Chapter 123: The Most Imperfect Anomaly (8)

The child bit his lips. Slowly, he nodded.

"What are you?" Khal firmly asked again. Devion and Ayen did not say a word, letting Khal control the conversation.

Ayen had already withdrawn his hand from the child’s face and leaned on his chair. The child was not crying any longer, but his eyes and lashes were still wet from tears.

"A monster. I’ve beco a monster." The child swallowed and fidgeted nervously, lips trembling. "But, I’m not, a bad kid. I won’t, hurt anyone." The child wiped his eyes again. "Please, don’t hurt, ."

The child was aware of his changes.

Khal chose not to respond imdiately. He stared at the child with a thoughtful expression. After a while, he lifted his gaze to look at the two.

Devion was curious about the anomaly’s origins, but he was not fixated on it either. However, Ayen showed a slight reprimand in his gaze, seemingly displeased that the child cried again.

Khal bit the inside of his cheek, not wanting to smile. In the end, his approach softened. He would not risk Ayen getting mad at him over this matter.

"Aegi," Khal called the na; the child cautiously t his gaze. "What happened? Can you tell us?" This was already the extent of his gentle tone for others.

It was still effective. The child loosened his shoulders and sniffed. He slowly nodded.

"I can. I, can... show you."

The three were a bit surprised but did not give an excessive reaction this ti. As the child had a mysterious origin and could even conjure a perfect replica of the past, showing its mory should be easier for it.

Seeing the three agreed, the child’s eyes glead, and his pupils darkened until they were pitch black. The surroundings warped, but the platform where they sat remained undisturbed.

Ayen watched curiously, focusing on what the child wanted to show.

Gradually, the scenery changed, and a familiar town erged. Scene after scene appeared before them. It was like being inside a vivid dream or watching a movie. Although both were actually accurate.

It then stopped at one scene.

"Aegi," the woman called to a child. "Co here, aegi..."

The ’cara’ focused on the child called ’aegi’ and his wide grin as he jumped at the woman’s embrace. The child was wearing the sa overall green dinosaur outfit.

He was giggling, looking so happy in the embrace of his mother.

Ayen rely found the child’s cute giggle pleasant to the ears, but he truly did not have any feelings about the scene itself. Anything that was related to parental or motherly affection was an unknown territory for him.

He watched with a composed expression.

The scene did not focus entirely on the mother and child, but also showed the overall situation in the town. Ayen noticed the difference between the scene he experienced while being Aurelle and the scene playing before them.

The panic had already overwheld everyone. The chaos was also spreading, with so rioting in front of the three main governnt organizations.

Ayen had also seen the mansion of Aurelle’s clan being surrounded in the sa manner. However, it was thoroughly guarded, and no one could enter its gates.

The despair was slowly shrouding the whole town.

At this point, there were two more A-class espers. However, it was useless. Unless an S-class esper arrived, no one would turn the situation around.

One would think that when the situation was already this bad, they would consider evacuation.

Ayen watched how the two A-class dungeons created a mana disturbance. They were simply so close to each other that an abnormal reaction happened.

The mana disturbance made it hard for anyone to leave; they could only run in circles and return to the town. However, entering was still possible. The reason was that the two A-class espers’ reinforcents were, unfortunately, implicated as well.

The monsters were already running rampant, and any minute, the town would experience the biggest dungeon break in its history. What’s more, it was two A-class dungeons at the sa ti.

This was the scene before the disaster. Ayen looked at the child and beca curious about how important what happened to its birth as an anomaly was.

Khal and Devion were also watching seriously. They were more indifferent to death at this point, having encountered it for years.

The scene returned to the child once more. He was inside his room, watching the street from the window, with a sad expression.

For so reason, the child expressed worry and concern. His senses were more sensitive than others, and at a young age, he already showed signs of awakening as an esper.

The child decided to close the window but paused when a blood-curdling roar echoed, followed by howls. Before the child could react, the door of his room opened.

His mom had already picked him up.

"Mom?" The child called. His mom glanced at him and put on a smile, caressing the child’s back.

"Don’t worry. Mom is here. Don’t be afraid."

The child was not really afraid, but he still nodded and buried his face in the crook of his mother’s neck. The mother’s face now showed worry and fear.

Her movents were fast, and she did not bother to use the main door and directly jumped through the door. It turned out the mother was an esper.

The child tightened his arm around his mother’s neck and never asked any questions, looking so obedient. He could sense the fear spreading through the air and the sa emotion from his mother.

The mother ran in the direction of the association. The chaos was already starting, and most espers had already gone to the front lines.

The majority of the civilians chose to hide in their houses, with so rioting outside. The despair created by the situation intensified the evil in their hearts.

They began to light fires and destroyed the town, saying that they could kill themselves before the monsters do. They cursed the governnt and the espers, and so even ntioned Khal and Devion’s nas.

They prayed for their protection, but once it was extrely hopeless, they were also the first to be cursed by the citizens.

Ayen glanced at the two but saw no regret or emotion in their eyes as they watched the chaos.
