Chapter 388: Chapter 388: The God in the Photo

Chen Ke followed the assassin in the white suit for a while, but this ti, when the cycle reset, Ms. Harlowin did not appear in this area.

After the ambulance carrying Ms. Harlowin’s body left the scene, the female assassin also disappeared.

With Ms. Harlowin’s death, the assassins would reset too, but the world continued to operate as usual, albeit with slight differences from the previous world.

This confird to Chen Ke that there was more than one assassin in this place.

Perhaps at each of Ms. Harlowin’s random appearances, an assassin was arranged; they did not just appear out of thin air but walked out of nearby buildings.

If this were to be compared to a ga… the respawn chanism in this world was far more logical.

Chen Ke also discovered that, whether Ms. Harlowin appeared in his vicinity or not, the woman in the white suit always showed up.

Her presence ant that Ms. Harlowin had indeed respawned…

That is to say, no matter where Ms. Harlowin respawned, all assassins would also appear.

These assassins seed to be distinctly aware of Ms. Harlowin’s location each ti she respawned, and they would move with purpose after appearing.

However, even by following the female assassin, if Ms. Harlowin respawned too far away, Chen Ke could not find her.

If he couldn’t locate her within 3 minutes, she would inevitably be killed by other assassins.

All the factors were laid out before him—the respawn chanics of the assassin and Ms. Harlowin, the layout of the entire street, the activity range and respawn area of one assassin…

The only thing not clear now was how many assassins were there?

When Chen Ke had first entered, he encountered Ms. Harlowin as she was being targeted by a sniper. If only he could locate that sniper’s position.

The most pressing threat was this sniper, as he had the broadest field of view, the most direct ans of killing, and given the restrictions of this world on Chen Ke, he wasn’t able to preemptively strike or counterattack, making it quite tricky.

Chen Ke’s only strategy was to lie in wait.

Unless he could fly, there was no way he could sweep an entire street in 3 minutes.

All he could do was stay close to this female assassin until, during one of the resets, Ms. Harlowin appeared near her and he could enact the “mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.”

After dozens of lengthy cycles, finally, Ms. Harlowin once again respawned in the area Chen Ke had been waiting.

This ti, he was prepared, his eyes vigilantly scanning the crowd, never relaxing, and in just one glance, he spotted a fleeting purple figure.

Ms. Harlowin was wearing a purple dress, her eye-catching white hair gently brushing against the breeze as she anxiously looked around the crowd, hurriedly walking towards the direction of the fountain.

The female assassin appeared just in ti, walking out from the main entrance of the church, stepping down towards Ms. Harlowin.

The two were only a little more than 100 ters apart, separated by the crowd.

Chen Ke would not let her get close to Ms. Harlowin and in this fabricated world, he didn’t need to play the assassin’s tactics, straightforwardly pulling out his gun.

He wasn’t sure if his bullets could pass through the air wall, and not wanting to waste ammunition, Chen Ke waited for the female assassin to step onto the street before he launched his attack.

Chen Ke quickly approached the female assassin, grabbed her arm tightly with his left hand, and fired his gun into her liver area at close range with his right hand, then raised the muzzle and shot her again in the heart.

The female assassin coughed up blood as Chen Ke suddenly appeared and quickly shot her twice, giving her no ti to react, only allowing her to kneel painfully in front of him.

Chen Ke then pressed the gun against her forehead and fired another shot to ensure she was dead, blood and brain matter splattering, leaving her body lying in the street, attracting strange looks from the surrounding crowd.

Holding his gun, he looked around for any other assassins while disregarding the crowd’s reaction and ran towards Ms. Harlowin.

“No… No, not again!” Ms. Harlowin felt soone running towards her from behind, turned to see a man in a suit with a gun, and in her panic, threw her high heels at Chen Ke.

“Go to hell! Felipe, you mongrel!” After throwing her high heels, Ms. Harlowin, barefoot, squeezed through the crowd towards the direction of the fountain.

Chen Ke blocked the flying high heel with his left hand and shouted, “Ms. Harlowin! Don’t run! I’m here to help you!”

But Ms. Harlowin did not listen; she ran forward frantically, her white hair streaming behind her like a fluttering ribbon.

Chen Ke grew anxious; it had been so hard to finally see her alive, and letting her run blindly could lead her to be killed by other assassins, and who knew how long he would have to wait.

He vaulted over the pedestrian railing, dodged the crowded people, and ran swiftly along the road; with Chen Ke’s speed, catching up to Ms. Harlowin wouldn’t take long.

Chen Ke jumped over the railing, grabbed Ms. Harlowin’s arm, and tried to pin her against the air wall of a shop on the side.

But unexpectedly, he pushed Ms. Harlowin into a second-hand electronics store and found himself blocked by the air wall outside.

“Fuck!?” Chen Ke was startled, pressing his hands against the air wall, trying to forcefully break through, but without success.

Harlowin fell onto the shop floor, and the curious shop owner watched her.

“Stay away from ! You dog!” Harlowin sat on the ground, her smoky eye makeup ruined by tears, with two black streaks streaming down her pale cheeks.

Although the real Harlowin was over 40 years old, every Harlowin in the photographic world looked sowhat younger.

“I’m here to help you, Ms. Harlowin,” Chen Ke said through the air wall.

Harlowin stared at Chen Ke, her eyes filled with distrust.

“Pedestrian, I told you to et at the fountain, rember? Huh? The fountain?” Chen Ke said.

When Harlowin heard the word “fountain,” her expression softened sowhat, and she thought for a mont, “Yes… the fountain… The beautiful fountain…”

“Right, co, it’s not safe here, let’s find a safer place and talk about what’s happening here,” Chen Ke reached out his hand to Harlowin.

“Are you sent by the Administration Bureau?” Harlowin asked.

“Administration Bureau…” Chen Ke was startled… She knows about the Administration Bureau?

“Are you here to take ho?” Harlowin asked.

Chen Ke didn’t know how to continue the conversation; this Harlowin’s response was too real, making him doubt his previous judgnt.

Chen Ke had entered this world through an advertisent on the wall… and then arrived at this place through two negatives.

The first Harlowin had told him that the real her had been killed, and the one in the negatives was just countless copies.

Considering the nature of caras and photos, this explanation made sense… Photos are inherently replicable.

But this Harlowin’s reaction differed from the previous agent version…

Chen Ke pulled himself out of his thoughts, decided to stop overthinking, and focused on ensuring her safety for now.

“Right, I’m from the Administration Bureau,” Chen Ke said, summoning a Blasphemous Dagger and then putting it away again.

Seeing this, Harlowin believed him, but her eyes were still filled with fear and panic.

“Don’t be afraid, Ms. Harlowin, let’s go sowhere safe first, and then you can tell … what exactly happened,” Chen Ke said.

At that mont, he sensed a very strange atmosphere around him, as the once bustling street had quieted down significantly.

He noticed that the shop owner had disappeared at so point.

“ 20 hours”

“ 20 hours”

“ 20 hours”

“ 20 hours”

“ 20 hours”

“ 20 hours”

There was a murderous aura!

Everything in the photographic world was supposed to be void; nothing should have been able to replenish his killing aura.

Chen Ke turned around, the street had beco eerily empty, and all the lights went out at that mont.

“You, where did you co from?”

At that mont, a sharp, critical voice ca from the sky.

Chen Ke looked up and saw an oversized cara lens aiming right at him; it appeared out of nowhere among the clouds and looked out of place with its surroundings.

“So what the fuck are you?” Chen Ke shouted upwards.

“I am God,” the cara said.

Its lens opened and closed, as if it were blinking, but Chen Ke saw a hint of mockery in it.
