Chapter 599: Chapter 599: Lucina Also Has Her Fears

The next morning.

Lucina groggily opened her eyes, the wound on her side was still throbbing with pain as she frowned and crawled out of bed, the sunlight outside the window quite blinding.

“Chen Ke?”

She tried calling out, but no one responded, so she grabbed her clothes from a small stool beside her, hastily put them on, and got out of bed.

She walked down the steps barefoot, the creaky noise echoing in the quiet house, which was empty. Pushing open Diana’s bedroom door, she found the bed unoccupied, a bad feeling twirling in her mind.

She was indeed a stranger in a strange land here, 1888 was not her ho, and an unprecedented sense of nervousness gnawed at her patience like little bugs.

“Fuck… fuck…” Lucina was extrely nervous, she hurried towards the direction of the front door, the floorboards thundering underfoot.

Just as she reached for the doorknob, the door swung open, revealing Diana and Parker, coming out of the Illusion Dream Center carrying a bunch of Walmart shopping bags.

Lucina slled the aroma of fried chicken and hamburgers, saliva secreting in her mouth and coating her plump tongue. She swallowed.

“Hey! Luc! You’re up?” Diana said with a smile, sidestepping past her to lay the shopping bags on the table.

Parker smiled at Lucina, pulling a burger out of the bag and handing it to her.

“You… went shopping at Walmart?” Lucina asked, surprised.

“Chen Ke went to take care of so errands in Opportunity City, brought them back on the way.” Parker said.

“Oh… did he find the person he was looking for?” Lucina asked.

“Not yet, but let’s not talk about that for now. How long has it been since we last ate junk food?” Parker said.

Lucina looked at the burger in her hand, then set it down on the table.

“What’s wrong? Don’t want to eat? That doesn’t sound like the Lucina I know.” Diana sat at the edge of the table, shoving pieces of crispy chicken into her mouth with both hands.

“Where’s Chen Ke?” Lucina asked.

“After he opened the door for us, he went to deliver food to Jacob and them. I think he might also take the chance to discuss so issues.” Parker said.

“Jacob? Oh… never mind, I don’t know him anyway. How long will he be back?” Lucina looked at the two, her expression anxious.

“I don’t know either. You look pretty rushed, what’s wrong?” Diana asked.

“I have sothing very important to tell Chen Ke, very important!” Lucina clenched her fists, so forcefully that the pain in her abdon flared up worse, making her squint and sit down on the stool.

“You’d better eat sothing, Lucina. You’re the only normal person among us. Before, you were staying in the Illusion Dream Center for a long ti, so you could bear pain and hunger, but it’s different now.” Diana said.

“I am… fierce like a tigress! Ouch… hiss…” Lucina tried to act tough, but her body protested, and she began to groan, clutching her abdon.

“Right now, you’re like a big cat with a sprained leg… don’t talk too energetically, and don’t lift your thigh too high.” Diana said.

“Diana, aren’t you a Witch? Do you still need to eat?” Lucina said sarcastically.

“I can feel hunger, so I guess Witches need to eat too. Ah… even if I didn’t need to, I still would. Who doesn’t love crispy chicken…” Diana chuckled.

“Fuck… it’s actually crispy chicken… I thought it was a Popeyes fried chicken al…” Lucina said, disappointed.

“Popeyes was outside Walmart, Chen Ke and I ca through the toilet door, so we could only buy so food there. You should be glad Chen Ke actually had lots of union coins, or else we couldn’t have bought anything.” Parker said.

“Besides money, he lacks everything…” Lucina held her head, snatching up the burger and biting into it.

At that mont, Chen Ke entered, carrying two substantial books. Seeing Lucina, he moved a chair beside her, placed the two books on the table and slid them toward Diana, then rested his right hand on Lucina’s shoulder.

“What’s this?” Lucina curiously peered at the gilt lettering on the book covers.

“Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities, classics by Dickens,” Parker interjected quickly.

“In the morning, I heard Chen Ke was going to the Britannia Library, so I asked him to borrow a couple of books for from there… um… the kind that don’t need to be returned,” Diana said.

“You asked him to steal for you?” Lucina was sowhat angry.

“Just doing a small favor. Tell what you want, and I’ll snatch it for you,” Chen Ke said.

“Oh, how thoughtful,” Lucina chuckled and leaned against Chen Ke’s chest.

“Didn’t you have sothing you wanted to talk to him about?” Diana asked.

Chen Ke looked at Lucina, then at Diana, unsure what ga they were playing with him.

“Co here.” Lucina suddenly stood up, grabbed Chen Ke’s arm, and headed upstairs.

Chen Ke, completely confused, followed her up. As soon as they entered the room, Lucina slamd the door shut and then anxiously looked at Chen Ke with a face full of heavy thoughts.

“Lucina, you better not be thinking of doing ‘that’ right now… this room has really bad soundproofing,” Chen Ke said.

“No… it’s not that, Chen Ke. That Boloz, I think there’s sothing wrong with her,” Lucina said earnestly.

“Boloz? That woman next to Ivy? Hasn’t she been taking good care of you all?” Chen Ke smiled and sat on the edge of the bed.

Lucina took Chen Ke’s hand and sat beside him.

“She’s a pervert, Chen Ke, I don’t want her to touch again,” Lucina said.

Chen Ke saw a trace of fear in her face, but it wasn’t a fear of power; it was pure terror.

“You? Scared?” Chen Ke couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

“You’re actually laughing?” Lucina frowned.

“She’s fine, I’ve checked; she’s not a Spiritual Ability User, not a mutated individual, nor any other kind of spooky stuff. She’s just a normal person,” Chen Ke assured her.

Most peculiar things couldn’t escape Chen Ke’s eyes; information pop-ups would appear when he saw sothing strange. The slightly more powerful ones would have their nas persistently displayed below the target, like a conspicuous notation.

“No, no… that’s not what I’m talking about!” Lucina shook her head.

“What has she done to you? She only helped you treat a wound once,” Chen Ke was puzzled.

“She deliberately hurt …” Lucina looked at Chen Ke, sowhat embarrassed.

“Huh? Hurt you?” Chen Ke’s mind conjured strange images.

“She intentionally pressed on my wound and said so weird stuff… as if she really enjoyed seeing in pain. She’s definitely a pervert!” Lucina asserted seriously.

“What did she say to you?” Chen Ke asked.

“She wanted to see what I looked like inside, roughly that. What do you think she ant by ‘inside’?” Lucina said angrily.

Chen Ke grew serious upon hearing this. So jokes are not to be made lightly, and as a fellow woman, how could Boloz say sothing so explicit?

“Have you ever sternly reprimanded her? You know, this place is Thief Gang territory… it’s bound to have so rotten people,” Chen Ke said.

“I… I didn’t dare,” Lucina hung her head.

“You’re kidding … You’re not even afraid of Yasla, and you’re scared of her?” Chen Ke felt there was sothing more to this, that it wasn’t straightforward.

“I don’t know, I just lose my temper in front of her… She has a very strong presence that I find suffocating. Right now, I just want to punch her in the face,” Lucina said irritated.

“Are you sure you’re not joking with ?” Chen Ke asked again.

“I swear, Chen Ke,” Lucina nodded.

“She’s going to help you change your dressing tonight, right? I’ll hide and watch… If she really has a problem, I’ll go find Ivy,” Chen Ke said.

Hearing this, Lucina finally felt a bit more at ease; she sighed with relief, feeling as though a weight had been lifted from her heart.
