Chapter 1162: Chapter 1132: Assault from Both Fronts
Chapter 1132:
Afterwards, Da Hei and the others imdiately followed orders and left. Ye Chen and Feng Zhixiao sat down on the spot, estimating Da Hei and the others’ timing. Then Ye Chen and Feng Zhixiao erged from the jungle. A decoy strategy was underway. Ye Chen deliberately erged to attract the enemy’s attention, while the real attack direction was from behind this hill, sothing Chen Pingsong could never have imagined.
“They’ve co out, they’ve co out!” Xiao Ding said excitedly, “Captain Chen, let’s attack!”
“Attack my ass, wait till they get closer!” Chen Pingsong sneered.
“Alright!” Everyone imdiately nodded. Subsequently, Chen Pingsong and his group began to prepare for battle. However, it seed that Ye Chen and his group did not intend to climb over this hill; instead, they were leisurely moving along the path. Chen Pingsong was a patient man, watching as Ye Chen and others moved within his shooting range without firing, knowing that only close-range could improve accuracy and cause actual casualties.
Unexpectedly for Chen Pingsong, just as the battle was about to comnce, gunfire erupted from behind.
“Not good, Captain Chen, they’re attacking from behind!” Xiao Ding was suddenly shocked, realizing the troops had already reached halfway up the hill. Seeing this, Chen Pingsong was furious and shouted, “Damn it, who was supposed to be guarding the back?”
“Captain Chen, didn’t you order us all here to prepare for battle?” The soldier who had been guarding the backline looked at Chen Pingsong, feeling wronged. Chen Pingsong gritted his teeth and said, “Stop talking, get into battle quickly, we’ll discuss this later!”
“Yes!” The soldiers imdiately retaliated.
The battle was about to erupt. Hearing the gunfire was like receiving an attack order for Ye Chen and the others. Ye Chen shouted, “Brothers, the chance to end the battle early is here! Charge!”
“Charge!” Two to three dozen people rushed forward.
“Not good, Captain Chen, there’s another wave coming!” Xiao Ding imdiately cried out. Chen Pingsong was sowhat vexed; he gritted his teeth and said, “Xiao Ding, you take your n and hold the front. The rest co with to defend the rear hill!”
Being attacked from both front and back is the greatest taboo in military strategy. Xiao Ding held the front line, while Chen Pingsong had only fifty n in total. Yet Ye Chen had over eighty. Nurically, Ye Chen had the advantage, but geographically, Chen Pingsong held the upper hand.
However, Ye Chen was smart enough to turn the adversary’s advantage into a disadvantage. He thoroughly altered the battlefield using both personnel and geographic factors, forcing the enemy to face attacks from both directions and open two fronts. This forced them into a tough deadlock.
The deploynt of two fronts stretched their n thin. Chen Pingsong gritted his teeth and said, “Damn it, why are they still advancing? Improve your aim; we’re running through ammo!”
Da Hei and the others were sparing in their gunfire, using the shrubs for cover and constantly crawling forward. In contrast, Chen Pingsong commanded his soldiers to fire and hold the hill, using firepower superiority to suppress them. Their fifty n had this much ammo because they had seized most of the fallen comrades’ bullets.
Ye Chen’s group hadn’t lost many, so there was no increase in ammo. With half his n lost, Chen Pingsong’s ammo increased considerably. Although they had more bullets than Ye Chen’s group, with each shot, the supply dwindled. Soon, they would run out.
“Damn it, are we going to watch them climb up?” Chen Pingsong was at his wit’s end.
“Captain Chen, we’re running low on bullets!” Xiao Ding’s side had expended more ammo without significantly hurting Ye Chen’s group. Only two soldiers had been killed; otherwise, there was minimal damage. Once they’re out of bullets, the battle is over. If Ye Chen initiates a charge, the consequences would be unimaginable.
“Save your bullets, don’t waste them!” Chen Pingsong gritted his teeth.
“Everyone only has two bullets left!” Xiao Ding said helplessly.
“Wait for them to get closer, then fire both bullets hard, then switch to hand-to-hand combat!” Chen Pingsong angrily commanded.
“Yes!” Xiao Ding could only obey orders.
Without enough ammunition, occupying high ground was a flawed military tactic. Moreover, such tactics were inherently flawed. Chen Pingsong’s group could only watch as Ye Chen and Da Hei crawled forward. Ye Chen’s group would occasionally fire back; if anyone dared to stick his head out, he’d shoot.
Watching Ye Chen’s group approaching, Chen Pingsong’s n chose to fire again. But Ye Chen’s group wasn’t foolish; not returning fire would an death. Once the firepower clashed, casualties occurred on both sides.
Soon, Chen Pingsong’s ammo was depleted. He gritted his teeth and shouted, “Brothers, throw your grenades!”
“Yes!” Each soldier had one or two grenades ready. Just as they were about to throw, Ye Chen’s troops had already given their grenades to precise throwers. Four or five grenades at a ti were thrown over the hill.
Boom…
The grenades exploded, causing chaos among the enemy.
“Damn it!” Covered in dust, when the bombs went off, everyone hit the ground. Most were unhard since grenades have explosive dead zones. By lying low, generally, there wouldn’t be much harm.
As the dust settled, Chen Pingsong ordered the grenades to be tossed. Unfortunately, either they missed the mark, or the explosions didn’t hit anyone. Every soldier knows the dead zones of grenades. In elite soldier combat, grenades were largely ineffective. The previous battle at Dragon Spring Pond saw Ye Chen choosing grenades because of the water’s amplifying effect.
This ti, on a gentle slope, grenade tossing had little effect.
“Brothers, our chance to charge has co!” Ye Chen stood up, waved his arm, and shouted, “Capture Chen Pingsong alive!”
“Capture Chen Pingsong alive!” Everyone imdiately leapt up, charging forward.
Seeing the opponent charging from front and back, Chen Pingsong knew he was finished. Without ammo, winning this battle was a fool’s dream. Moreover, with less than thirty of his n against over eighty of the enemy, even if they escaped with thirty, the future held more challenges: low morale, no food or water, no ammo, nothing at all.
“We’ll fight them!” Xiao Ding also got up, clutching a dagger, rushing towards them.
“Xiao Ding!” Chen Pingsong watched his confidant rush out, wanting to call him back, but it was too late. Xiao Ding was shot dead by Ye Chen imdiately. Ye Chen shouted, “Surrender and you’ll live, surrender and you’ll live!”
Others joined the shout: “Surrender and you’ll live, surrender and you’ll live!”
That tactic worked; many dropped weapons, crouched on the ground with hands raised high. Chen Pingsong, seeing his n dropping weapons, felt despair fill him. He had lost the battle, and so tragically, so valiantly.
“Charge!” Da Hei and the first wave rushed the hill, aiming their guns at the crouching soldiers. Chen Pingsong remained prone, his rifle still in hand, though out of ammo. Da Hei imdiately spotted Chen Pingsong, walked over, and kicked the rifle from his hand, scolding, “Chen Pingsong, you lost!”
“Heh heh…” Chen Pingsong gave a bitter smile, “Yes, I lost!”
“Kid, aren’t you unsatisfied with losing?” Da Hei frowned.
“Loss is loss, no room for dissatisfaction!” Chen Pingsong said calmly. “Kill then. Killing might vent Ye Chen’s anger!”
“You think we’re as petty as you?” Da Hei sneered.
“Then what are you going to do?” Chen Pingsong asked in surprise.
“Relax, we’re not as cruel as you think!” Da Hei walked over, activated Chen Pingsong’s flare. A plu of red smoke released from Chen Pingsong’s back.
“You!” Chen Pingsong was taken aback, not expecting them to let him go like this. If roles were reversed, he wouldn’t have spared Ye Chen. His orders were to go against Ye Chen. His thoughts and resolve seed odd. Why could they treat him leniently, and why couldn’t he treat others the sa? Chen Pingsong took a deep breath and saluted Ye Chen and the others.
