Chapter 628: Chapter 628: Demon Hunter

Chen Ke felt as if he were a tomato about to burst, his internal organs being viciously squeezed inward, his stomach and liver aching to death. Bitter gastric juices mixed with blood surged toward his throat, even though he used all his muscular strength, he couldn’t make his body move in the slightest.

Darkness was all around him, and whispers echoed constantly in his ears. When a sliver of light pierced his pupils, a piercing cold wind also blew into his face. The power binding him vanished in an instant, and he plumted downwards, crashing into a patch of black soil.

“Ptui…”

Chen Ke got up and touched his chest and abdon, everything was normal, and there were no traces of the intense pressure from before. The harsh wind roared as he looked around; he was on the middle of a black mountain.

The surrounding land was black, with nothing in sight. The moon was startlingly large in the sky, and he could clearly see the crater rings on its surface as the wind whispered past his ears.

Although Chen Ke had never been to this place before, he knew that it was the mysterious mountain little Jack had spoken of. He subconsciously reached into his pants pocket for the small stone, only to find it was gone.

“Where is this? Could this be Divine’s Dream?” Chen Ke looked down at his chest, wanting to ask the black stone in his heart, but there was no response.

Though the stone was an Old God and had its own consciousness, it didn’t seem to respond imdiately. Compared to the other deities Chen Ke had encountered, this stone was sowhat more personable.

“Damn, no response. Well, alright then.” Chen Ke sighed, patted the dust off himself, and followed the path up the mountain. If little Jack hadn’t lied, he should be able to see a castle at the top.

At that mont, a chilling flutter of wings passed overhead. Chen Ke looked up and saw a huge insect flying swiftly up and around the side of the ridge, disappearing from his line of sight. The insect was really big, dark and slippery, with a flat and rounded body, two spotty shell-like wings at the back, and its abdon wrapped in ragged cloth, as if wearing an article of clothing.

He trembled in disgust, gritting his teeth. Insects were truly revolting, especially where the abdon joined the legs—just looking at it made him want to vomit, not to ntion the way they looked when flying, enough to make even grown n scream in terror.

If that insect was also flying up the mountain, Chen Ke might have considered retreating. But looking down at the pointless expanse of black land below the cliff, he had already made a basic judgnt. This place was similar to the Great Void, the only aningful places being this mountain and the construction atop it; everywhere else was completely unnecessary to visit.

Divine’s Dream was like a nesting doll, where gods within dreams dreamt too, and gods in those gods’ dreams dread on, endlessly.

But the distinguishing feature was that the biggest, the most outer layer of dreams had the richest details. For instance, Opportunity City and the tiline of 2009, when the Foundation used a white behemoth to dream, restarting the world 999 tis, each one a reboot of the dream.

In these rebooted worlds, there were also deities. The dreams they had couldn’t possibly give rise to another complete world. After all, that wasn’t in the Foundation’s plans.

Therefore, the deeper one went, the more sparse the space and details of Divine’s Dream beca, its functionality and purpose becoming more prominent. If this mountain was the dream of a certain god, then whose dream was it?

Chen Ke steeled himself and continued forward, planning to send the insect flying with a single shot if he encountered it. He clutched the automatic rifle in his left hand, his right hand ready to draw the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun.

Speaking of the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun , ever since he discovered this Skill to in 2006, he had been using it up to now. Although he would have liked to change things up, unfortunately, he had never found another Skill to or skill stone, and also, the Crystal Gun was simply too versatile. Having invested excessive ti into it, its power was now akin to a cruise missile. If he could extend his lifespan to the upper limit of one year, perhaps the power of the Crystal Gun could reach a whole new level.

Lost in these thoughts as he went, he rounded the ridge, and an area that was slightly more open lay before him. And there, he truly saw a black castle, standing tall before him.

Silent white snowflakes danced down from the sky, blanketing the once inky soil and mountain walls with thick white garnts, and Chen Ke didn’t know when the sky had begun to snow.

A solemn stone archway stretched all the way to the castle’s main entrance, where he saw a person sitting on the stone steps, seemingly dozing off.

“Who is this?” Chen Ke gazed at the person from a distance, noting the brown trench coat, black mid-length hair full of snow, a goatee on the chin, and deep brown boots. A shotgun rested against one side of the steps.

The man seed to have been sitting there for quite so ti, his hands propped on his knees, his eyes closed in ditation. Chen Ke didn’t know whether to greet him or not. Under Spiritual Vision, the man was outlined in golden yellow, he was a practitioner.

He rembered Brother Discouraged, whom he had t in the Great Void of Fan Hede, but these two were definitely not the sa type of person.

Chen Ke pressed closely to the gate and stopped ten ters from the man. The man seed to have sensed sothing too, and abruptly grabbed his shotgun to aim it at Chen Ke, while Chen Ke simultaneously pointed his automatic rifle at him.

“ 12 hours…”

“ 12 hours…”

“ 12 hours…”

“ 12 hours…”

“ 12 hours…”

This guy’s not bad.

“Who are you?” the man asked.

“And who are you?” responded Chen Ke.

The two sized each other up, as if seeing so common trait in one another. Then, simultaneously, they slowly lowered their guns.

“You’re quite young; I thought I was one of the younger demon hunters,” the man said, resting his shotgun back on the steps.

Chen Ke also set down his automatic rifle, but he wasn’t very clear on the man’s background. Demon hunters? Could there really be such an organization in Opportunity City?

“I…” Chen Ke readied himself to go with the flow, beginning to concoct one lie after another in his mind.

“Which year do you co from, hmm?” the man asked with a friendly smile.

“Ah?” Chen Ke was baffled by the question, as if traveling through ti had beco as normal as taking a bus overnight.

“I… What about you?” Chen Ke could only respond with a question of his own.

“I’m from the year 1919. Judging by your weapon and attire, you must be from after my ti. What’s happened in the future? Have demon hunters really beco so young?” the man said.

“You haven’t told your na yet. I’m… Klein,” Chen Ke replied.

“I’m Simon, Richter Belmont, the thirty-sixth-generation demon hunter. This city was supposed to be demolished by , but I’ve encountered so issues, sothing my predecessors have never faced in the past 500 years,” Richter said.

“I’m here to find a lady nad Maria, a woman with white hair,” Chen Ke said.

“I know, this city reappears every 100 years, and each ti it does, a new City Lord appears. It’s the power of the inhuman Old Blood. Look… my badge is quivering fiercely; the corruption of this city is beyond my imagination… It wasn’t quivering just before… Wait a minute… you…” As Richter spoke, he took out a small badge hanging around his neck and shook it towards Chen Ke, the silver cross shaking violently and irregularly.

Richter, as if suddenly rembering sothing, gripped his shotgun and aid it again at Chen Ke, anxiously saying, “Damn it! Bloody hell! You couldn’t possibly be from the Blood Clan, could you?”

“Wait a minute! Friend! Hold on! It could be because of this!” Chen Ke gestured with his hand and took out a golden cup filled with the corrupt fluid from behind him.
