Unica’s question left Lette and the others dumbfounded.
Indeed, what special abilities does the Sea Witch possess?
So far, they only know that the Blood Witch Scarlett can suppress the Dark Race. The Light Witch Joanna can nullify Holy Light.
And as for Emily, she has only displayed mastery over all magic elents.
As for Alice, she can freely use her imagination within the Dream Realm.
Putting together these known abilities of the four witches, there doesn’t seem to be any commonality.
Especially considering that a witch might exhibit two entirely different abilities before and after completing the banquet, much like how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
Without prior knowledge, who would have thought that a worm could eventually fly?
"For now, we lack information."
"Ah... I thought I could be like Sister Emily, able to control the elents and possess overwhelming combat power!"
Emily was initially proud, then her face sagged like a bitter lon.
"You have no idea what price I paid for these. I was tornted and tortured by this man ti and again.
Both my spirit and body were constantly ravaged..."
Wah!
The entire tavern’s attention once again shifted towards Lette, leaving him on the brink of tears.
"Hey, hey, hey, you have to take responsibility for what you say!"
"I’m willing to be accountable for every word I said, but tell , which part did I say wrong?"
Lette took a deep breath, looking at Unica, who wore an unusual expression.
"What she ans is that the path to becoming strong involved a lot of intense training. I’m actually a good person, I read the Spring and Autumn Annals."
Noticing Unica’s still skeptical look, Lette sighed helplessly, realizing his reputation might be beyond redemption.
"Forget it, let’s get back to the main topic. We don’t know what your ability is yet.
However, witches might exhibit talents related to their abilities in daily life.
So are exactly the sa, like Alice. Others are exactly the opposite, like Joanna."
Unica pondered for a mont: "If we must talk about special talents, then I am very good at investigations.
But if we have to relate it to magic or evil gods, I think I have a talent in alchemy."
"Alchemy?"
"Yes, the first ti I ca here, I used the Disguise Potion I made myself. After all, that kind of potion is really expensive on the black market, I simply can’t afford it.
Even if I bought it, the director wouldn’t reimburse .
Luckily, I learned a bit of basic alchemy when I was young, so I gave it a try myself."
Lette gave her a thumbs up: "Daring to challenge a high-difficulty task like making a Disguise Potion with just so basic knowledge of alchemy, do you even know how terrifying that is!"
"No, for , having no money is even more terrifying."
Unica looked distressed: "That bottle of Disguise Potion would cost half a year’s salary!
My ho is in a small fishing village by Kedrus Harbor City, and my family depends on my salary to survive.
If we lack money, Dad would have to go fishing despite being seriously ill.
This strange fog is so sinister, if anything happens... Our whole family won’t know how to live."
Lette patted her shoulder: "Things will get better."
Emily nodded slightly: "Yes, things will get better. As long as we eliminate the troublemakers secretly causing chaos, everything will get better.
But, being able to make alchemy potions with limited knowledge shows you definitely have talent.
Lette, what do you think?"
Lette raised his eyebrow, understanding the deeper aning behind Emily’s words.
In the Daughter of the Sea story, the Sea Witch was an Alchemist Mage. The potions she brewed could even temporarily change the Little rmaid’s racial traits.
Unica’s talent, however, matched their analysis earlier.
Lette smiled, hiding his emotions well: "Alchemist is considered one of the more common branches among Mages.
They excel at mixing and preparing various magic potions for ergency use.
If given enough preparation ti, an Alchemist’s combat ability might even surpass a Mage’s.
So, if you wish to beco stronger, I could teach you a thing or two."
Emily widened her eyes: "I know you are skilled with matters related to Elental Mages.
But are you skilled with alchemy too?"
"Whether you call it skill or not, I can at least get her started. Besides, whether it’s Mages, Alchemists, Sorcerers, or Druids.
They all follow the principle of the master guiding the door, the individual’s practice is key.
Only a few rare cases need soone behind them with a whip driving them.
Even with that, they’re often pushed instead of moving forward!"
Emily puffed her cheeks at Lette: "I suspect you’re insinuating sothing about !"
"Wasn’t I clear enough? I’m definitely talking about you!"
"Ahem, Mr. Wright, are you really willing to teach ?"
Unica seed a bit excited, due to her background and financial ability. Finding a real Mage to instruct her was a re fantasy.
But Emily still held a skeptical attitude: "You’re shalessly admitting it. Then let’s hear so alchemical terms from you first!"
"One sulfur, two nitrate, three charcoal, add a little sugar..."
"Stop! Which decent Alchemist starts by teaching how to make a bomb!?"
"Never mind that, just say if you can do it!"
Lette stood up: "I’ll go out for a stroll, you two can find once you’re done eating, let’s head to the police station promptly."
With that, he walked out of the tavern alone and stood on the empty street.
The thick mist lingered in Harbor City, and the salty sea breeze made Lette a bit uncomfortable.
"This mist is definitely problematic. It would be great to locate its source."
With a sigh, Lette wandered at the entrance for a while, sorting out the information he had just obtained from Emily.
Less than a quarter of an hour later, the well-fed two girls erged from the tavern.
"Breakfast should be good but not too filling."
Lette looked at their slightly expanded bellies and said speechlessly: "People who don’t know might think you both are expecting in five or six months."
Lette just wanted to make a joke, but words related to motherhood were evidently sensitive to the two won.
Seeing their emotions drop instantly, Lette realized he spoke wrongly.
He quickly changed the subject: "Oh right, I rembered, isn’t there an alchemy workshop in Harbor City?
Unica, why didn’t you go to them then?"
"That’s the City Lord’s alchemy workshop, not to ntion visiting a master, we’re not even allowed to go inside."
Unica sighed: "We even suspected at one point that the serial killer was connected to the alchemy workshop’s people.
After all, those strange and ritualistic murders undeniably connected to sinister wizards.
We wanted them to cooperate with the investigation, but the City Lord wouldn’t issue a special permit.
So, the matter ended without any result.
Even the police departnt has many limitations.
Especially in Upper City, everyone living there is soone important or wealthy.
They each have power and influence, indulgently enjoying the privileges brought by their status, not caring about the lives of those in Lower City."
Lette looked up at the sky: "It’s getting late, let’s walk and talk."
"Alright!"
The three of them left the tavern and headed down the main road toward the police station.
Along the way, Lette continued his chat with Unica: "Logically speaking, even aristocrats wouldn’t dare to offend your police departnt, right?
After all, they need you for safety, and even if they’re afraid you’ll cause trouble behind the scenes, they would behave.
At least, they wouldn’t openly oppose you."
Unica pouted: "Oh, please. The City Lord Mansion’s guards have always been responsible for the defense in Upper City.
We detectives are at most assisting with patrols.
As for Lower City, the departnt doesn’t intervene much either. It’s too mixed up, hard to handle.
Plus, they have their own set of unwritten rules, more effective than explicit laws.
Before the dense fog ca, including the Chief Inspector and Deputy Chief Inspector and cleaners, the whole departnt had less than ten people.
It was only after the fog arrived that the departnt expanded greatly, creating the illusion of trendous power."
Lette smiled slightly: "You guys are too honest, or rather too focused on procedural justice. If the City Lord won’t let you investigate, it ans the City Lord is possibly involved.
Under such circumstances, we need to handle it specially and sneakily slip in and take a look."
Unica was a bit surprised: "How do you put ’sneakily slip in’ and ’openly’ together in one sentence?"
"Anyway, get ready to be amazed with ."
As the trio joked, they arrived at the police station where the officers and agents were just as bustling as usual, busy non-stop.
The Chief Inspector warmly greeted the three upon seeing them.
"Sir Wright, hello, hello! Ah, aren’t these our station’s best Twin Detectives?"
"Just one day and they’re already two great heroes?"
Lette cheerfully put an arm around the Chief Inspector’s shoulders: "Chief, co on, let’s talk about sothing in your office."
With that, Lette led the Chief Inspector and the two won to the office on the second floor.
Before long, surprised exclamations echoed from the office: "What? Is what you said true?"
A bit later, all four of them walked out of the office. The Chief stood on the second floor, solemnly announcing to everyone.
"Attention everyone, I have so good news. The fog serial killer! Was successfully eliminated last night, thanks to the joint effort of Detective Emily and Detective Unica!
The serial murder case is finally solved!
Soon I will issue a notice, please post them on several bulletin boards in the city.
Thanks for all your hard work, with this significant case solved, today’s on for a great al! Bonuses will be distributed tomorrow morning!
Let’s hear those cheers!"
"Woo-hoo!!!"
The cheers erupted throughout the police station, although so doubted this result.
Questioning where the killer’s body was, whether there was a proper identification, and the motive, none of which was ntioned.
But, there’s a bonus and a feast!
Presumably, these questions would be addressed in the notice!
After working tirelessly for so many days, finally having so results! Cheer first, ask questions later!
Standing on the second floor, Lette attentively observed everyone’s expressions present. Unfortunately, he found no one acting suspicious.
Just as he was about to descend from the second floor, the police station’s door was suddenly pushed open, and a laborer-looking individual rushed in.
"It’s bad, it’s bad! The Lower City Pier, the cargo dock workers and the fishing port folks, they’re about to fight!"
The Chief Inspector was startled: "What? Cargo dock and fishing port have always kept to their own, how could a fight break out now?"
"They’re really about to clash, a huge crowd is gathering, and it looks serious! Officers, hurry up!
If you’re too late, it may be out of control!"
Lette’s brows furrowed, the Flesh God Sect’s followers were cargo dock workers.
Why would there suddenly be a conflict with the fishern from the fishing port?
Could it be, soone intentionally incited the dispute, aiming to weaken the Flesh God Sect’s montum?
"Emily, Unica, let’s go take a look!"
