Chapter 497: Chapter 497: The Traitor
Chen Ke pinched the bridge of his nose, guessing that this was the Divine Descent Sect’s retaliation. After Lin Yaying’s death, the Divine Descent Sect traveled to the future, intending to blow Chen Ke up.
However, how did the Divine Descent Sect co to know about his relationship with Lucina? And how did they learn about the little fishery? This puzzled him.
Now, the entire world’s ti had been reversed to April. As a person who transcended ti, traversing ti and space shouldn’t have had such a major impact, but over the past few months, Chen Ke had interfered too much.
Without Chen Ke’s arrival, Si’s consortium’s operation at the West Gold Building wouldn’t have failed, the matter with Pankia would not have erged, Miles’s betrayal would not have co to an abrupt halt, and the toads in the sewers would still be retaliating against humanity in their own way.
Moreover, Li Moyang’s series of actions with the Divine Descent Sect would continue smoothly, and Xu Jing from another foundation might have to spend more ti finding a way to kill the Clan.
As a person transcending ti, Chen Ke had brought too many changes to the world, causing a huge impact; he had permanently altered the courses of many people and things; he had changed the future.
So when he reversed the flow of ti and traveled back to the past, those permanent changes would remain. The universe balanced the logic of what had and what had not happened, and in the coming months, while the outco was already determined, the process beca unknown.
“Where are you now?” Chen Ke asked eagerly.
Lin Yaying’s death did not signify the end of the assassination contract; the Divine Descent Sect would likely send soone else to take over Lin Yaying’s role, and this replacent might have already been appointed in a different tiline.
“I’m at ho… on a street in the Lower District.” Lucina gave Chen Ke her address and reminded him not to be followed.
Chen Ke grunted in acknowledgnt, hung up the phone, and imdiately headed for Lucina’s ho. He had never known that Hainerd and Lucina had property in the Lower District; perhaps that was their final hideout.
Lucina hung up the phone, and her anxious mood eased considerably, but Hainerd was still sowhat confused.
“You just hung up the call?” Diana was dissatisfied that Lucina had hung up so abruptly, as she too had urgent matters to discuss with Chen Ke.
“What else?” asked Lucina.
“You rember I also have sothing important to discuss with Chen Ke, right?” Diana said, hands on her hips.
“You know Chen Ke too? What’s going on?” Hainerd exclaid in surprise.
“Dad… when Chen Ke arrives, I’ll explain it to you. Don’t worry for now… everything is going to be alright,” Lucina soothed, holding Hainerd’s arm.
“Your father, seems like he has been reverted along with ti to three months ago. But I’m curious, why haven’t we experienced mory loss?” Diana wondered.
“Because one day we will travel through ti. I’m sure I’ll be following Chen Ke; as for you, I don’t know,” replied Lucina.
“Wha…? Ti travel?” Diana was taken aback.
“Don’t ask why, I don’t want to explain,” Lucina huffed.
Right now, she just wanted to see Chen Ke as quickly as possible. The situation was becoming complicated, and the future illusions she had once seen seed imminent. She needed to confirm the relationship between this woman and Chen Ke.
Knowing that Chen Ke was on his way, the three of them left the basent and sat in the living room waiting. Hainerd was utterly confused and could only drown his bewildernt with beer. Lucina stared at Diana, deep in thought, while Diana leaned back on the sofa to rest with her eyes closed, having been awake for over 18 hours.
“Thud, thud, thud.”
Half an hour later, soone knocked at the door. Lucina and Diana almost simultaneously stood up, and after a brief exchange of glances, Diana decided to let Lucina answer the door.
Lucina first glanced through the peephole and, confirming it was Chen Ke, opened the door.
Chen Ke stood in front of the door, about to embrace her when a slap t his face instead. The crisp reverberation could be heard throughout the living room.
Diana took a deep breath, pursed her lips, and looked towards Hainerd, who pretended not to see it and played with his phone.
“Where have you been in the past ten or so hours? Do you know what happened after you left?” Lucina demanded.
“I went to seek an answer,” Chen Ke explained.
“You’d better have found it.” Lucina hugged Chen Ke, biting his lower lip firmly.
Chen Ke also embraced Lucina, looking over her long hair only to see Diana standing behind her.
“Shit… Diana, what are you doing here too?” Chen Ke was startled, feeling as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him.
“I… I lost Wang Ailin…” Diana said dejectedly, her deanor slackening as she unabashedly displayed her vulnerability.
Chen Ke realized that during his absence, Lin Yaying’s assassins might have already gone after them. He simply hadn’t expected such a coincidence.
The four of them sat around the living room table and began exchanging information.
Hainerd’s state had reverted to what it was like in April, so he was utterly unaware of the events that occurred in the following three months. Chen Ke could only succinctly inform him of the facts, whether or not he believed them.
Diana’s assault was anticipated by Chen Ke. However, it ca so suddenly that he regretted not being there to help. Thankfully, Diana was not so easily killed. Though she was injured, she was sitting right in front of him, safe and sound.
As for Lucina’s attack and the explosion at the fishery, Chen Ke had initially thought it was either Divine Descent Sect’s revenge or Yasla’s doing, but he was wrong on both counts.
“It was Si’s consortium, because we stole their Green Holy Diamond. They wanted it back,” Lucina stated.
“The consortium knows it was us who stole it? I need to press Pihom to sell that thing as soon as possible…” Hainerd stroked his chin, slipping into his postman mode.
“So… you really were robbing a bank that day?” Diana looked at Chen Ke.
“Not exactly… alright, I was robbing a bank,” Chen Ke intended to gloss over it but decided to give it up. At this critical mont, there was no need for cover-ups.
“The Administration Bureau doesn’t handle this, so I have nothing to say about that. I just want to know who wants to kill , and find Wang Ailin—I have to,” Diana stated.
“So, Chen Ke, you said you went to find an answer, what did you find?” Lucina asked.
“I saw your future, Lucina. Have there been any Yasla freaks lurking around you recently?” Chen Ke asked her, as this was his most pressing concern.
“No… maybe I just didn’t notice,” Lucina recounted.
“Diana, there’s a mole from Yasla in the Administration Bureau. Do you know soone nad Bader?” Chen Ke inquired.
“Bader! He’s a Yasla mole? Impossible… it was Bader who gave the tip to co find you here…” Diana was taken aback.
“Hey, hey, it looks like you’ve attracted so dangerous character near my place…” Lucina cast a disdainful look towards Diana.
