Chapter 173: Chapter 160: Stirring Up Internal Strife

Amberser sat upon the Golden Throne, suspended high above the desert.

The brilliant golden light below had no effect on him, and he could clearly see the battle between the Jackalwolf People and the Paladins.

Thirty Jackalwolf People, big and small, all ferocious by nature, but under the attack of the troops led by two Paladins, they were slaughtered like cutting through vegetables, almost helpless to resist.

Katherine, wearing sunglasses, floated beside Amberser and asked curiously, “What’s the point in controlling these Jackalwolf People if they are taken out before they even approach the city walls?”

They were a very weak group of Jackalwolf People, a single spell that controls monsters could completely dominate their leader, and then the whole group would attack Sandshadow City.

But the question is, what use could such weak creatures be to Sandshadow City?

“Don’t worry, these Jackalwolf People naturally can’t affect Sandshadow City; I’m just testing their reactions,” Amberser replied.

“The Jackalwolf People didn’t last two minutes; what did you test out?” Katherine asked, puzzled.

“Look at the city gates; they started closing before these Paladins went into battle. It’s as if they rushed out just before the last mont. But to deal with these Jackalwolf People, is closing the gates necessary?” Amberser asked.

“Perhaps the person in charge of the garrison is just cautious?” guessed Katherine.

“There’s so truth to that, but if they’re cautious, why would they rashly send out troops for a frontal engagent with these Jackalwolf People? Wouldn’t it be safer to shoot arrows from atop the city walls once the Jackalwolf People got close? How could soone be both cautious and aggressive?”

“Then why is that?”

“How would I know? That old man didn’t give

any intelligence; I have to probe slowly, right?”

Amberser was also helpless. The Silvermoon Knight had told Amberser nothing but to attack Sandshadow City, claiming to simulate a foreign invasion completely, which ant no intelligence was provided, and Amberser had to leave the city and invade from outside.

Of course, the Silvermoon Knight also swore an oath to the Holy Light that he would not give any hints to the Sandshadow City garrison, ensuring it was a fair siege battle.

But Amberser didn’t intend to launch a direct undead siege. Such a forceful attack would be hard to control casualties, making it difficult to earn a hefty sum from the Laine Empire.

Amberser’s goal was to avoid any deaths, to capture everyone alive, and then to sell them to Laine for a substantial profit.

To achieve this goal, it was necessary to first understand the strengths and weaknesses of Sandshadow City.

“No need to rush, just be patient. I left sothing on those Jackalwolf People,” Amberser advised.

With a flick of his finger, Amberser drew a Magic Array, and the sounds of battle below suddenly beca clear to both of them.

The Jackalwolf People were quickly taken down by the Paladins, leaving only their low and weak howls. The Laine People made sure to finish off these vigorously resilient Jackalwolf People, verifying the enemies were truly dead, and swiftly ended the battle.

One of the leading Paladins said to his companion, “They were just Jackalwolf People after all. Allen Watson is far too timid, afraid to face the enemy head-on. Being captured before has really taken a toll on him.”

Another Paladin laughed and said, “Haha, the pampered young master’s first real experience and he t that terrifying Legendary Lich, and even caused the Conviction Knight Order heavy losses. That’s likely to haunt him for life. No wonder the general put him in charge of this remote little town. The man’s will is like a broken sword, hardly reliable for anything significant.”

“You can’t entirely bla him though, have you not heard? Under that Lich’s hands, he was tortured so badly that both his body and spirit were utterly shattered. That he can still stand here is already remarkable.”

“Ah? Really? Where did you hear that from?”

“It was a submission that got rejected, originally for the supplent to “Legendary Magic Curse”, but it was turned down by our Supre Judge Sir. I have a friend in the editorial departnt; he told

it was about the torture Allen endured while captive, written by another prisoner who was there with him. The description was… sigh, truly cruel. I felt so much sympathy for him when I read it. I wonder what the Supre Judge Sir felt seeing his own son go through such torture?”

“Is that true? Let

read it when we get back. But if Allen was tortured so horrifically, why would the Supre Judge Sir withdraw the bounty on that Lich?”

“That shows the magnanimity of the Supre Judge Sir. Whether we like to admit it or not, that Lich ultimately saved the lives of millions of humans. Such a deed naturally deserves a reward. Even though the Supre Judge Sir had personal grievances against him, he did not let those feelings interfere with doctrine.”

“That’s truly admirable; I might not be able to do the sa. Sigh, this young Allen really doesn’t deserve to be the son of the Supre Judge Sir.”

Hearing this gossip, Katherine exclaid in surprise, “Did you really do those terrible things to that Paladin nad Allen?”

Amberser was sowhat embarrassed.

That submission was indeed written by Harvey at Amberser’s request, but the content was entirely fabricated, rely to force the editor to pay a ransom. Who knew the Laine People would be so ruthless as to not care for their own son, turning that submission into his “indictnt.”

All Amberser could do was explain, “The torture was fake. I was too busy at the ti; I had no ti to tornt this Paladin. I just had soone write a letter to his father to try and get so ransom, but it failed.”

Katherine looked at Amberser skeptically.

Amberser, unconcerned, retorted, “Whether you believe it or not doesn’t matter. I am a Lich; isn’t tornting a Paladin a very normal thing for

to do? The focus now is that Allen Watson has beco the Garrison Commander of Sandshadow City, and there’s friction between him and his subordinates, which we can exploit well.”

“How do you plan to do it?” Katherine asked curiously.

“It’s quite simple; just make their rifts bigger. The recomndation letter from the old Silvermoon only saved us a couple of days. I really don’t want to waste too much ti here.”

Amberser no longer hid his figure and descended from the sky directly, landing on the battlefield.

The dark magic power he had been containing was released, transforming into an Aura of Fear effect that covered hundreds of ters around him.

The ordinary Laine soldiers were scared witless, their legs giving out, and so even fainted on the spot, but the two Paladins reacted extrely fast. They imdiately activated their Aura of Courage and Vigor Aura, countering much of Amberser’s imposing pressure.

But this was of little significance; Amberser was no longer the subpar Legendary figure he used to be. Those two Paladins were completely no match for him.

Amberser simply used the Human Paralysis Spell, and like statues, the two Paladins were thoroughly suppressed by him.

Even though they were wearing full magic equipnt with various magic resistance effects, none of it was of any use, as if they were standing there naked.

This was the power of the Golden Throne. The enhanced spells were simply impossible to resist through ordinary ans.

Once a Mage’s spells are guaranteed to hit, he truly becos a formidable spellcaster.

To deal with these Paladins, he no longer needed to arrange assassinations like he had with Masstar; he could simply go on a rampage like the Headless Knight Gareth, crushing everyone below the Legendary level without resistance.

Had Sandshadow City not already had a complete city defense system, Amberser would have been ready to enter the city and go on a rampage himself, perhaps that would resolve the issues even faster.

“Go back and tell Allen Watson that his old friend has co to reminisce with him. Tell him to co out of the city to et

alone; otherwise, get ready to collect their bodies.”

Amberser waved his hand to raise a whirlwind, sweeping up all the Laine People before him and then teleporting them into his personal space.

Only one Paladin was left on the battlefield.

Amberser smirked, then vanished from sight.

As Amberser left, the paralysis spell on the Paladin dissipated, but as he surveyed the empty desert, he couldn’t find a trace of Amberser.

The sudden ergence of a formidable enemy left him in shock. After searching fruitlessly, the Paladin could only turn and run towards Sandshadow City.

Amberser returned to the sky and said to Katherine, “That should do it. Once this Paladin reaches the city, he will likely relay my ssage accurately. Allen Watson’s reputation isn’t strong enough; others are already disinclined to follow him. Now that I’ve claid to be seeking him out for trouble, telling him to co pay a ransom to exchange for people, it won’t be long before Sandshadow City falls into chaos.”

Katherine said with confusion, “Is that enough to stir up their relationships? Are the people of the Laine Empire that easy to manipulate?”

Amberser laughed and told Katherine, “Of course, it’s not that simple. Paladins undergo strict training and have exceptionally firm willpower. It’s not easy to make them lose their cool. So, I need to add fuel to the fire.”

“Add fuel to the fire? Are you planning another surprise attack?” asked Katherine with great curiosity.

As they spent more ti together, Katherine grew more and more admiring of Amberser. This Lich was really skilled at manipulating people’s hearts, and she felt she had learned a lot from him.

“Capturing people in a sneak attack is aningless; it only strengthens their united resolve against a common enemy. What I want is for them to turn on each other, which ans they can’t be allowed to calm down. Katherine, do you know when n are the least calm?” Amberser inquired.

Katherine shook her head; she, a hobody, had no insights into such matters.

“It’s quite straightforward: n are the least rational when they think with their lower body.”

“Lower body?” Katherine pondered for a mont, then her face turned bright red. What nonsense was this perverted Lich talking about?! Is this even a topic for discussion?!

But Amberser had no intention of being discreet, and he spoke profoundly to Katherine, “You are that fire; you will burn their reason to ashes, and then they will fall into my trap.”

“Don’t even think about it! I will not help you with such things. Those who play with feelings will go to Hell!”

Katherine firmly refused, her tone full of righteousness. She was there to work, but had never considered selling her looks; this was utterly unacceptable to Katherine.

Amberser replied with surprise, “Play with what feelings? Do you think I’m asking you to throw seductive glances at these Paladins?”

“Otherwise, what is it?” Katherine asked.

Amberser spoke with a hint of frustration, “When they are in turmoil, arguing incessantly, tell them you’re the Legendary Ranger, that you have been pursuing

for a long ti, and you hope to get their help. Encourage these Paladins to find the courage to charge at .

“Don’t always think of yourself as just a pretty face; your charm is irresistible even to the undead; it has long surpassed such petty concerns of male and female instincts. Katherine, you’ve always been wasting your talent. If your sights are set far enough, you could even unify this continent.”

Katherine’s big eyes filled with doubt.

Unify… the continent?
