Chapter 77: [Bonus Chapter] Testing the Limits! (9)

"With pleasure," Xagrien replied to Luis. He saw that his bearer looked kindly at Nereen and he knew from that simple gesture that probably, Nereen was also a victim.

Xagrien breathed a sigh of relief while reminding himself to apologize later. He owes it to his friend for thinking the worst of Nereen when Luis told him about what he saw in Nereen’s body.

"Oh, the strongest warrior from the group that led my creation astray," the owl’s eyes shot daggers at Xagrien. The animosity was too obvious in Lord Isami’s words.

"Did you know that your group of weaklings are also the reason why First– oh no let

correct that," Lord Isami mocked, "your trusted Nereen was reduced to such a state? It was because of you. Your sick family role-play made his faith in

waver."

"Really? Thank you for telling

that." Xagrien’s expression didn’t change at all. Now that solidifies his faith in his friend. "Since you threw him away, then I will make sure that he will co ho with us."

He’s been listening to the nonsensical words that are coming out of the owl’s beak and all he wanted to do was to kill it to make it stop.

Nereen is his friend. Soone who ate, laughed and stayed with them for years.

Xagrien quickly ran towards the bird and punched and kicked at it. Each of his attacks carries a high voltage of lightning that could instantly fry anything.

Xagrien was faithful to his lord’s orders.

On the other hand, the hideous owl that’s controlled by Lord Isami didn’t fly idly. It tried its best to evade Xagrien’s attack, barely dodging it.

"Accelerate." Xagrien heard the man say. A small magic circle appeared just behind the bird and the speed exponentially increased.

"So this is magic," Xagrien whispered. Strange enough, he felt a strong inclination to magic as if he was eting an old friend.

They raced against each other around the underground place.

One is using magic and the other is using the elental power of lightning.

Xagrien’s movents are a little restrained since they are underground. But that doesn’t hinder him at all.

"I can’t understand why you are too kind to your friend," Lord Isami mocked once again. He put emphasis on the word friend as if it was sothing disgusting. "Did you know that he is the one responsible for letting those root crawlers (that you called) in the tunnels that you painstakingly made? He made a high-tiered transportation magic circle to ship hundreds of thousands of failed test subjects to this place!"

"He did it again and again until the magic circle itself gave away and he was actually up to creating another one!" Lord Isami in the body of the owl laughed hysterically.

"That is the sa friend that you are saving right now!"

"Then he deserved to be skewered through his chest." Xagrien deadpanned.

"The Nereen that you know is not a moon elf or an orc. He is an abomination created by soone. He is a parasitic golem that latches to a compatible host to live. Your friend is leeching off a child!" Lord Isami said like the devil that is testing Xagrien’s limits.

Xagrien sighed, the lighting in his fist vanished but his index and middle finger are now charged with electricity that is thrice what he had earlier. "Now I understand why my moon elf lord said that he is sick of listening to you."

Xagrien decided earlier that he will listen to Nereen later.

"So what if he is a golem? So what if his body is made up of mud and clay? He is not the only one who has a weird constitution."

’Just like .’

After saying that, Xagrien fired the lightning charged in his two fingers towards the smug and annoying owl.

"Mana Shield," Lord Isami tried to defend himself using a magic spell.

A thick shield that is made up of magic t with a single strip of concentrated lightning.

The two different kinds of power collide. The two fighters felt the pressure of the collision but no one was backing down.

For the first ti, a single drop of sweat appeared on Xagrien’s forehead.

"You!" Lord Isami exclaid after feeling sothing weird from the lightning. Sothing that a bolt of lightning that is made up of nature’s energy shouldn’t have.

It was a montary distraction but it was enough to catch Lord Isami off guard, causing the shield to crack.

Xagrien’s lightning penetrated the shield and it burned the lower body of the owl.

"Hahaha," Lord Isami’s maniac laugh reverberates throughout the solid walls. Appearing as if the charred body didn’t bother him at all. "Well, it seems like the warm-up is done now."

"What do you an?" Xagrien’s brows crossed.

"I told you right? Even if this owl dies, nothing will change." Lord Isami said a smile evident in his voice.

"Even though that trash of a creation was swayed by your group, I know for a fact that First will keep all the things that he considered as important to

in his body," the owl slowly lost the shine in its eyes. "Everything is according to my design. And your friend will be my ninth and the greatest masterpiece to this date."

Lord Isami didn’t forget to say his final threat.

"I will make sure to harvest the life of your lord when the ti cos. I will not let him receive any title-" and the owl died. Leaving Xagrien with a terrifyingl expression on his face.

~~

A few monts before Xagrien killed the owl.

Luis instructed Olyn to free Nereen from the pillars. The man finally regained his full consciousness but he isn’t well at all.

Nereen looked as if despair had completely eaten him.

"Just go and leave

here. It’s no use." Nereen uttered as the pillars slowly returned to the ground.

"No, do I still remind you that you–," Luis’ words are cut short by what he saw.

Nereen’s wound didn’t heal at all, instead, the mud that flowed solidified and it connected with the ground.

Olyn panicked after seeing this. "My lord, what should we do? Should we cut his arm to set him free?"

"It was my fault, I accidentally fired because that owl almost bumped my hand so I beca startled," Rion apologized. Thinking that he almost touched that scary-looking owl sent shivers to his body.

However, Nereen only closed his eyes.

Luis scrutinized the bright yellow substance that blends with the mud. His instincts told him that he encountered this before.

"Are those the stones that ca from those root crawlers’ heads?" Luis asked but Nereen continued closing his eyes.

His forehead is wrinkled as if he was giving 100 percent of his focus to sothing.

Nereen finally opened his eyes after so ti.

"Indeed, that is the transmitter stone that is installed inside the heads of those failed test subjects. I’ve been told to keep it safe because I was told that Lord Isami has use for these," Nereen answered casually.

"They tried to trick you?" Olyn exclaid.

"You are the moon elf lord right?," Nereen asked Luis. "Then keep the child safe."

"What–," Luis tried to ask but sothing unexpected happened. The system interface suddenly popped up in front of Luis’ face and the quest page for "Sucker Trouble" quest was open.

"Holy shit!" Luis cursed out loud after seeing the tir decreasing like crazy.

He’s got a really bad premonition about it so his surprise is unimaginable when he saw the bold festive words on the translucent blue box.

Description–]

At this mont, Nereen’s body was suddenly sucked by the ground so Luis had no ti to finish reading.

"Nereen!"

He tried to reach out but what Luis caught was the body of a five-year-old moon elf who ca out of Nereen’s body. He only caught a glimpse of a fist-sized sphere that is also sucked into the earth.

Even though he is curious about what that thing was, this isn’t the right ti to ponder what that is.

"My lord!" Luis heard Olyn’s calling.

Only by this ti did he realize that the ground that they were standing on was shining.

There’s a magic circle in the ground that is stealthily made on the ground and it is activated now.

And the next thing that they felt was a tremor on the ground and the sound of water surging towards them.
