Chapter 219: Chapter 200: Fallen Deity Less Than a Dog
Amberser didn’t want to oppose a powerful deity; that would be a suicidal act, but it didn’t an he couldn’t listen to what the Lady of Mist had to offer.
What if the Lady of Mist could produce a debt note written by Aeo himself? With the affairs of deities, who could say for sure?
However, the Lady of Mist’s answer disappointed Amberser.
“I have lost my divinity and cannot offer much help, but I can teach you an illusion spell nad after .”
Amberser frowned and asked, “Can this illusion deceive deities?”
The Lady of Mist hastily replied, “How could that be possible? Even the weakest deity has a high resistance to mortals’ spells, but I guarantee it’s the most formidable illusion.”
Amberser: …
Rumors had it that this goddess of deception was a hobody, the very reclusive kind, which explained the absurd tale of a goddess with the office of deception being deceived herself and stripped of her divinity.
Her lies were more like pranks rather than the kind of cunning plots that penetrated the heart.
Now that her divinity was gone, this girl didn’t even understand the most basic social courtesies.
“Sorry, if that’s all the benefit I get, I’m not interested in opposing the Prince of Lies. The risk and reward are disproportionately small.”
Only a fool would oppose a deity for a re illusion spell.
The Lady of Mist calmly said, “Your refusal is futile; you are in too deep. The lies you have told in your life far outnumber those of others. Even if you don’t agree now, you will eventually be drawn into this chaotic struggle. You must have noticed, haven’t you? In recent years, more and more people with exceptional talents have surfaced, and reclusive powerhouses have stepped into the spotlight. The world is becoming more chaotic, and wars more frequent, right? Every deity is preparing, and soon it will be a war between Chosen and Chosen!”
Hearing this, several figures erged in Amberser’s mind.
Indeed, as the goddess had said, Amberser had seen an abnormal number of prodigies recently.
His student Harvey, who beca a Diviner Mage just from reading Amberser’s beginner notes; Paladin Allen Watson, whose self-confidence had been shattered by Amberser only to have an epiphany after heart-to-heart guidance from the Lord of the Dawn; and on the Druids’ side, there was Brandir Sunda, who had reached Legendary Rank at thirty-eight, a genius among geniuses… Even Katherine, who’d stayed indoors for centuries, was now roaming the continent with Amberser because of the upheaval at Silvermoon Tribunal.
An era of turmoil was dawning, and in places unseen by Amberser, who knew how many other talented individuals were rising.
The Lady of Mist continued, “I can sense your ambitious desire to beco a deity, but have you decided what your divinity would be? Others have deities backing them, but what about you? Your ntor, the God of Alchemy, has been severely weakened; can you really count on him?”
Amberser asked, “What are you suggesting, then?”
The Lady of Mist was quick to reply, “Deception and lies are the divine roles most suited for you. I can help you strip them from Hircine and present them to you in their entirety.”
Amberser didn’t speak but rely looked at the Lady of Mist, maintaining a smile.
This fallen deity could read his feelings through dreams and probably understood what Amberser ant.
To strip divine nature sounded good, but first, one had to kill the mighty Prince of Lies and then strip said nature from his corpse.
If Amberser were capable of defeating a deity, would he even care for such a divinity?
Nevertheless, the Lady of Mist was not wrong; Amberser indeed needed to find a direction to work towards. Achieving godhood required opportunity, but preparation was essential before opportunity might arise; without it, one couldn’t seize the chance.
The Lady of Mist clearly sensed Amberser’s rejection, but she didn’t give up. Instead, she continued, “I genuinely have no benefits to offer you at this mont, but I don’t need you to fight Hircine personally. I’m well aware that it’s nearly impossible for mortals to threaten a deity under normal circumstances. I just need you to wait for the right mont.
“When that ti cos, stand with , and help
take my revenge. Until then, I will use all my power to assist you. Aren’t you preparing to have your little pet turn into a dragon? Dreams are a form of lies too, and I can help your pet enter the realm of dreams without the need for any Druidic prayers.”
Amberser couldn’t help but say, “If you had told
earlier, I wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble, but I’ve already obtained those prayers. Your help seems rather unnecessary now.”
It ca down to it, this fallen goddess was still trying to get sothing for nothing, expecting Amberser to take on the responsibility of slaying a deity without offering any substantial benefits.
“Then what exactly do you want? Anything I have, I can give to you.”
Amberser thought for a mont, then asked, “Why can you enter my dreams?”
“It’s not that I entered your dreams, but rather the Dreamweave Barrier cloaking this forest was created using my remains. After being divested of my divinity, my broken body was found by Azus, who buried
here. I don’t know how many years it took
to regain a bit of consciousness, but when I awoke, I found those Druids settling here. They had also established a strong Magic Barrier here, of which my remains are a part.”
Fallen deities are less than dogs, incapable of even preserving their corpses.
Amberser continued to inquire, “Is Father of the Oak unaware of this?”
To use the remains of a fallen deity for a barrier seed terribly reckless—yet, it explained why the Dreamweave Barrier could not be penetrated even by the Undead, since it was mounted using a deity’s body. To be exempted from such power would only be possible with another deity’s blessing.
“No deity, other than Aeo, is omniscient and omnipotent. Sylvanas rely lent her powers to these Druids, and she might not care how they utilize it. Even if she were aware it’s my body, in Sylvanas’s eyes, I had long been dead.”
Amberser wasn’t entirely convinced by this explanation, but as it concerned the Lady of Mist’s own safety and she felt no issue with it, Amberser wasn’t going to press further. As long as he knew she could be useful, that was enough.
Amberser continued to ask, “So, you’re saying you can enter the dreams of any Druid, and you can also control whether this barrier affects certain people, right?”
The Lady of Mist replied, “I can indeed influence the barrier’s effect on a small scale, but a significant alteration would certainly be noticed by the Druids.”
“Alright, that’s enough. I promise you, if I ever get a chance to avenge you, I’ll try to do it. But don’t expect
to go looking for trouble with the Prince of Lies. I can kick a man when he’s down, but don’t expect
to lead the charge for you. If you can agree to that, then we’re partners.”
“Absolutely, no problem at all!” The Lady of Mist agreed eagerly.
“Now about that illusion spell you ntioned earlier, why don’t you teach it to ?” Amberser said with a smile.
The Lady of Mist suddenly felt a bit strange. It seed as if Amberser had promised her sothing, yet at the sa ti, he hadn’t promised anything at all, and still, she was the one giving everything up. Was this what it felt like to be in need of help? She had been a Deity for so long that she had forgotten what it was like to ask others for assistance.
But the Lady of Mist had no other choice. To find a liar with such exceptional talent as Amberser in the world was indeed not easy. Even when she was still a Deity, none of her followers could compare to Amberser. Since Amberser had appeared here, it must be fate’s arrangent.
The Lady of Mist was out of options; even if she got tricked, she had to see it through to the end.
Not knowing how much ti had passed, Amberser woke up from his sleep.
Looking out the window, the night was still so dark, and it seed like he had only lain down for about fifteen minutes. But in the dream, ti flowed differently. He felt as though he had spent several days there, and that lengthy period was enough for him to learn the illusion spell taught by the Lady of Mist—Laila’s True Illusion Realm.
Amberser began to chant the incantation slowly. A faint magical glow appeared and then quickly dissipated.
Then, another Monger Greyriver appeared beside Amberser. This doppelganger looked just like the real one, was able to move, and could even engage in simple conversations. If soone reached out to touch it, they would feel the warmth and elasticity, just like a real person.
As for the real Amberser, he beca completely invisible, unseen by anyone.
After all, it was a spell created by a Deity, and its effects were incomparable to ordinary illusions.
Combined with Amberser’s spell-casting ability, this illusionary effect might even fool the Holy Light Barrier of the Laine Empire.
Just this illusion spell alone was a huge gain, not to ntion that the Dreamweave Barrier of the Erald Dream Forest had beco his backyard.
As for slaying gods, that could wait for later. He wasn’t going to storm Hircine’s Divine Realm, but if that Deity got into a fight with the Lord of the Dawn and got smashed down to the mortal realm, he wouldn’t mind picking up the pieces.
As for whether they would fight… who knows the conflicts between Deities?
Amberser pushed open the door and walked outside.
The turmoil in the Erald Dream Forest seed far from over. In the distance, dragon roars and the sounds of various spells being cast could still be heard.
“What has Katherine done? The commotion is a bit too much,” Amberser mused curiously and simply flew towards the source of the chaos.
Monts later, Amberser saw two Giant Dragons in the sky tearing at each other.
A Green Dragon and a Silver Dragon were engaging in the most primitive and savage battle using their claws and teeth.
Amberser quietly headed towards Katherine’s Treehouse Castle and arrived just in ti to see Katherine standing on the balcony, anxiously watching the battle of the two dragons.
Amberser landed beside Katherine and dispelled his invisibility.
The sudden appearance of Amberser startled Katherine, and she almost drew the dagger from her waist to stab him.
Amberser quickly said, “Calm down! It’s !”
Katherine exclaid, “You?! How is that possible?!”
Even at Legendary Rank, where the ability to detect invisibility was quite common, mages’ invisibility spells were not invincible. Katherine carried Magic Equipnt with her that could unveil invisibility. But her equipnt had been completely ineffective, which ant Amberser’s invisibility spell was incredibly potent.
Had he been holding back before, or had he beco even more powerful in just a few days?
Naturally, Amberser did not answer her question and instead asked Katherine, “What’s with the two dragons in the sky? You’ve really stirred up quite the storm.”
Katherine replied awkwardly, “Actually, this has nothing to do with . Those two up there are Brandir Sunda and his father.”
Amberser said in surprise, “What? The father and son are fighting? Don’t tell
his father has fallen for you too and wants to marry you, making you Brandir’s stepmother.”
Katherine glared at Amberser angrily before saying, “What are you thinking? It’s Brandir Sunda who suddenly ca to
saying he had a change of heart and wanted to join the Silvermoon Tribunal to serve the Elf Tribe. Of course, I couldn’t agree to that. Who knew his father would arrive, and after a few words, they started fighting.”
Amberser: …
This love-stricken fellow really wants to marry in, huh?
