The monster’s unpleasant screeching had faded away, leaving behind a silence in the village that, beneath the night sky, seed akin to that of a land of the dead.

In fact, that was exactly the case. Even though the monster’s Dark Matter had all been absorbed, the ground was still littered with dead bodies, emitting the stench of decaying Flesh and Blood.

"Excuse , may I co over now?"

At this mont, a figure hesitated and peered out from behind a nearby bungalow.

It was the surviving military police.

He was sternly instructed by the awakened Luo Kai that he must absolutely not approach the battlefield; otherwise, he would be contaminated by the monster and turned into its nourishnt. Therefore, he only dared to co closer after there was no more movent here.

Xu Shuo nodded, "Yes, you can co over now. There should be no danger in the village anymore. You can look around for any survivors."

But there probably weren’t any left.

Ordinary people could hardly resist the Abyss’s corruption.

Despite this, the military police officer left with a solemn face.

Xu Shuo glanced at Luo Kai, who was lying on the ground, then picked him up by the collar and dragged him toward a decayed and dilapidated bungalow in the distance.

There were no extra sounds in the pitch-black village, just the shuffling of footsteps dragging across the ground.

The light from the searchlight shone upwards, faintly revealing tiny particles floating in the air, and the dim light also outlined the scattered silhouettes on the ground.

The villagers who had died earlier were all left unburied, gathered in a more spacious bungalow.

Each person had a huge gash in their abdon, devoid of blood or viscera, the darkened cuts looking as if they were sared with oil.

The place reeked unbearably.

Yet not a single insect ca near this spot.

Xu Shuo placed Luo Kai at the doorway, then took out a face mask and put it on before stepping into the house to look around.

The monster had erged from right here.

Many guards had also died around this house, the first to attack when the monster suddenly awoke and also the first to be corroded by the darkness.

Now, only a few pieces of broken walls lay on the ground, and the roof was completely shattered, leaving the place in total disarray.

The floor felt sticky.

Every step was t with a black, thick substance.

This stuff, which resembled the shed skin of cicada pupae, held no value other than to disgust and bother those who ca across it.

Xu Shuo aimlessly walked around inside but didn’t perceive anything peculiar, not even the cool malice that was once palpable.

Afterward, he turned and walked towards the adjacent, slightly smaller house.

These bungalows were connected, low-rise but very long, arranged in an L-shape.

The small house standing to the side served as the household’s storeroom, with the kitchen and latrine built alongside it, usually used to store an assortnt of tools or crops.

The door was ajar.

Xu Shuo stepped forward to push the door open and was instantly hit by a surge of chill that went straight to the apex of the head.

"Um, young man..."

Suddenly, a low call ca from behind him.

Xu Shuo gripped his staff tightly and turned around expressionlessly, to see the military police officer, who had been jogging over, halt involuntarily, then sheepishly continued to approach.

"Up until now, none of you have told exactly what’s going on here," the military police officer ventured to ask.

"Why don’t you start by telling what you know?" Xu Shuo leaned against the door fra and looked at him.

"So ti ago, people near the canal heard a lot of noise coming from this area," the officer began. "But they couldn’t make out what was happening, and out of concern for illegal quarrying, the Municipal Bureau dispatched people to check it out.

"Everything seed fine until the 8th, when the survey team lost contact.

"The Municipal Bureau sent another team to find them and that’s when they discovered this village..."

At this point, the officer’s expression turned downcast, his gaze filled with sorrow as he looked upon the hellish scene faintly illuminated by the light.

Although this secluded village was small, it had a dozen or so inhabitants.

So many people died an unnatural death, and in such a horrifying and strange manner, that it naturally shook the official levels, and the Municipal Bureau imdiately requested help from the ard forces, which then led to the military’s involvent in the investigation.

The ard forces actually arrived just this morning, and they haven’t even had the chance to uncover anything yet.

Xu Shuo, listening, nodded and pointed toward the pile of bodies by the bungalow, "Then what do you think caused this?"

"Hmm... a monster?" the ard policeman ventured tentatively.

"..."

Isn’t that blatantly obvious?

Xu Shuo patiently said, "I an, what kind of monster?"

"Ghosts and goblins?" the ard policeman blurted out.

"Do you think it was them?" Xu Shuo looked at him aningfully.

Upon hearing this, the ard policeman was stunned.

Ghosts and goblins?

As much as it seed unlikely, rather than calling it a supernatural event, it seed more persuasive to bla it on demonic disturbances.

But in Huaxia’s traditional mythology, there were no demons of such a strange sort—just seeing that thing made it difficult to think, and the sound of its screaming made it even more agitating, completely disrupting one’s rationale, almost blurring one’s consciousness.

At that ti, his mind was filled with nothing but those chaotic cries and images of the monster covered in bizarre heads.

Back then, the only shred of reason left in him wanted to flee the area as fast as possible, but upon seeing countless fallen comrades, he couldn’t bring himself to move his feet.

He couldn’t even rember what he had been doing at that mont.

All he rembered was, when his consciousness beca slightly clearer, he saw a strange young man undressing one of his comrades...

That mont completely snapped the ard policeman out of it.

Afterward, he did witness these two special individuals and the monster fighting, though the combat techniques they used didn’t seem anything extraordinary, lacking in flashy skills.

Considering this, the ard policeman hesitantly said, "Could it be so kind of evil god from abroad?"

He racked his brain and couldn’t recall any monster from Huaxia looking like that, so he might as well shift the bla abroad.

Hearing this, Xu Shuo raised an eyebrow, "Actually, it’s not far off. You could consider them as coming from abroad, but I don’t know exactly from where, nor do I know why this village has given birth to monsters."

"You don’t know? But you guys just now..." the ard policeman frowned slightly.

"Aren’t you also in the dark, yet here you are in this village?" Xu Shuo said.

"..." Ah, this.

Are they the sa?

As the ard policeman opened his mouth to phrase a response, Luo Kai, who had been thrown at the entrance of the courtyard, rubbed his neck and got up. Experience tales at .Côm

He touched his throat, puzzled, "Strange, why do I feel a bit breathless upon waking up?"

Xu Shuo turned his head towards him, "Is it resolved?"

"Mhm, the harvest wasn’t bad," Luo Kai replied with a smile curling up at the corner of his mouth.

"Then can you take care of this place too?" Xu Shuo pointed to the small kitchen he was leaning against.

"Let check."

Seeing the two n were about to get down to business again, the ard policeman had to swallow his questions for the ti being and stepped aside to make way for the big shot.

As Luo Kai approached the door, he imdiately shivered.

"Hiss, the Yin energy is so heavy here!"

Hmm?

The ard policeman instantly turned his head to look.

Wasn’t it said to be not a supernatural event?
