1251: Chapter 1251: Stepping into a Trap 1251: Chapter 1251: Stepping into a Trap Day finally broke, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief, for the trees around the River of Survival, though tall and ancient, were not as dense in foliage as those in the forest, and plenty of sunlight filtered through, shining down upon the river.
This ant that if they encountered vampire soldiers on the River of Survival, there would be less to worry about, after all, sunlight was the vampire’s greatest nesis.
According to the scouting report, ahead they found a simple sluice that had been hastily constructed; however, it seed to only serve as a barrier preventing things from crossing over, not stopping the water flow.
General Horton ordered everyone to stand by at their current location, while he went to take a look in person.
Naturally, Gu Fan, Su Hui, Lin Xi, and Zhuo Hang followed him, as they too were curious about the situation.
Hiding in the dense forest, they observed through their binoculars and found people patrolling back and forth on the makeshift sluice, ard with guns and unbothered by the sunlight, suggesting they were just ordinary soldiers from Organization X, and there weren’t many, just a dozen or so.
General Horton’s plan was to take them by surprise, eliminate those guards quickly, end the fight, then open the sluice for the troops to pass through.
Gu Fan was sowhat worried that if they couldn’t take out all the guards in one fell swoop, just one escapee would be enough to send information to Organization X, and then everyone would have to face the organization’s frantic pursuit and blockade.
“Leave it to fate,” everyone turned around and began assigning tasks to each other, first sending two groups of people to shore, to approach the simple sluice from land, then Lin Xi would use bird control to determine if both groups were in position and find the best timing to strike.
At the sound of gunfire, everyone should attack imdiately, quickly take down the simple sluice, and prepare for the possibility of being discovered by Organization X.
So the plan unfolded according to General Horton’s intention, with two groups of rcenaries, fifteen in each, landing first and then silently advancing toward the sluice.
Ahead on the River of Survival, so boats advanced first.
Su Hui had the most accurate aim; she and all the sharpshooters in the team followed the others ashore, as the success or failure of the mission hinged on whether they could surprise and take out most of the guards in the shortest ti possible.
Another key factor was Lin Xi, controlling birds to circle above the simple sluice, counting the number of people because they moved around, so entering rooms, so exiting, making it hard to find the most favorable opportunity.
At this very mont, both sides of the River of Survival were well-ambushed, Su Hui crouched with her rifle, aiming at one of the people on the sluice, waiting for the signal.
After a while, Lin Xi saw eight people appear on the walkway outside the sluice; this was the most sizable group seen so far and the best chance yet.
It was an opportunity not to be missed.
Gu Fan was the first to cross on a boat, standing on it with hands raised high, intentionally letting those on the sluice see him, and he even shouted, “Don’t shoot, I co in peace.”
The guards on the sluice were surprised to see a boat drifting over from the River of Survival with a person aboard; they all gathered to see while pointing their guns at the approaching Gu Fan.
“Now!” Su Hui imdiately opened fire, hitting a guard.
A cry of agony followed as the guard was shot and fell from the simple sluice, then more gunfire erupted from the woods, bullets flying, and in a re instant, five guards were dead.
The remaining three guards imdiately fled indoors, which annoyed Su Hui; only the people on the left bank had fired, while those on the right bank hadn’t stirred.
If they had also opened fire just now, those three guards would have had no chance to escape.
“Wait a minute!” Su Hui thought of sothing and imdiately picked up the walkie-talkie, “Lin Xi, quickly see what’s happened on the right bank?”
Lin Xi also felt that sothing was wrong and imdiately controlled a bird to fly to the right bank, only to find that not a single person was in sight and there were several pools of blood on the ground.
The only beings that could silently eliminate fifteen rcenaries in a short ti, without giving them a chance to shout or fire their guns, had to be vampires, and there must have been many of them.
“Everyone be careful, the vampires are coming!” Lin Xi issued a warning.
At the sa ti, General Horton ordered the boats on the River of Survival to advance at full speed.
Since they had been discovered, there was no point in hiding anymore.
It was best to quickly capture the makeshift water gate and then pass through it rapidly.
There weren’t many guards left at the makeshift water gate, and they were hiding indoors, but they could shoot safely through gun holes designed for this purpose.
Normally, it would be difficult to capture the makeshift water gate quickly, but Lin Xi deployed the Protective Barrier to block all the bullets, protecting the main force as they continued to advance.
“I’ll defend the front, watch out for your left and right sides.” Lin Xi had just finished speaking when a stone flew out of the woods and went straight through a rcenary’s head, who then fell into the river.
A voice ca from the woods, “Don’t think that just because there’s sunlight, we can’t deal with you.
We can use weapons too.”
General Horton imdiately ordered everyone to fire at the right bank, and the rcenaries quickly unleashed a barrage of wooden bullets that savagely tore through the woods, snapping branches and splintering bark.
Gu Fan shouted at once, “It’s useless, they’re hiding now.
We can’t hit them like this.
Save so bullets.”
“That’s right, you’re in the light, and we’re in the shadows.
Are you ready for what’s coming?” As the smug words ended, bullets flew out of the woods and randomly targeted the boats on the River of Survival.
The woods were too dark and the trees too thick, providing the vampire warriors with the best conditions for concealnt.
Now, only they were shooting, and the rcenaries had no idea where these vampire warriors were.
What’s worse is that the vampire warriors weren’t just shooting from the ground; they were also firing from the branches above, with much more concealed and advantageous shooting angles.
In no ti, there were constant cries of pain on the River of Survival, and a number of rcenaries were shot and fell into the river.
With vampire warriors on the right bank and guards at the makeshift water gate in front, Gu Fan and his group could only take the hits; they had no way to fight back.
“What should we do, we only have the left bank left.” Gu Fan was anxious.
If they didn’t land, they would be slowly wiped out.
But if they went ashore, wouldn’t that play right into their hands?
If Lin Xi’s Protective Barrier were to provide all-around defense, the range it protected would be very small, so she could only choose to guard the front, helping the rcenaries make it past.
“Half the people on each boat go to the left bank and the rest continue to steer the boats towards the makeshift water gate,” ordered General Horton.
The rcenaries imdiately took action, with many choosing to go ashore, unwilling to be sitting ducks on the River of Survival.
However, they didn’t know that landing would be the worst thing they could do.
On the left bank, a group of vampire warriors licked their lips, just waiting for the rcenaries to co ashore.
