Hearing the words "give up," Lachlan Wyatt’s expression froze.
He was still so handso, a face that wouldn’t lose out standing next to anyone. No wonder countless won were once drawn to him.
But Lachlan, what happened that made you give up just like this?
Orion Crawford wished he could really punch Lachlan in the face, "I’ve always considered you a brother, Lachlan. You took care of my sister abroad for two years and brought back a healthy and lively version of her. I’ve always rembered this kindness in my heart. So, regarding you and my sister, though I was unwilling a thousand tis, I have co to accept it!"
For a brother’s keeper like Orion Crawford to concede, it must not have been easy.
"So why are you abandoning my sister at such a crucial mont?"
Orion Crawford loudly questioned Lachlan, "My sister has feelings for you..."
"There is love, but it can’t hold back the power and influence of The Royal."
Lachlan’s eyes were dark, as if hiding a burgeoning murderous intent, "There’s no use in rushing these matters."
"Is this really it?"
Orion Crawford was even more unwilling than Lachlan, "In what way is my sister not worthy of you..."
He couldn’t admit it, yet he had to — his sister and Lachlan were a perfect match...
Lachlan could tell at a glance how Iris Crawford’s smile was like a blooming lotus, and Iris knew the cunning and selfishness hidden in Lachlan’s eyes. They understood each other so well...
"Are you giving up?" Orion Crawford said, feeling exasperated, "I’ve co personally as your future brother-in-law, and you’re just going to give up like this! Lachlan, I command you, marry Iris and bring her ho tomorrow!"
Lachlan was startled by Orion Crawford’s words, and a thought in his heart seed almost uncontrollable.
Could he really just stand by and watch Iris marry soone else?
He couldn’t!
The pain coming from deep within his heart made Lachlan particularly clear-minded, clear enough that he couldn’t avoid facing the fact that he was indeed moved by Iris.
Whether to seize or fight for, he feared the day Iris married Dante...
"I’m sorry..."
Lachlan closed his eyes, calling out his grandmother’s na, "Dear Grandmother, I promised not to get involved in any Royal intrigues, but I might... have to break that promise."
Orion Crawford looked at Lachlan in shock, "Are you going to..."
Just then, the door outside was suddenly pushed open.
All the effort seed to have been for naught at that mont, as Lachlan and Orion Crawford looked up at the woman who barged in, both stunned.
"Brother, you shouldn’t have."
Iris stood at the door, her gaze complex, "How could you stir up Lachlan’s emotions? What if sothing happens..."
Lachlan was a madman, Iris had always known, willing to do anything because Lachlan never feared losing anything.
That was why Iris guessed that if her brother ca to The Kingdom of L, he would definitely go to talk to Lachlan.
Steven Rhodes had secretly told her about Orion Crawford’s plans, which was why Iris rushed here after leaving Seraphina Colbert.
Orion Crawford looked at his suddenly appearing sister, not knowing what to say; after a while, he said, "Sweetheart, I don’t want to see you unhappy."
"I’m not unhappy."
"When you’re with Lachlan, that’s when I see you happy."
Orion Crawford showed a sad look, "I don’t want my sister to be so savior! I also don’t want my sister’s reputation to be that of a hero... I just want you to co back and be my dear sister..."
Toward the end, Orion Crawford’s eyes were red, "If you marry far away, and we’re separated by countries, what am I, your brother, supposed to do without you..."
Iris was soft-hearted; seeing her brother so upset about her marriage, she felt bad for a mont, and she ca forward to hold Orion Crawford’s hand. He hugged her, "Think carefully again about the marriage, okay?"
Iris, feeling soft-hearted, could only agree with Orion Crawford for now. However, out of her sight, the man holding her gave Lachlan a thumbs-up behind her back.
Lachlan: "..."
Previously teary-eyed, Orion Crawford desperately made eye signals to Lachlan, as if to say, "I’ve helped you all I can; now it’s up to you!"
So Orion Crawford let go of Iris, patted her head, and said, "Talk things over well with Lachlan, and I’ll give you two space, okay? Don’t make your brother sad, boo hoo hoo hoo hoo..."
Iris’s face turned pale; she couldn’t resist listening to her brother, and with that, Orion Crawford left the room, leaving only the two of them.
Iris looked at Lachlan and noticed a certain weariness and haggardness on his face. However, this didn’t affect his refined features at all, even adding a sense of rugged wildness.
Iris turned her face away, "What did you discuss with my brother?"
But Lachlan replied with sothing entirely different, "Don’t marry Dante."
This was the first ti Iris heard Lachlan speak to her with such clear emotion.
He didn’t know about the deal between Iris and Dante, nor did he know Iris was doing it for Skye Lockwood and Cynthia. In Lachlan’s eyes, Iris had rely co to The Kingdom of L, dazzled by the splendor of The Royal Palace, thus determined to marry into it.
"It’s no longer your decision anymore," Iris replied indifferently to him, as if she had never loved him at all.
Lachlan lanted, "How can you always be so ruthless?"
Iris remained silent, and silence was its own kind of answer.
"Do you want to apologize?" Lachlan Wyatt suddenly burst into agitation, his face filled with anger and resentnt. "Iris Crawford, what do you want to do?! I’ve already beco like this for you!"
"I never begged you to beco like this!"
Iris couldn’t believe Lachlan was still getting angry at her. She shouted forcefully, "Why are you making yourself sound like a victim!"
"Why shouldn’t I be a victim!" Lachlan’s eyes were forced to redden. "These were all mine! All belonged to ! Iris, you’re mine too! But now they’ve all been taken away!"
"I’m yours?"
Iris laughed until tears ca, "Don’t kid yourself, Young Master Wyatt. Back when I liked you, you did everything possible to stop from falling for you!"
"So what if I regret it now!"
Lachlan seed to be at his wit’s end. His hands trembled as he tried to entwine his fingers with Iris’s. In the past, when they flirted, it was easy for him to slip between her soft fingers, but now...
No matter how hard he tried, Iris’s hand was like a fist.
He could no longer hold her hand tightly.
"I regret it, Iris, don’t be like this, please, I’m begging you..." By the end, so voices were choking with sobs, while others were expressionless and indifferent.
The word ’love’—truly nothing but an empty na.
Iris felt like her heart was damaged, once hurting so much, now numbed by the pain.
Is it still beating?
She instinctively clutched her chest.
Why is it always like this, always telling you can’t let go of when things are beyond redemption.
"You don’t love , so why not let go."
"I can... try to love you..."
Heart trembling, Lachlan didn’t even know how he uttered those words. He had never touched love in his life; compared to love, hatred was the emotion he encountered most often.
Love. Love. Love.
Iris... love only brings destruction, nothing else.
Lachlan wanted to hold Iris, but she wouldn’t let him touch her, as if she were really avoiding suspicion like his sister-in-law would.
"You vain woman!"
Lachlan seed betrayed, "Being with just to climb up to The Royal? You planned it all from the start! Clinging to like that before, now you won’t let touch you, pretending to be so white lotus! There’s no part of you I haven’t touched! I was the one who took your virginity!!"
Iris’s face turned ashen, as if she realized sothing, and she suddenly stood up and stepped back two paces, "Could it be what Yvonne said two years ago..."
Two years ago... two years ago...
That child...
Iris couldn’t bear such a shock, suddenly learning all this was driving her insane. "You’re lying, you have no evidence, you..."
"That night two years ago, it was ."
Seeing Iris in such panic, Lachlan suddenly felt numb to the core, "I drank too much and entered the wrong room, and your door wasn’t closed; maybe you’d drunk too much and forgot... Then I woke up and left without even seeing who it was. Later, Jordan Jacobs was brought in."
After Lachlan finished this long explanation, Iris felt as if she’d fallen into an ice cave, cold to the bone all over.
"So you actually knew before, that the child was yours..."
"I found out a while ago." Lachlan pressed Iris’s shoulder, "So in fact, two years ago, we cuckolded your ex-husband, didn’t we? Then why can’t betrayal of The Royal Family be done now?"
The word ’betrayal’ crushed Iris.
Iris kept shaking her head, tears welling up in her eyes, as if overwheld by too much information, "You knew everything but said nothing... And the kidnapping back then, you must have heard sothing, that’s why you saved , to use against Jonas Kingsley..."
Lachlan’s gaze deepened, "If you want to hear the truth, then yes."
"You have such a cruel heart!" Iris cried out in gut-wrenching agony, "That wasn’t just my child, it was your child too!"
Lachlan’s face turned pale, his breathing rapid.
"How could you stand by and watch! How could you!"
Iris finally knew the whole truth. Although she’d always known Lachlan had ulterior motives in saving her, she’d never thought he knew all along she was going to suffer misfortune, just waiting for the ti to act.
"How are you any different from Jordan Jacobs, who stood by and watched as I nearly died!!"
Iris pushed Lachlan hard, "You knew long ago that Yvonne hired people to kidnap to make Jordan choose between us, you knew it all along! You let stay in danger just to save my life! You didn’t stop it because I had to be on the brink of death; otherwise, if nothing happened to , you wouldn’t be able to use ! You had to save so you could make demands and use my hatred for bargaining. So you just watched as I almost died before acting!"
If I am nearly dying, only then can I beco valuable, giving you a chance to rescue and then use ...
Lachlan Wyatt, you are so cold, rescuing soone without warmth.
"If I almost died... what would you do? Find another target Jonas would harm, and then save her when she was in danger to make her stand on the sa side with you?"
Lachlan said nothing, his eyes already red, "Iris, why do you dwell so much on the past..."
Lachlan Wyatt! You have such a cruel heart!
Iris’s tears couldn’t stop flowing, "I was utterly wrong, only realizing at the end, what Jordan Jacobs, what Jonas Kingsley... Lachlan Wyatt, you are no different from them."
