The next day, Beichuan Si first went to visit Qianye Yuki with Beichuan Hui Li.
Even though today wasn’t one of the bi-daily treatnt days, a day had passed and the death qi had already fused into over half of Qianye Yuki’s legs, making it possible to use the death qi for treatnt again.
While treating her, Beichuan Si inford Qianye Yuki about the possibility of him being out for a few days and shared the sa with Beichuan Hui Li, who was painting at the ti.
"Senior Beichuan, are you going to deal with the ’Four-person Hide and Seek’ ga?" Qianye Yuki, who was barely able to stand, asked.
"More or less," Beichuan Si replied as he withdrew his hand and continued, "So I probably won’t have ti to continue treating Miss Ying for the next few days."
Upon hearing this, Qianye Yuki just smiled and said understandingly, "I should be the one thanking Senior Beichuan for treating . Since you have things to do, of course I have no reason to stop you."
Before Beichuan Si could reply, Beichuan Hui Li, who was still painting, moved her ears slightly, and exclaid with surprise,
"Brother Temple, you’re heading out again?"
Beichuan Si had been away twice last month, once to Yashan City and once to Ibaraki Prefecture, and now he was about to leave again.
This was a little too frequent.
Even though Iwate Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture weren’t that far away... each ti Beichuan Si left, it was for a long duration.
As these thoughts grumbled in Beichuan Hui Li’s mind, Beichuan Si gave another instruction,
"I have so matters to deal with. While I am away, you should be obedient and not cause Miss Ying too much worry."
"...I understand."
Feeling the gaze of the other person, Beichuan Hui Li shrank her neck a little.
After briefly explaining his plans, Beichuan Si said farewell to the Qianye sisters.
Beichuan Si originally planned to finish reading "The Lost Mikawa" before visiting Seto Cheng, but with Shen Gu Mirai’s help, this step was skipped.
Beichuan Si had already notified Tsukishima Sen last night, and now all he needed to do was go to Seto Cheng’s house.
...
Seto Cheng lived in a villa district in Chiyoda District; it didn’t take long to travel from Qianye’s house to his.
About fifteen minutes later, Beichuan Si stopped in front of a residence.
The entire mansion was built in a Japanese style, with a slanted roof, white walls contrasted by black short pillars, and judging by the layout, there seed to be a side yard as well.
The owner seed to have a strong sense of style, with bamboo hedges and blue stone slabs, and a small plot of cultivated land next to it, marked by small triangular fences within the ridges.
Beichuan Si stopped, took out his cellphone, and dialed the number left by Tsukishima Sen for Seto Cheng.
The call was answered after just one ring, as if the person had been waiting by the phone.
A deep voice from a middle-aged man ca from the other side:
"Hello? Who’s this?"
"I am Beichuan Si. Teacher Tsukishima referred to visit Teacher Seto. I am now downstairs."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line, and after a long pause, the voice said,
"Co in."
The spacious door opened in response, releasing a cool breeze.
Beichuan Si looked up and saw a middle-aged man standing by the door.
The man wore black rimd glasses, was tall and slender with pale skin, looking almost like a corpse.
He looked at Beichuan Si, put down his phone, and said indifferently, "Co in."
With that, he turned and entered the room.
Beichuan Si watched the man’s retreating back thoughtfully, a hint of intrigue crossing his mind.
The man had obviously been watching him from the peephole for a while. Was this so sort of unusual habit of the famous author?
But such a paranoid display... could that really be considered a habit?
Beichuan Si pondered this for a mont but didn’t voice his thoughts. He adjusted his backpack on his shoulder and walked into the house.
"I am Seto Cheng."
The middle-aged man extended his hand, indicating a handshake with Beichuan Si, but his tone was so stiff it almost felt deliberately provocative.
"Beichuan Si."
Beichuan Si reached out and shook his hand, taking the opportunity to observe the man’s complexion up close.
Seto Cheng was elegantly middle-aged, but his face was sallow, as if he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep for many days. His complexion was pale and bluish, with heavy dark circles around his eyes.
The mont Beichuan Si’s palm touched the other man’s, he felt as if he were holding an ice block, with warmth fleeing instantly.
"Mr. Beichuan, you can walk around the living room and take a look. I’m still writing my novel. I will co back to entertain you later," said Seto Cheng in a harsh tone, yawning as he spoke.
With that, Seto Cheng turned and went upstairs back to his study, leaving Beichuan Si standing alone at the entrance.
It seed that this Seto Cheng was not quite welcoming him at the mont.
But —
Beichuan Si’s eyes flickered.
During the handshake, Beichuan Si had clearly seen purplish bruises on the other man’s wrist that resembled the fingers of a child.
Thus, it ant that the renowned author, Seto Cheng, was cursed as well.
And Seto Cheng’s harrowed appearance was probably because he, too, often saw the spirits of children.
Being haunted by resentful spirits naturally led to poor sleep quality, leading to symptoms of anger and irritation like those of Kobayashi Seijiro.
Taking this into account, it seed that Seto Cheng’s willingness to host him was probably out of respect for Tsukishima Sen.
Understanding this, Beichuan Si didn’t mind and began to look around.
The house was a more modern Japanese-style mansion, with wooden floors in the corridors and various contemporary paintings hung above the corridors.
