95: Chapter 87: The Animal That Ran Back by Itself 95: Chapter 87: The Animal That Ran Back by Itself On top of Stone Mountain, the Divine Vine seed to have rejuvenated, even its once rough bark now smoother, and its vines as translucent as jade carvings.
Below Stone Mountain, the Vine Tribe slowly rebuilt after the destruction.
Bamboo and wooden huts quickly rose from the ground, and the altar was repaired, with Chi Shao carving the Totem Pattern on it once more.
New raw materials for the Totem Pole were found and, after drying, would be carved with many Totem Patterns and erected around the altar.
Jiang Xuan crafted three more exquisite and larger three-legged round cauldrons from clay, which after drying would be fired and placed on the altar.
Even the Hydraulic dicine Grinding Device was recreated by Jiang Xuan for Chi Shao, and with the experience from the first creation, this ti it went more smoothly and perfectly.
Thanks to the efforts of the Vine Tribe people, everything was slowly recovering, becoming even better than before.
“Leader, leader, they’ve returned!”
Jiang Xuan, who was roofing a new bamboo shack, was greeted by an excited Da Jiao running over, shouting as he ran.
“What has returned?”
Jiang Xuan, holding a large piece of tree bark, placed it on the roof, smoothing it out before looking at Da Jiao.
“Our dosticated Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants have returned!”
Da Jiao finally completed his sentence, his face full of a joyful smile.
“This is such a good thing?”
Jiang Xuan was very surprised by this.
Back then, to escape the Mosquito Tribe’s attack, Da Jiao didn’t want those dosticated animals to fall into their hands, so he released them all.
When they returned, the cave was empty, even the large insects were few remaining.
No one expected that these Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants, which hadn’t been fully dosticated, would co back!
“It’s true, leader, I can take you to see.”
Da Jiao was obviously overly excited and was eager to show Jiang Xuan this miraculous event.
“Okay, I’ll go after I finish roofing with these pieces of bark.”
Jiang Xuan laid down large pieces of tree bark on the roof, securing them with bamboo and tying the ends with vines to hold the bark in place.
After he finished, he climbed down from the roof and followed Da Jiao to the area where the animals were dosticated.
When Jiang Xuan arrived in front of the row of caves, he noticed two doors of the cave fences had been repaired, and a few Unihorn Birds along with several Seven-Colored Pheasants were respectively penned inside.
“Leader, look, these Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants returned by themselves.
I dug so bugs to lure them into the caves and locked them up again.”
Jiang Xuan looked at the creatures inside the caves and asked Da Jiao, “When did they co back?”
Da Jiao replied, “Around noon.”
Jiang Xuan questioned, “That’s odd, if they intended to co back, why didn’t they return earlier?
Why all of them suddenly at this ti?”
“This…I couldn’t figure it out either.”
Da Jiao scratched his head, finding it quite puzzling.
Jiang Xuan asked again, “Did you do sothing special when they returned?”
Da Jiao recalled and looked towards a stick and a large bamboo tube on the ground, saying, “I rember now.”
“At that ti, I was sitting here missing those dosticated animals, so I hugged the large bamboo tube we used for feeding and knocked it with a stick for a while.”
Jiang Xuan inquired, “Did you use to knock this bamboo tube every ti you fed them?”
Da Jiao nodded in surprise, saying, “Yes, that’s right.”
Jiang Xuan smiled, “So that’s how it is.”
“Leader, could it be they flew back because I knocked the bamboo tube?”
Jiang Xuan nodded, saying, “That’s right, it’s because you knocked the bamboo tube.”
“These Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants have lived in our tribe for quite so ti, getting used to being fed, and associating the sound of the bamboo tube knocking with feeding signals.”
“After you released them, they found it difficult to comfortably feed in the jungle as they did when fed by others.”
“Thus, they didn’t stray far, hoping to be fed again without the hassle of seeking their own food.”
“So when you knocked the bamboo tube, these Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants ca running back, wanting to be fed again.”
Da Jiao, hearing Jiang Xuan’s explanation, finally understood the situation.
But he soon asked, “Leader, if knocking the bamboo tube can bring back Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants, why didn’t the Five-Colored Ducks and other animals return?”
Jiang Xuan answered, “Five-Colored Ducks prefer living by the riverside, which is too far to hear.
You could try bringing the bamboo tube and stick over and knock by the river to see if the dosticated Five-Colored Ducks co back.”
“As for large bamboo rats, Gray Rabbits, and those big insects, they’re naturally more cautious and harder to dosticate.
Since food is abundant in the forest, it’s unlikely they’ll return.”
Da Jiao said, “Having so co back is good enough, I’ll try digging so bugs to lure back the Five-Colored Ducks.”
Jiang Xuan nodded, “Give it a try, theoretically, Five-Colored Ducks should be like Seven-Colored Pheasants, easier to dosticate and should appear upon hearing the sound.”
Da Jiao nodded firmly, then went off excitedly to dig so bugs.
His attachnt to these farm animals was like Gan Song’s love for crops.
After trying his best, even if only one Five-Colored Duck returned, Da Jiao would feel it was worthwhile.
Da Jiao imdiately gathered so Wanderers who had helped dosticate animals and went to dig a bunch of bugs, then caught small snails, fish, shrimp, and water grasses by the river.
First, they fed the Unihorn Birds and Seven-Colored Pheasants in the caves until full, then carried leftover food in lidded vine baskets, heading to the Feiyu River by the reed beds.
Next to the reeds, Da Jiao put the snails, fish, shrimp, and water plants on the ground.
He hugged the large bamboo tube, looked around, and started knocking rhythmically.
“Bang, bang, bang…”
Da Jiao kept knocking while the Wanderers watched the tall reeds nervously.
To their disappointnt, after a while of knocking, there was no movent from the reed beds.
“Could it be the Five-Colored Ducks are no longer here?”
One Wanderer sat dejectedly on the ground, clearly losing hope in the Five-Colored Ducks returning.
“Let’s…knock a bit longer…”
Not wanting to give up, Da Jiao continued knocking.
Just as he was about to lose all hope, suddenly a plump Five-Colored Duck flapped its wings and flew out of the reeds.
“Quack, quack, quack…”
This Five-Colored Duck rushed straight to the food on the ground, gulping down happily.
Soon, several more Five-Colored Ducks couldn’t resist and flew over directly.
“They’re back, they’ve really co back!”
Tears of joy stread down Da Jiao’s face as he and the Wanderers quickly trapped the ducks with vine baskets, taking them back for continued dostication.
