Chapter 1689: Chapter 1689: Good Intentions

“Can you help rescue Qian Feng?” Such simple words carried endless hope. Qian Xue kept her eyes fixed on Gu Fan, quietly awaiting his response.

Gu Fan was about to speak when Gu Xiaojin interrupted, “Of course! My dad loves helping others; he’ll definitely help. Also, if we’re doing such a big favor for the Shennv Xuanhui, can my overdue tuition fees be waived?”

“Tuition fees? Since when did your Shennv Xuanhui start charging tuition?” Gu Fan looked baffled.

After hearing everyone’s explanation, Gu Fan finally understood the situation. It turned out that Qian Feng had nothing better to do and suddenly got the idea to expand the Shengnv Xuanhui by opening classes and teaching magic.

Through Gu Ling’s recomndation, Gu Xiaojin beca the first student of the Shengnv Xuanhui. But before Gu Xiaojin could pay the tuition, chaos engulfed the world.

Gu Fan started to doubt the whole “teaching and expanding” idea; it seed more likely that Qian Feng just wanted Gu Xiaojin to join the Shennv Xuanhui and fill Qian Ye’s vacant position.

For now, Gu Fan wanted to know more about what had really happened to the Shennv Xuanhui. Could it be that…

As expected, because Qian Feng led the Shennv Xuanhui against the Demon King, the Shennv Xuanhui ended up being besieged by the X Legion. Ning Qi betrayed them, Qian Ying was killed, and Qian Feng was captured, her life hanging by a thread.

Qian Xue joined the X Legion and aided their tyranny solely to keep Qian Feng alive.

Gu Fan nodded, saying he would take on the mission, no matter what it took to get Qian Feng out. But the real problem was: where was Qian Feng being held?

“I don’t know where Qian Feng is being held, but she does.” Qian Xue’s gaze instantly fell on Ning Qi, which made Ning Qi tremble with fear.

The Shennv Xuanhui despised traitors more than anything else, and Ning Qi was undeniably one. Thus, once Qian Feng was rescued, her first priority would be to deal with Ning Qi.

Gu Fan understood what Ning Qi was fearing, so he made her a promise, “Ning Qi, as long as you tell where Qian Feng is being held, I guarantee your safety.”

“How can you guarantee that? Eventually, you’ll return to your ti; you won’t stay here forever.” Ning Qi didn’t believe Gu Fan at all and was resolute about not divulging anything.

This put Gu Fan in a tough spot. Without resolving this conflict, handling the situation would be nearly impossible.

Everyone knew Qian Feng’s personality; she wouldn’t let Ning Qi go. And this was precisely why Ning Qi refused to reveal Qian Feng’s location.

Gu Fan thought about asking others to protect Ning Qi, but when he saw their disinterested attitudes, he knew it wouldn’t work.

Just then, Gu Xiaojin stepped forward, raised her hand, and said, “Dad, how about this—I’ll protect Ning Qi and convince Master Qian Feng to let go of her grievances. But the prerequisite is that Ning Qi has to redeem herself.”

Upon hearing this, everyone agreed that Gu Xiaojin was the perfect candidate. She was Lin Xi’s reincarnation, and Qian Feng would undoubtedly have a favorable impression of her—and certainly give her so leeway.

“No way!” Ning Qi refused outright, her expression full of disdain. She even cast a suspicious glance at Gu Xiaojin.

It was true—Gu Xiaojin didn’t like Ning Qi at all. So why was she suddenly standing up for Ning Qi now? Could it really be for the greater good?

Qian Xue said calmly, “Gu Fan, opportunities may only co once. Don’t hesitate.”

Hearing this, Gu Fan frowned. Qian Xue’s veiled hint was clear—she was telling Gu Fan there was no need to reason with Ning Qi. Since Ning Qi was in his grasp, coercive interrogation or persuasion, no matter the thod, would suffice as long as it produced results.

Ning Qi also picked up on the undertone of Qian Xue’s words and was instantly terrified. Her eyes filled with dread as she stared at Gu Fan’s composed expression, completely unable to discern his thoughts, which only made her heart race faster.

The others were already prepared to restrain Ning Qi and extract the information forcefully.

At this mont, Ning Qi realized just how helpless she was in the enemy’s camp.

“Worst-case scenario, I’ll take soone down with ,” Ning Qi thought as she steeled herself, scanning the crowd for the weakest link.

Suddenly, Gu Fan couldn’t help but chuckle, turned to Ning Qi, and said firmly, “Ning Qi, don’t worry. If you don’t want to talk, no one here will force you, nor will anyone harm you. But I hope you’ll consider this—you give us the intelligence, and we’ll let you leave.”

Ning Qi felt that Gu Fan was genuinely sincere and without malice. After so serious thought, she decided to share the information.

Apparently, after being severely injured by the Demon King, Qian Feng was placed into a stasis pod, where she remained in deep slumber. This stasis pod was located in the X Legion’s third base.

“Alright, I’ve told you what you wanted to know. Gu Fan, I hope you’ll keep your promise and let go.” Ning Qi stared earnestly at Gu Fan, waiting for his response.

Leng Feng was the first to object, “No way! She’s too cunning. We don’t know if what she said is true, and if we let her go, her first move will be to have Qian Feng relocated. Then we’ll have wasted all our efforts.”

The others agreed with Leng Feng, thinking they shouldn’t release Ning Qi too soon, at least not until they rescued Qian Feng.

Gu Fan listened to their opinions but still decided to release Ning Qi. He even provided her with a motorcycle and so food.

In that mont, Ning Qi was stunned. She had been ntally prepared for prolonged detention but hadn’t anticipated that Gu Fan would actually follow through.

The others were unwilling but didn’t defy Gu Fan’s decision, ultimately letting Ning Qi leave.

Only Lu Yi was frustrated, lanting, “Ugh, there goes all the perks for the guys.”

Nobody bothered to console Lu Yi; instead, everyone turned to Gu Fan, hoping he would reconsider.

“Well, Gu Fan, at least you’ve proven trustworthy.” Ning Qi mounted the motorcycle, donned a helt, waved, and sped off without looking back.

Many people couldn’t understand—wasn’t Gu Fan worried Ning Qi might have given false information? Why release her without verifying anything?

To this, Gu Fan responded with a thought-provoking statent, “Sotis, integrity itself is the key to success. People may deceive you, but they won’t doubt your sincerity. And that’s what I’m banking on.”

Gu Fan’s deeper aning was that even if Ning Qi had tricked him, it wouldn’t matter. What mattered to Gu Fan was earning Ning Qi’s trust, which might ultimately be the decisive factor in victory.

Everyone was left baffled, unable to grasp the depth of his reasoning. But since it was Gu Fan’s decision, they supported him unconditionally.

“I hope you’re right, Gu Fan,” Qian Xue said. Although she disagreed, the decision was in Gu Fan’s hands, and she couldn’t argue.
