Chapter 218: Chapter 212 He Can’t Do Much (4k)_2 Chapter 218: Chapter 212 He Can’t Do Much (4k)_2 Wu Mu shook hands, “Hello, Sister Yan.”
In fact, Wu Mu had t another producer of Lin Qingyue before, a woman nad Zheng Qiuxia who had been invited by Lin Qingyue to his house for a al and was also Lin Qingyue’s producer.
However, that producer had mainly been responsible for funding the films, and from the conversations during the al often touching upon Lin Qingyue’s mother, he had roughly guessed that Zheng Qiuxia must be related to Lin Qingyue’s mother’s side.
Then Sister Yan, from the array of projects she introduced herself as being a part of, many were directed by Lin Qingyue’s father, Lin Xueming.
He guessed that Yan Yongi must be connected to Lin Qingyue’s father’s side.
Tsk, is this the so-called privilege of being a ‘rich second generation’? Even the projects are helped by relationships with their parents.
Wu Mu pursed his lips, looking at Lin Qingyue.
Lin Qingyue looked at him amusingly, “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking, Mu. I didn’t rely solely on them; their investnt in my films has made quite a lot of money.”
Hmm, Director Lin, you also relied on yourself, right?
Coincidentally, so did I.
Everything I have today, Wu Mu, is all the result of my own hard work.
Wu Mu thought happily to himself.
Of course, he also knew Lin Qingyue wasn’t lying; given the scale of Lin Qingyue’s past films, the investnt was small and had won awards, so it definitely made a large profit.
Yan Yongi, sitting across from them and watching their very synchronized interaction, had a slightly unusual look in her eyes but, knowing better, she said nothing and went straight to business.
“Qingyue told your purpose, and I have looked into Yang Rongfa’s project before coming here. The entire project’s filming cycle is about three months, the first month in Beijing East Mountain Film City, and the next two months moving to Chun City, mainly filming at Chun Steel Plant in Chun City. The entire crew will consist of about 120 to 130 people and will be stationed at the Chun City Hotel…”
Yan Yongi briefed Wu Mu on the specifics of Yang Rongfa’s project.
There’s a reason she is known as professional. Her industry connections are extensive, and she has gathered more information than Wu Mu, the investor.
The information covered all aspects, from shooting tis and locations, to the composition of the crew, even which investors might be involved, who would follow the team, and who would have the final say during the shoot; Yan Yongi had a rough understanding of everything.
Wu Mu listened and nodded at Yan Yongi’s briefing.
He naturally had no objections to this candidate introduced by Lin Qingyue.
After displaying her professional capabilities, it was ti for Yan Yongi to quote her fee.
Even with the introduction by an acquaintance, it wouldn’t be reasonable to expect her to work for free.
Yan Yongi had two rates.
“If you hire just to ensure the safety of your funds, to understand where your money is going, and to follow the progress of the project without needing onsite every day, then 300,000 will do.”
“If you want to be involved throughout, deeply engaging in planning the project, then it would be 800,000.”
800,000, the figure seed substantial.
But Wu Mu understood that it was a customary fee for an experienced producer in the industry.
800,000 was even on the lower end, with so producers capable of securing resources charging a starting fee in the millions.
Spending a few hundred thousand to secure tens of millions in funds is undoubtedly a choice anyone would know to make.
Besides, he didn’t need Yan Yongi to supervise the set; that was for injecting himself into the actual production. He mainly wanted insurance for his funds, not to interfere with Yang Rongfa’s production.
So paying 300,000 was sufficient.
And this 300,000 even ca with an unexpected bonus.
After agreeing on the fee and deciding to hire Yan Yongi, Wu Mu and Lin Qingyue inevitably talked about his need for a manager.
For that matter, Lin Qingyue didn’t have any imdiate recomndations yet; after all, jumping onto Wu Mu’s unclear future vessel required careful consideration from anyone.
On the other hand, Yan Yongi, listening to their conversation, appeared contemplative.
“Do you need a manager to take care of your studio?” she asked Wumu.
Wumu nodded, curious, “Sister Yan, do you have anyone to recomnd?”
Yan Yongi indeed had soone in mind. “I have a friend who makes shorts. He’s recently been wanting to switch to behind-the-scenes work. He used to be an assistant director under Director Lin. I can ask him if he’s willing to co.”
Director Lin?
Wumu subconsciously glanced towards Lin Qingyue.
Lin Qingyue smiled. “That’s my dad.”
She also looked curiously at Yan Yongi. “Is it Brother Shi Wu? He wants to switch to behind-the-scenes? Not directing anymore?”
Yan Yongi felt helpless. “His short films for the past two years have all been a loss, he even put in a lot of his own money, so he feels he really doesn’t have the talent for directing and wants to switch careers while he still can.”
Lin Qingyue shook her head with a smile. “Short films aren’t that easy to make. They look simple and crude, but if you can’t grasp the essence, the audience still won’t buy it.”
Lin Qingyue continued, seeing the puzzled look on Wumu’s face, she explained, “He was a student of my dad’s at the Beijing Film Academy, in the directing departnt. After graduating, he was an assistant director under my dad for a few years before he started making movies on his own. But after making two low-budget films that didn’t do well, he saw short films were getting popular and invested in making them himself.”
Well, you could say losing money in film-making was all too common.
In the industry, it’s rare to find directors who haven’t lost money on a film, only so directors can bounce back after losses, while others never get another chance, or simply beco disheartened.
Those people usually switch to other careers.
Despite constantly losing money on films and appearing unreliable, Yan Yongi wasn’t suggesting him to Wumu to trick him.
Yan Yongi turned to Wumu, earnestly saying, “Although Shi Wu has always lost money on films, he knows every field inside the industry well. He has deep relationships in the industry, not only with Director Lin but also with a lot of his classmates and colleagues from the Beijing Film Academy. Hiring him as a manager would definitely be beneficial.”
Lin Qingyue agreed, “Brother Shi Wu does know a lot of people, having been in the industry for so many years. Aside from losing money on films, he’s pretty reliable and also a good person.”
From this perspective, he seed quite suitable.
Wumu thought to himself.
Being an entertainnt company manager sounds very professional, but it doesn’t really require anything too specialized.
You just need enough understanding of the industry, knowing whom to approach for different issues, where potential pitfalls are, and how to find reliable people.
And if he’s well-connected in the industry, that’s an added bonus.
Wumu didn’t hesitate. “Then Sister Yan, could you introduce to Brother Shi Wu?”
“I can. I’ll call him now to see if he can co over,” Yan Yongi nodded.
Wumu, listening to Lin Qingyue and the others’ description, felt this person was quite suitable.
However, the person they were discussing, Shi Wu, began to have doubts after receiving Yan Yongi’s call.
Manager of Wumu Studio?
That didn’t seem like a good place to be.
Anyone with a clear mind would hardly be optimistic about the developnt of Wumu Studio.
Not to ntion the lack of resources; Wumu’s character of directly exposing various companies on Weibo made everyone feel he’d have a hard ti achieving much in the industry.
Relying on Wumu’s fa to handle invitations for him to appear on shows might allow the studio to survive without worrying about shutting down.
But such a studio with no prospects of growth is fine if you’re content to just while away the days, but aiming for real business seems a bit unwise.
Shi Wu had lost money on his films, but he wasn’t at the point of just finding a place to idle around.
However, after hesitating for a while, Shi Wu eventually decided to et Wumu.
Then, upon eting Wumu, he spoke bluntly, “I’m not very optimistic about the developnt of your company, but I can work for a while at your company. You probably just need soone to help you set up the frawork of the company right now, I can take care of that for you.”
