Chapter 303: Chapter 303: The Language of the Gods
“I’m glad to et you… but forgive my bluntness, Ms. Laura… I’ve never seen such a young university teacher like you…” Chen Ke smiled.
Laura was about the sa height as Lucina, her exposed arms and shoulders very toned, and bore many small scars. She seed to be an outdoor sports enthusiast.
And she appeared to be about the sa age as Chen Ke, around 24 years old. Being a history teacher at a university at this age was no simple feat.
“I saw you boarding through the porthole, and you didn’t seem to bring much luggage?” Laura smiled.
Chen Ke touched the back of his head and said, “I had my luggage sent ahead to the hotel in Norton City.”
“Not a bad idea,” Nathan joined in from the side.
Nathan looked a bit more robust than Chen Ke, a very typical federal man. He was a head taller than Chen Ke and looked a bit mischievous by appearance.
“May I ask, what were you discussing just now?” Chen Ke asked with a smile.
A mysterious smile appeared on Laura and Nathan’s faces.
“So… Chen Ke, are you interested in the history of mankind?” Laura asked.
Chen Ke pinched his chin, thinking the topic was quite lofty for small talk.
“Actually, we were discussing a topic about ancient mythology. Have you heard of the Suru mythology?” Nathan asked.
“Sur… u?” Chen Ke was puzzled. He knew about Surian mythology, but he had never heard of Suru.
“That’s an ancient civilization that started in present-day South Arica. Of course, it exists in mythology. So far, archaeologists from around the world have not found concrete evidence to prove its existence. All the information about it cos from brief descriptions by other civilizations at different tis in human history,” said Laura.
“That sounds pretty unreliable… Maybe it’s just a popular story from ancient tis,” said Chen Ke, bewildered.
“That’s the crux of it, Chen Ke. If it’s just a story, why are the records about it from various civilizations so different? By piecing together bits and pieces of information, we now have a grasp on a systematic Divine System and have restored a small portion of prophecies through its unique cuneiform script,” Laura said with a smile.
“You an…?” Chen Ke was confused.
“Most people consider it mythology, but we believe it truly existed, and it might have been the cradle of human civilization,” Nathan explained.
“Oh… that sounds pretty badass…” Chen Ke gave a thumbs-up, wondering how it related to him.
The rise and fall of history, the cycle of conquest and subjugation, the winner writing their own history while erasing traces of other civilizations – this is why human history is so fragnted.
“The cuneiform script left by the Suru civilization ntioned a prophecy about six Holy Seals. The prophecies are fragnted and preserved in different languages and patterns by different civilizations. I think it’s very important, but our understanding of this script is limited; we can only understand a little,” Laura said as she took out a notebook and showed it to Chen Ke.
In the notebook were lines of unfamiliar text, a chaotic arrangent of horizontal and vertical marks.
“Actually, I’m not really interested in this stuff, Chen Ke, but the prophecy ntioned six Holy Seals, which seem to be related to the survival of their people. I think it’s because they lost these Holy Seals that the Suru civilization disappeared into the river of ti… If these six Holy Seals really exist, and we can find them, they might be worth a lot of money…” Nathan smiled, looking at Laura.
“You can’t asure human history with money, Nathan! It’s a treasure, and we might very well get so useful revelations from it,” Laura did not agree with Nathan’s view.
“From the sound of it… you seem to be preparing to look for them…?” Chen Ke, with his arms folded, suddenly asked.
Upon hearing this, both vigorously shook their heads and spoke in unison, “No, no… no… no.”
“Co on… when you were talking about those things just now, your eyes were practically glowing green, and besides, a Discovery Channel photographer coupled with a female university lecturer makes quite the treasure-hunting duo,” Chen Ke chuckled.
“I’ll take that as a joke, but it’s actually not a bad idea,” Nathan laughed.
“I would never travel with him, I swear,” Laura said.
“Whatever, I was just saying. Continue with the story about the six Holy Seals, please. Earlier you ntioned they were guarded by six Guardians…?” Chen Ke spread his hands.
“That’s right, this part is the story of a great deity from the Surian mythological system, known as Oton. He is an intangible god who can turn everything he touches into nothingness, but the great ancestors of Sur learned the language of god and expelled Oton from our world using a sentence composed of six symbols,” Laura said.
Chen Ke suddenly rembered sothing, but it was unclear, he always felt as though he was missing so detail, and he motioned for Laura to continue.
“Their descendants believed that the language of god should not be misused on earth, so they divided this sentence up, with the six symbols that made up the sentence each held by people who had never seen the complete phrase. These six people were known as Guardians,” Laura explained.
“And what about the people who had seen the phrases before?” Chen Ke inquired.
“Good question, my guess is that they were killed, or they killed themselves,” Nathan curled his lip and mid a slicing gesture across his neck with his finger.
“So what you’re saying is, the six symbols, are actually six Surian characters? Doesn’t that an… the Surian script is the language of god?” Chen Ke couldn’t help asking.
“Of course not, the Surian script is sothing separate; they used other symbols to write the language of god, but we have never seen them. Many archaeologists and theologians have studied the divine system of Surian mythology, speculating that the language of god might be so ancient form of Spiritual Energy use, aning those people might have been the first to grasp the use of Spiritual Energy, subsequently repelling a Spiritual Monster…” Laura said.
“You know, myths always exaggerate things, the whole thing might have just been a group of Spiritual Ability Users warding off a monster to protect their village,” Nathan laughed.
“Oh… with that said, those six Holy Seals might not be worth that much after all,” Chen Ke said, arms still folded.
“In worldly terms, what’s valuable is not the Holy Seals themselves, but the patterns or characters used to depict the Holy Seals, which constitutes a major archaeological discovery,” Nathan said.
“It sounds like all you need to do is draw six symbols at will and you can announce this archaeological discovery,” Chen Ke spread his hands.
“You’re wrong, Chen Ke, it’s not just six symbols, but also the correct arrangent and combination, and moreover, it has to have an effect! You know, it’s a language, at least mythologically speaking, the language of god. You can’t expect to scribble Spiritual Energy effects at will, can you?” Laura retorted.
“Ah, you’ve stumped there,” Chen Ke spread his hands.
“But anyway, we’ve had a pleasant chat, and I’m glad to have t you, Chen Ke…” Laura began to tuck her notebook into her pocket, when suddenly, in the middle of her sentence, she cast a puzzled look at Chen Ke and Nathan.
Chen Ke and Nathan also paused, realizing that sothing was amiss.
The boat had stopped.
