They Hated Me in My First Life, But Now I Have the Love System Chapter 423: Nnenna is with Him?
Chapter 423: Nnenna is with Him?
Carl stood up and walked toward her with a warm smile, his gaze soft but unreadable. He gently tucked a few stray strands of hair behind her ear, then stepped back slightly, admiring his handiwork with a proud nod.
“I’m really happy to see you, Nnenna,” he said, his voice low but filled with genuine warmth. “When I said we would et soon, I made sure it would happen.”
Nnenna tilted her head, curious. “So… you’re really a lecturer here?”
Carl chuckled lightly, the sound smooth and soothing. “Of course. I didn’t want to say anything until it was certain. They’ve been trying to get to teach here for a while now. The mont I hinted at it, they couldn’t wait to hand a position.” He smiled, eyes twinkling with sothing deeper.
“I need to stay close,” he continued. “To protect you… and to make sure you don’t fall in love with so random guy while I’m not looking.” He winked, half joking but completely serious. “Until you’re truly happy with soone good and approved by , I’ll be here, always.”
Nnenna’s cheeks lifted in a small smile. “I don’t need romance to be happy. I am happy now,” she said softly.
But in the back of her mind, Jana’s ridiculous drama surfaced. For a second, she considered telling Carl, but quickly decided against it.
That girl was just another cloud passing by, nothing worth troubling her big brother over. Carl didn’t need distractions like that, not when he was doing so much already.
She glanced at the clock. “Soone’s waiting for at the school gate,” she said, picking up her bag. “It’s ti I head ho.”
“I’ll walk you out,” Carl offered at once, already moving toward the door like a shadow at her side.
Most of the students had already returned to their hostels. So were still in lectures. The school grounds now felt strangely quiet, with only a few people walking by in scattered groups.
Nnenna and Carl strolled together at a relaxed pace, chatting openly. She told him everything, well, almost everything, that had happened since her arrival.
Carl listened with genuine interest, occasionally chiming in with questions or amused comnts. It felt easy between them, the way it always had.
But when they reached the school gate, Nnenna stopped in her tracks.
Her brows furrowed. “She’s not here…” she muttered, looking around in disbelief.
Carl paused beside her, scanning the area. “I thought you said soone was waiting for you.”
“She was supposed to,” Nnenna replied, trying to mask her irritation. “But… she’s gone.”
She let out a soft, humorless laugh. Why was she even surprised? Of course Ava would pull sothing like this. It was just her style, quietly petty, but always in a way that left her blaless.
Carl frowned, picking up on what wasn’t said. “Let guess,” he said, lips thinning. “Arthur’s sister didn’t want to go ho with you.”
Nnenna gave a small nod, not trusting herself to speak without sounding bitter.
Carl sighed and shook his head. “Jealousy doesn’t suit her,” he said simply, eyes narrowing slightly. “Co on. I’ll give you a lift. I know the way.”
Without waiting for her to protest, he turned and gestured toward the sleek black car parked nearby. Nnenna hesitated for a mont, then followed.
She wasn’t going to let Ava’s childish gas ruin her day.
“Thank you,” Nnenna said with genuine relief as she settled into the car.
She honestly had no idea how she would’ve found her way back alone. The city was massive, the roads unfamiliar, and even if she sohow managed to find a taxi, she wouldn’t even know how to direct them.
Worse, she wasn’t sure she would even be allowed into the castle without proper identification, especially if the gatekeepers didn’t recognize her.
Having Carl take her back was not just comforting, it was the safest option.
Carl glanced over at her as he started the car. “I’m glad I decided to walk you out. You would have been stranded.”
“You think?” Nnenna smiled slightly, relaxing into the seat. “I would’ve ended up sowhere ridiculous.”
They both chuckled as the car rolled smoothly through the quiet campus roads. The conversation between them flowed easily, full of warmth and familiarity.
They reminisced about old tis, exchanged updates, and teased each other like they used to. It was easy… and for Nnenna, a little nostalgic.
Before long, the castle’s towering silhouette ca into view.
At the gate, the guards imdiately recognized Carl. They bowed respectfully and opened the gates without hesitation.
One of them even picked up a communicator and said quickly, “Inform His Highness Prince Arthur, Prince Carl has arrived.”
Carl raised an eyebrow but didn’t comnt.
Inside the castle, the ssage was swiftly delivered. Arthur, lounging in his quarters, frowned as he heard it.
Carl?
He hadn’t expected his friend to fly in. Not today. And certainly not without notice.
What was he doing here?
Still, Arthur didn’t move. He remained seated, staring at the ssage in silence. Since it said nothing about Nnenna, his curiosity didn’t go far.
One of his oldest friends visiting? h. Not that interesting. He figured Carl would explain himself, eventually.
So, for now, he stayed put.
Carl parked right in front of the castle’s grand main doors, stepping out with his usual grace. Nnenna, not one to wait around for help, opened the passenger door herself and climbed out, earning surprised looks from the nearby servants.
They had hurried forward, ready to assist, but froze in place, unsure what to do now. She didn’t seem like soone who needed pampering.
anwhile, deep inside the castle, a certain prince was just finding out sothing… interesting.
Arthur had barely glanced at the first ssage, but when the second one ca in, with a small detail added, he shot to his feet.
Nnenna is with him?
Gone was the composed, indifferent prince. He didn’t think, didn’t hesitate. He rushed out like a man on fire.
