787: Chapter 787: Encounter the Only Hope 787: Chapter 787: Encounter the Only Hope The researcher, nad David, clenched his shaking hands on the steering wheel.

He occasionally glared at Gu Fan and Su Hui, as if he was on guard against an attack.

When the car reached a junction and got stuck in traffic due to many vehicles queuing for inspection, Su Hui beca worried, fearing that the inspectors were in collusion with Organization X.

She urged David to drive towards another direction.

Doubts surfaced in David’s mind after they avoided the law enforcent officers inspecting the vehicles, making him feel Gu Fan and Su Hui were even more suspicious.

At that mont, Gu Fan patted David’s shoulder, saying, “I don’t have ti to explain now.

If you trust what we experienced together in the Triangle Sea Area, take to a safe place.”

After pondering for a bit, David drove into a lane and then onto another highway.

Monts later, the car pulled into a building with a courtyard.

It was David’s ho.

He opened the door and ushered Gu Fan and Su Hui inside.

Upon entering the house, Gu Fan and Su Hui sighed in relief, while David stood to the side, deliberately keeping a distance from them with a guarded expression still on his face.

Su Hui voiced her doubt, “Strange, it seems that you are afraid of us.

What exactly is going on?”

David asked, “Why did you avoid the law enforcent officers inspecting the vehicles?”

Gu Fan explained, “We had a conflict with Qiao Ya’s organization, which stirred up chaos in this town.

We didn’t want to invite further complications or expose our whereabouts.”

“Is Qiao Ya’s organization the Organization X?” David asked, sounding a bit tense, while pulling the curtain close.

Gu Fan nodded, “Yes.

Organization X went to your underground research base, killed many of your people, and took many research findings.

We just happened to bump into them.”

“By the way, how did you survive?” Su Hui’s question was also what Gu Fan wanted to know.

“I happened to take the day off that day, so I dodged a bullet.

But why are you here?” David replied.

“Strictly speaking, we ca to check on the situation of the space-ti door,” Gu Fan smiling awkwardly, unsure how to explain everything to David.

David seed incredulous, “Why on Earth would you need to check on the condition of the space-ti door?”

“Well…” Gu Fan scratched his head, trying to shift the topic, “That’s not really important.

The space-ti door has been destroyed.

I want to ask if you can create a new one?”

Upon hearing this, David seed puzzled.

Su Hui sensed sothing off, “What’s wrong, David?

You seem afraid of us, like you don’t quite trust us.”

David visibly grew even more nervous.

As Su Hui walked closer, he promptly stepped back.

Gu Fan said, “David, you trust us.

That’s why you brought us to your ho.

If sothing has happened, you can tell us.

Maybe we’re the only ones who can help you now.”

David hesitated for a mont, then said, “When my holiday was over, I returned to the underground research base, only to find everyone murdered—my colleagues, my friends, gone without a trace.

So, I reviewed the surveillance footage and found out that Su Lei led a group there.

They were the ones who murdered most of the people at the base.

Then I saw…”

A guilty expression spread across Gu Fan’s face after hearing this, making it hard for him to face David.

Su Hui continued, “You saw a woman who looked exactly like Lin Xi arrived at the research base and killed the remaining people, including Su Lei’s group and a few from the research base.

She also destroyed the space-ti door.”

Seeing David nod, Gu Fan understood why he was so afraid of them.

“I’m sorry, David.

I truly am.

But I know that my words cannot change a thing.

I hold responsibility for this,” Gu Fan apologized repeatedly with earnest expression, then continued, “It might be hard for you to believe, but this Lin Xi is not the true one.

She just looks exactly like her.”

“What?

Looks exactly the sa?” David frowned, sounding skeptical.

He then asked, “Then where’s the real Lin Xi?

why did this fake Lin Xi destroy the space-ti door?”

Gu Fan gave a self-deprecating smile, looking sowhat helpless.

“Do you rember the last ti Lin Xi and I travelled to ancient tis through the space-ti door?

Well, we returned to the present, but the Lin Xi who returned with isn’t the real Lin Xi.

She’s still in ancient tis.”

David listened, with a slightly confused look.

He didn’t quite grasp what Gu Fan was trying to convey.

Gu Fan had no choice but to give a sigh and reveal everything to David.

Once David had processed everything, his mind spun.

He couldn’t believe in the concept of reincarnation.

But seeing Gu Fan’s earnest expression, he accepted the explanation.

Looking at David in shocked silence, Gu Fan said, “I apologize, David.

However, right now you are my only hope.

Can you build a new space-ti door to bring back Lin Xi?

I am solely relying on you.”

After hearing this, David grew angry.

“Easy for you to say.

I warned you not to disrupt history when entering the space-ti door, but you didn’t listen.

Now you’ve caused a big ss.”

Gu Fan also felt guilty, “I’m sorry, I didn’t have a choice.

If I didn’t agree to Qian Ye’s conditions, Qian Ye wouldn’t have saved Lin Xi.”

David was still angry.

Just as he was about to storm off, Su Hui imdiately stopped him.

“David, I know you’re furious.

Gu Fan did make a mistake.

He ignored your advice and didn’t let you in on everything.

But, most of the people from the underground research base were killed by Organization X.

Qian Ye only killed a few people and destroyed the space-ti door.

You can’t lay all the bla on Gu Fan.”

To this, David scoffed, “If it wasn’t Organization X who arrived first, if it was Qian Ye, then she would have slaughtered everyone in the underground research base.

The sin would be so great that Gu Fan would never be able to wash it away his whole life.”

Hearing the words, Gu Fan sunk into silence, feeling sowhat upset and guilty.

Not backing down, Su Hui said firmly, “David, your argunt is purely hypothetical.

It’s unfair to place such bla on Gu Fan.

What if Qian Ye had co a step later, and the remaining researchers and critical items like the space-ti door ended up with Organization X?

Misusing your research results would only worsen the situation.”

“What do you an?

Am I supposed to thank Qian Ye for killing my colleagues and destroying our hard work?” Having said that, David stord off angry.
