"Chief Pierce? He should still be in the police car outside!"

Boris looked at Chu Feng with confusion, not knowing what Chu Feng wanted with Pierce.

"Take to him! I have sothing I want to talk to him about."

Looking at Chu Feng’s stern face, Boris hesitated.

He was naturally aware of the new chief’s attitude towards Exorcists, and it seed that things had not been pleasant between them before.

"Chu Feng, stay calm. I don’t want to face a warrant for a friend one day!"

"Don’t worry, Boris. I’m very calm! I just need to discuss with your chief the paynt for my involvent this ti!"

"Alright, I’ll take you to him." Boris, having no choice, decided to take Chu Feng outside with him.

But he was determined that if a conflict arose, he would definitely stop Chu Feng to prevent any irreparable actions.

Soon, the two of them exited the main entrance of the hospital.

Upon leaving, Chu Feng even wondered if he had arrived at the center of so parade festival.

Outside the hospital, on the road, countless crowds had surrounded the hospital, blocking it off completely.

The surging crowd was like floodwater battering a dam, and the New York Police Departnt officers were having an extrely difficult ti keeping them at bay.

There were also nurous dia reporters excitedly holding up their caras, so even standing directly on the roofs of vehicles to capture the scene around the hospital.

"These are all relatives and friends of patients and dical staff from the hospital; they all rushed here after hearing about the incident," Boris explained, observing the crowded scene, akin to a can of sardines, and shaking his head with a troubled expression.

"I can hardly imagine what they would do once they know what happened inside!"

Chu Feng recalled the hundreds of bodies buried in a pit over ten ters deep, and a strange expression appeared on his face.

"What exactly happened inside the hospital?"

Ignoring Boris’s question, Chu Feng headed straight towards the police car not far away.

"You’ll know the answer soon enough!"

「...」

"Chu Feng, it’s that car! Chief Pierce is sitting in the back seat," Boris pointed to a solitary, brand-new police car in front of them.

Following Boris’s gesture, Chu Feng saw the police car but remained motionless where he stood.

"What’s wrong, Chu Feng?"

"Either your chief isn’t in that car, or he’s already dead inside it!"

Faced with Boris’s question, Chu Feng looked at the police car within the range of his Spiritual Perception, devoid of any light, and gently shook his head.

"How could that be?" Not believing him, Boris ran over to the side of the police car and peered through the window into the interior.

"He’s really not in there! Let give him a call."

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is switched off!" Hearing the prompt from the phone, Boris instantly felt sothing was amiss and quickly called Sara over.

"Chief Pierce? Wasn’t he always sitting in the car?" Sara looked at her boss with confusion, not knowing why he was in such a rush to find the chief.

"He’s gone! Go, ask around, see if anyone has seen him, and call the police departnt to see if he has gone back!"

A few minutes later, a panting Sara returned.

"Boss, none of our colleagues here have seen Chief Pierce. The station also says he hasn’t gone back!"

Hearing the news, Boris’s brows furrowed tightly. His years of experience in solving cases made him imdiately suspect that Chief Pierce was missing!

"Sara, take so people with us to Pierce’s house imdiately. Chu Feng, get in the car with !"

Soon, two police cars left Central Hospital in Queens, heading for Chief Pierce’s ho.

「...」

Half an hour later, inside a high-end apartnt in the western part of Queens.

"According to the information from the departnt, this should be the place!" Boris said, disconnecting the call to Pierce’s phone—which he had tried nurous tis—and gesturing towards the door in front of them.

"Boris, the salary for your police chief must be quite high, huh? Living in such a high-end apartnt!" Chu Feng remarked with admiration as he looked around at the elegantly furnished surroundings.

Boris ignored Chu Feng’s teasing and went straight up to knock on the door.

CREAK.

No sooner had Boris knocked than the apartnt door opened by itself!

Beholding the empty doorway, the gravity of the scene suddenly dawned on Boris and his companions.

They quickly drew their service weapons from their waists and cautiously entered the apartnt.

A thin layer of dust had settled on the floor of the apartnt; it looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned for quite so ti.

"Hmm, no Bizarre presence, and no one alive!" After observing the apartnt with his Spiritual Perception, Chu Feng nonchalantly sat down on the sofa, watching the policen’s movents.

Soon after, Sara’s shout ca from the second floor of the apartnt.

"Boss, co upstairs to the bedroom!" she called.

Boris and Chu Feng, who were searching the first floor, imdiately rushed upstairs.

"Huh? What’s this awful stench!" As soon as they reached the second floor, Chu Feng detected a strong, foul odor. Had he not been so experienced, he might have vomited on the spot.

Frowning, he approached the doorway of the bedroom on the second floor, only to discover a body lying on the bed—soone who had been dead for at least ten days.

"Chu Feng, head back for now! Let’s talk after we’ve dealt with this case," Boris said, his expression deeply unsettled, his eyes filled with disbelief and a dawning, existential dread.

"OK!" Chu Feng replied, a thoughtful expression appearing after seeing the face of the corpse on the bed.

Leaving the apartnt alone, the image of the body he had just seen filled Chu Feng’s mind.

So, the Chief Pierce I t this afternoon was an impostor? The real Chief Pierce had been killed at ho a long ti ago!

Chu Feng then rembered the dim-witted Demon soldier he had killed and instantly understood what was going on.

The one impersonating Chief Pierce must have been a mber of an organization that pledged allegiance to Demons, likely a Cult. This organization was aiding Demons to establish the Gate of Breaking Boundary, anwhile using the police and the hospital as locations to trap and kill all the Exorcists in New York.

"Truly a clever plan! If it weren’t for , the spanner in the works—this ’out-of-commission’ Exorcist—they might have actually succeeded!" Chu Feng mused after carefully recalling the events that had transpired.

Forget it, I’m going ho. It seems I can only pin this debt on this unseen Cult! Oh, and the New York Police Departnt...

He hailed a cab outside the apartnt. After another half-hour, it was late at night.

Under the shining starlight in the night sky, Chu Feng finally arrived back at his own ho.

「...」

By the ti Chu Feng rose again, it was already the following afternoon.

Ravenous, Chu Feng sat at the dining table eating dinner while browsing a short video app.

A video about Queens suddenly caught his interest.
