Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Please Do a Favor Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Please Do a Favor Wu Mu, of course, didn’t let fa go to his head and pull rank.
He had indeed noticed the gathering of big nas in the circle nearby.
All were nas familiar to the ear, either veteran singers with a decade or two on stage or senior figures in the circle who had left a legacy with many classic roles on the silver screen.
But what did that have to do with him?
Now that he had the “Awakening System,” did he still need to suck up to people?
He didn’t really know them, nor was he familiar with them; greeting them would be nothing more than false pleasantries.
Wu Mu sat casually in his seat, too lazy to put on that sort of act.
As more stars from the industry arrived backstage, every one of them sharp as a tack, they all noticed the chilly attitude the big shots had towards Wu Mu. After inquiring a bit, those who had initially thought about approaching Wu Mu quickly dismissed the idea.
Sitting alone in his seat, Wu Mu seed to be isolated.
Wu Mu was quite happy to be at ease.
It didn’t last long, though; soone who either didn’t care or possibly failed to read the room approached him.
“Hello, hello, Teacher Wu Mu!” Lu Yao dragged a friend over, greeting him with a beaming face.
Her friend was a girl about her age who looked at Wu Mu with a bit more restraint, “Hello, Teacher Wu Mu.”
Despite a restrained expression, her eyes couldn’t help but shimr with awe—Wu Mu was just too handso!
Lu Yao introduced her friend to Wu Mu, “Teacher Wu Mu, this is my good friend ng Yuxi!”
The mont of ease had passed for Wu Mu, but he didn’t mind and smiled, nodding at Lu Yao’s friend ng Yuxi, “I know, the main C of Galaxy Girls.”
Galaxy Girls was a girl group from Blue Star, not as famous as Lu Yao but still well-known.
He looked at Lu Yao, then ng Yuxi, curious, “Are you guys going to dance later?”
It seed a bit out of place—the CCTV Six Seven Gala was a bit more on the serious side, and young rising stars performing high-energy dances seed to clash with the atmosphere.
Lu Yao, not picking up on Wu Mu’s hidden aning, still babbled in foolish happiness, “Yeah, I’ll be dancing with Yuxi and our group later, I’m the main C!”
ng Yuxi, however, got the ssage and explained shyly, “It’s more of a traditional style dance.”
Lu Yao was still nodding, “Yeah, yeah, a traditional blessing dance!”
After talking about her own performance, she asked curiously, “Teacher Wu Mu, why didn’t you go to the CCTV Six Seven Gala? Sister Mo Mo went.”
CCTV Six Seven Gala… He would have liked to be there, but how in the world would CCTV invite him?
Wu Mu asked with amusent, “Why didn’t you go?”
Lu Yao responded as if it were obvious, “The Beijing TV Station offers more money, and I’m more familiar with them here, so I turned down CCTV.”
Okay, fine, that’s hitting where it hurts.
While Wu Mu was chatting idly with Lu Yao and ng Yuxi, another acquaintance arrived.
It was He Jie, who ca with a young male star.
Knowing about Wu Mu’s recent “diva behavior,” He Jie thought it over but still ca over to say hello.
For so reason, the male star followed along too.
“Wu Mu, long ti no see,” He Jie smiled and waved at him.
The male star didn’t speak; he just gave Wu Mu a lukewarm nod, his eyes seemingly looking down on Wu Mu.
Wu Mu wasn’t surprised; he knew this person very well—he was Xiao Yi, his longti rival in the industry.
Before Wu Mu’s career had taken a dive, the two had always been competing for various resources, with their fans often butting heads to the point of heated argunts.
Clearly, Xiao Yi was here to gloat.
After all, his once competitor was now not doing nearly as well as him; his fa was incomparable, and his status had dropped several notches.
Even appearing on the show required “keeping him company.”
During the show later, Xiao Yi and another little fresh at from the industry nad Sun Zhichun were Wu Mu’s singing partners.
The song was written by Wu Mu, but instead of getting to perform it solo, he had to share the stage with others, which, in Xiao Yi’s view, was undoubtedly tantamount to playing second fiddle.
Wu Mu saw what he was thinking but didn’t mind at all.
Let him be happy for now, Wu Mu thought. When it’s ti to actually sing, that’s when he’ll struggle to find joy.
As Wu Mu chatted, the rehearsal for the program quickly comnced.
To Wu Mu, rehearsals were decidedly lackluster.
Although rehearsing was technically part of performing arts work, because the footage would never be aired, the points he earned were re tokens—better than nothing but not by much.
But, alas, for live, or even delayed live broadcasts like this, rehearsals were indispensable.
…
After a busy afternoon, Wu Mu, finally done with the rehearsal, planned to head back to the hotel.
But He Jie stopped him.
“Wu Mu, I have a favor to ask and was wondering if you could join for dinner later?” He Jie asked sincerely.
A favor?
Wu Mu thought it over, “Sure.”
After all, they had a fairly friendly relationship. Regardless of whether he’d agree to the favor later, having dinner was fine—he had to eat, anyway.
Wu Mu accompanied He Jie to an upscale restaurant near the TV station and, without surprise, there was indeed a matter to discuss.
There were already seven or eight people waiting at the table.
The man taking the seat of honor at the table was about thirty years old, with a presence that exuded authority.
Beside him sat a familiar face to Wu Mu, the forr top star Xiao Yi.
He Jie introduced Wu Mu to everyone there.
The young man was Geng Wei, the boss of his company.
The others were his colleagues, artists signed under the sa company.
Having heard his title of company boss, Wu Mu had a good idea why the man invited him here.
It was yet another pitch to sign him.
In recent tis, he’d had quite a few company bosses reach out to him for this very reason.
After welcoming Wu Mu to sit down, Geng Wei didn’t rush to reveal his intentions but instead hosted him with enthusiasm.
“Mr. Wu Mu, do you prefer white or red?” he offered to pour Wu Mu a drink.
Wu Mu shook his head, “I don’t drink alcohol. A Coke will do for .”
“Ah, no alcohol, that’s good.”
Once the dishes were served, and it felt like the preliminaries were out of the way, Geng Wei finally began, “Mr. Wu Mu, I’ve heard that you’re currently without a company?”
“That’s right,” Wu Mu nodded.
Geng Wei’s deanor instantly perked up, “Well, Mr. Wu Mu, you could join our company. It’s definitely the most suitable place for you.”
He pointed at Xiao Yi, “Xiao is one of ours, and so is Xiao Wang. He’s about second-tier by now, roughly as well known as you. Oh, and Cai Wanhai—you probably know him too.”
“Our company’s strength in the industry might not be the very top, but it definitively ranks among the best,” Geng Wei stated confidently.
Wu Mu was aware of his company. It was an erging power in recent years with a reputation that indeed placed it in the top tier.
But leaving aside the fact that Wu Mu had no plans to sign with any company, even if he were looking, He Jie’s company would not be an option.
Why? Well, the industry was rife with rumors regarding the company boss’s poor attitude towards artists.
