Chapter 164: Chapter 151 But a Lie Can (Added for Alliance Leader)

Prophecies cannot be changed, but if a prophecy is false, then there might be a chance to alter it.

Just like what happened with Alchemy City in the past, they fabricated a prophecy that led everyone to believe there was a secret to becoming a deity in the sewers, attracting many adventurers to their deaths and becoming nourishnt for soone to ascend to godhood.

In the end, Amberser broke the fake prophecy and gained the true future.

Since the prophecy made by Alchemy City was a fabrication, it naturally wouldn’t have destiny’s unchangeable trait; theoretically, if the future Harvey saw was one soone else had fabricated, then it was possible for him to survive.

Katherine understood this ti but couldn’t help asking, “How can this be proven, though? What if no one has fabricated anything at all?”

Who would fra a diviner mage they didn’t know, not to ntion without knowing when he might forecast the future?

Amberser interlaced his fingers and placed them under his chin, pondering deeply, “The person who could have fabricated this prophecy can only be ; this is the only way to save him.”

“I’m getting lost again,” Katherine complained.

She used to think she was quite smart, being a genius who had advanced twice in the Legendary rank and her magic teachers had said she was the smartest student they had ever taught.

But after eting Amberser, she realized this lich’s mind worked differently from anyone she had ever t.

The magical addiction that had left the elves helpless was cured by him in just a few days, and he effortlessly unraveled and controlled the Elf Tribe’s Wheel of Fate Magic Circle, against which the elders were powerless.

Such knowledge related to destiny was so profound; she knew every word, but when strung together, they beca incomprehensible. Yet this lich was researching how to change the fate of a person destined to die.

Could she be witnessing history? Actually seeing a fixed fate being altered?

Katherine began to feel excited. Indeed, staying at ho wouldn’t expand one’s knowledge. Following this Mr. Lich on his adventures was a wise choice.

Amberser, however, did not share much of her excitent and said to Katherine like he was lanting, “Do you know what the saddest thing is for a diviner mage? It’s foreseeing their own death, knowing this future is unchangeable, and waiting for death is a very uncomfortable feeling; it drives most people insane.”

“So, I have always been pondering one question: Are prophecies really unchangeable? Is destiny truly so rciless? I once thought about using a prophecy to counter a prophecy. Especially with the power of Destiny Weaving, could it override a prophecy that has already been revealed?

“I’ve done tests. I predicted the death of a mouse, then tried to write a different future with Destiny Weaving. I failed; the power of Destiny Weaving couldn’t take effect.

“To observe destiny is to kill the possibilities of fate, narrowing it down to one single result that must be unchangeable, whether seen by others or by yourself. There have never been two contradictory prophecies, unless one of them is false.”

Katherine listened carefully and couldn’t help asking again, “Then how can one prove a prophecy is false?”

Amberser smiled and said, “Quite simple, the person who fabricates knows the truth of the prophecy. If the prophecy Harvey saw was a false prophecy concocted by , wouldn’t that prove the prophecy is fake?”

“But, you only just heard about this, right? How could you possibly…” Katherine seed to realize sothing and said in surprise, “You plan to go back in ti to fabricate this false prophecy for him, completing this logical loop of fate?”

Amberser nodded and replied, “That’s right, that’s roughly the principle. It’s the only way to save Harvey without breaking the rules.”

Katherine’s eyes widened in astonishnt at Amberser’s audacity.

Going back in ti was not sothing spells could accomplish; it required borrowing power from a deity.

But since he ntioned it, he must have already thought of a way.

“If you succeed, wouldn’t you completely avoid the drawbacks of prophecy? Encounter any problem, just go back in ti to alter your own prophecy,” Katherine asked excitedly.

If one could continuously correct destiny, what difference would there be from a deity?

Amberser gave a wry smile and said, “Impossible. By the ti I thought of this thod, I could no longer be saved by it.

“The Goddess of Fate is a very idealistic deity. The most fundantal law of destiny is that once known, it cannot be altered.

“All the powers of fate a diviner mage possesses ultimately cannot change their own destiny. This is the foundational rule of the School of Prophecy, one that is impossible to change. Acceptance of fate is the source of the power of destiny; coveting the change of fate, all your powers will beco ineffective.

“If I try to go back in ti to influence my own prophecies, there can only be two outcos. One, no matter how much I try, so accident will occur during the process of going back, leading to failure. Two, once I go back, all the powers of destiny will vanish, leaving

unable to fabricate any prophecy at all.

“”

“You know, once you’re aware, you can’t change it; once you see it, the future’s possibilities will collapse into a single outco. That’s an absolute rule.”

“That’s why I never told Harvey the thod. If he doesn’t know about it, there’s still a chance his future can change. Once he hears of it or thinks of it himself, that possibility will be erased from his future too. I want to go back to the past to save him, but an endless array of accidents would thwart .”

Katherine was imnsely shocked and pressed on, “So you an, you can’t even share this thod with other Diviner Mages, because all of those who hear of it lose the chance to be saved?”

Amberser nodded and said, “Yes, the mont I thought of this thod, all my futures shielded the possibility of being saved in this way. I considered publishing a paper on it, but eventually I gave up. At least it leaves so hope for future generations. If I told everyone about this thod prematurely, I’d turn the only solution into no solution at all.”

Katherine never expected Amberser to have such a sensitive side and couldn’t help but say, “Could it be that a Diviner Mage has thought of this thod before, and it has not been passed on because he thought the sa as you? There must always be geniuses who think of ways to save others, and just happen to co across soone they want to save. It really is a theatrical story; it would beco a classic if written into a poem.”

Katherine had already conjured up many tragic tales that made one clench their fists in regret. The history of the School of Prophecy was so ancient that, with a bit of digging, you could probably create many tiless classics.

Amberser laughed and said, “I’m not as emotional as you. I simply refuse to harm others for no benefit to myself. If they set the royalties for the School of Prophecy higher, maybe I would have submitted it. You have no idea, because the School of Prophecy is so unpopular, “Legendary Spells” sets the lowest price for papers of this type. Royalties are so low they wouldn’t even fill a dog.”

Katherine wasn’t entirely convinced, feeling that Amberser, this Lich, could sotis be quite humble.

“So, are you confident about saving soone now?” Katherine asked.

Amberser explained, “Theory is theory, but practice is practice. I haven’t actually tried it. There are too many uncertainties. Another key issue is, if I want to reverse ti to go back to the past, what kind of price must I pay? Is it really worth it for that kid Harvey?”

This was no joke. No matter how much he admired Harvey’s talent, Amberser had to assess his own capabilities.

Returning to the past was within the realm of a Deity’s power; he’d never heard of any Legendary being able to do so.

And to gain the assistance of a Deity, the price would certainly be enormous. If the cost was too high, Amberser would truly give up. It would just be too cruel for the Goddess of Fate to give no chance at all.

“Going back to the past… I’ve heard of that. During the Era of the Magic Dragon, the Dragon Race possessed a Divine Artifact that reversed ti, which is why they were able to rule the world continuously. Later on, the Founding Emperor of the Laine Empire managed to steal this artifact, which is how they successfully overthrew the Magic Dragon’s rule.”

The history Katherine spoke of was also known to Amberser, but he said, “Isn’t that just apocryphal? I’ve read many books that ntion this artifact. So say it can reverse ti, so say it can revive indefinitely, while others claim it can kill any Giant Dragon instantly… but they all seem far-fetched with no real evidence.”

When Amberser had traveled here, Laine had already been established as a nation for quite so ti, and many records from the Era of the Magic Dragon were rely “rumors” by then. Perhaps only the Laine Empire had the most detailed records.

Yet Katherine confidently said, “What I’m talking about isn’t made-up apocrypha. You might not know, the last king of the Elf Tribe was friends with Arthur Laine. They spent their youth together as adventuring companions who shared life and death. When it cos to information about the Founding Emperor, our Elf Tribe has quite the say.”

“Really?!” exclaid Amberser in surprise.

Katherine said proudly, “Of course it’s true. Our Elf Tribe lives long lives. A long-lived race surely has more accurate historical records than shorter-lived races.”

Amberser hadn’t expected to encounter a historical figure. Although the Elf Tribe was known for longevity, even if the old king had a tendency to boast, he was still soone who had lived from that era to now, lending so credibility to his words.

“Does he know where this artifact is?” Amberser asked.

“I can ask for you, but I’m not sure if he can provide any clues. What will you do if it doesn’t work out?”

Katherine found the story of reversing ti to save soone very intriguing, and she hoped to see a perfect ending. Thus, she looked at Amberser with eyes full of anticipation.

Amberser didn’t understand why the young woman was so excited; it was not a Diviner Mage’s endeavor, and whether it succeeded or not had nothing to do with her. However, under Katherine’s expectant gaze, Amberser still explained, “If I can’t find this artifact, I’ll just try my luck with the Deities. Luckily, I know quite a few Deities.”

“Deities? Are you thinking of seeking help from the God of the Liches? I’ve heard that this Deity isn’t keen on helping others,” Katherine asked.

Amberser objected, saying, “What a stereotype. Just because I’m a Lich doesn’t an I must believe in the God of the Liches, right?”

“Then which Deity do you want to turn to? Most Deities wouldn’t bother with soone who isn’t a follower. You, a Lich not seeking the God of the Liches, you’re not planning to ask the Lord of the Dawn for help, are you? Don’t expect

to call upon the Elven Gods for help. I’m a criminal of the Elf Tribe now; it’s already the best outco if I’m not punished,” Katherine said.

Katherine wasn’t declining; she genuinely could not assist. Despite being a favorite of the Elven Gods, her mistake this ti was too grave, and she hadn’t heard the voices of the Gods in a long ti.

However, Amberser replied, “I never planned to ask you to contact the Elven Gods for help. I forgot to tell you, the God of Alchemy is my teacher.”

Katherine was stunned for a mont, then exclaid, “What did you just say?!”
