted to die, but Iris, also because of you, I fought hard to rise again. I want to prove a better version of myself to you..."

"The downfall of your family is deserved; it’s your own fault!"

Iris retreated until she fell back onto her chair, she was breathless as if provoked by Jordan, "I’m doing well these days, yet you shalessly co to repent to ... Jordan, what will you use to repay ?"

Jordan Jacobs painfully closed his eyes, "I know you hate , if you hate then avenge , Iris. Next week is our wedding anniversary..."

Thinking about once having all your love, the pain almost kills .

"Being your husband was the luckiest thing for , but I didn’t cherish it, I let you slip away." Jordan got up from the ground, walked to the desk, his hands on it, eyes crazed, "You and Lachlan haven’t married all these years; there must have been obstacles. You are waiting for , aren’t you? Iris... can you co out for a al next week, even just for ten minutes."

Iris thought Jordan must have lost his mind; how else could he say such insane words, "I have no feelings left for you whatsoever..."

"Feelings can be nurtured." Jordan hurriedly said, "I let you down, hurt you, I apologize..."

Iris was stung by past events, naturally emotionally charged when facing Jordan. But what she didn’t know was that down below, Lachlan Wyatt had just parked his car and intended to co find her.

Seeing Lachlan, the receptionist was startled.

"Second Young Master Wyatt!"

"Why such a big reaction today."

Lachlan was familiar with the receptionist, laughing as he asked, "Did Iris give you a hard ti today?"

The receptionist’s eyes avoided, "No...um...it’s just... Miss Crawford might be busy now."

Lachlan sensitively sensed sothing was wrong, his fair face suddenly darkened slightly, "What’s she busy with?"

"Just now, Miss Crawford’s ex-husband... Jordan, Young Master Jacobs, went up to find her."

The receptionist stamred, "He, he said he was looking for Miss Crawford, to propose again."
