Chapter 475

By the ti night had fully settled in, I made my way to the stable where Blurin was waiting.

Ideally, I would’ve liked to visit him right after getting back, but... introducing Milia and Miss Bell to Blurin right away might’ve been a little too much for them to handle. So, I decided to wait until later.

“Blurin, you awake?”

“Grrua!”

“Oh, good. You’re up.”

I crouched down in front of the big blue bear, who was sprawled out atop a pile of hay stacked like a makeshift futon, and scratched under his chin.

Blurin narrowed his eyes in bliss, and I smiled too as I reached into the bucket I’d brought along and pulled out the fruit I had prepared just for him.

“Here you go.”

“Gruu.”

Blurin took the fruit with a contented grunt and began chewing away.

Relieved to see my partner just the sa as ever, I sat down beside him.

“Did you get enough exercise while I was gone?”

“GRRUA!!”

“...Really? You say that, but it kinda looks like you put on weight again.”

I gave his side a testing pinch. Yep—soft and squishy.

What are you, a bear prepping for hibernation? Don’t tell you’ve just been snoozing the whole ti I was away.

“Looks like we’ll have to get back to running again.”

“Gruu...”

“Don’t ‘gruu’ .”

Letting out a clearly displeased snort, Blurin slouched so I could lean against him.

...Feels like this is the first real mont I’ve had to relax since coming back.

If I let my guard down too much, I might just doze off like this, so I decided to keep chatting with him.

“Calm Helio was rough. There was just way too much to take care of, and in the end, I still couldn’t save Shea.”

Each ti I solve one problem, two more show up in its place.

I don’t even know when I’ll [N O V E L I G H T] see her again, or what state she’ll be in when I do.

Like Nea always says, I’ve gotta be ready for the worst-case scenario—...

“...”

“Grua?”

“...Ah, sorry. Zoned out for a second.”

Guess I got a little too deep in thought there.

I gave my cheeks a light slap to shake off the gloom and changed the subject.

“Co to think of it, Blurin—you were a horse back in Calm Helio. A blue horse.”

“...Gruu?”

“Haha, yeah, I know, doesn’t make a lick of sense.”

The only reason I could even tell it was you was because the blue fur and white mane were still the sa. That was hilarious.

...Maybe I should’ve bought that plush as a souvenir?

“...Hm?”

Soone’s coming from the dorms?

Maybe one of the seniors? But if it were her, she’d probably be trying to sneak up on with so surprise or prank—so I doubt it’s her.

Peeking out of the stable to see who it was, I caught sight of Nagi, who leaned in and t my eyes.

“Ah, Usato. Knew I’d find you here.”

...

“Hina?”

“Yep, it’s .”

Sothing felt different from the usual Nagi. The biggest giveaway, though, was the color of her eyes—purple.

Hina smiled brightly at , then plopped down at my side, where I was still leaning against Blurin.

“Mind if I sit too, Blurin?”

“Gruu.”

“He says it’s fine.”

“GRRUA!!”

Thwap! Blurin smacked on the back with his front paw.

That playful swat—I’ve gotten used to it by now.

...Though he’d never do that to anyone else.

“Hina, are you switched with Nagi right now?”

“Uh-huh. Sotis I move the body around like this. Kannagi’s still aware though, you know? Here, look—”

Hina’s violet eyes turned blue.

The air around her suddenly shifted—becoming sharp, serene. A startled expression flashed across Nagi’s face, and she gave a sheepish smile.

“Well, having always out front wouldn’t be right. Hina’s gotta co see you sotis too... so, take care of her, okay?”

“I an, I probably shouldn’t be the one saying this, but... Nagi, you’re actually kind of funny.”

“...Huh?”

“...Why do you look so shocked?”

Her reaction looked like it was aid at too.

“Ah, no, I-it’s not that I’m shocked you called funny, it’s just... um... ugh...—Hey! Kannagi, don’t just switch with when I’m flustered!”

“So that’s how you tag out, huh...”

Watching her flail and then imdiately settle down with a serious face on—yeah, that really is funny from the outside.

Hina reerged with a soft sigh.

“Honestly, Kannagi likes to act all enlightened, but he’s still kind of childish sotis.”

“Really? ...Well, I guess you’re only one year older than , huh, Nagi?”

Because she’s soone who lived hundreds of years ago, I always thought of her as way older.

But really, she’s not so different—she’s the sa age as the upperclassn, like Uluru.

“You were a huge help before the battle with the Demon Lord too, so that’s probably why I never gave it much thought.”

“Don’t praise him too much. Kannagi will get full of himself.”

“Oh, co on. Nagi’s not the type to get carried away.”

“He plays innocent in front of you all, but Kannagi’s actually got a pretty excitable personality.”

Really? I an, if Hina—who’s always with him—says so, it’s probably true, but... that’s not the image I had.

“For starters, he tries to act all grown-up just because he wants you to admire him.”

“...Huh?”

“He’s not a morning person, can’t handle spicy or sour food, and yet, he really loves eating.”

“H-Huh...”

“But he hides all that because he wants to look like he’s got it together. Not that he’s doing a very good job.”

Is this really sothing I’m supposed to be hearing?

It kind of feels like I’m witnessing a massive tell-all from one of his closest family mbers... no, worse—it’s public embarrassnt from inside his own body.

Also, Hina’s left arm has been twitching uncontrollably for a while now, like it’s got a will of its own. Flailing, trembling, fidgeting nonstop.

“Um, Hina?”

“Hm?”

“Your left hand is seriously freaking out right now.”

From an outside perspective, it’s honestly kind of surreal... and low-key terrifying.

Hina calmly pressed her right hand over her rebellious left, smiling as if it were nothing.

“Oh, that’s just Kannagi trying to stop . He’s dying of embarrassnt.”

“Maybe... maybe cut him so slack?”

“Nope. He’s the one acting all mature, so this is what he gets.”

GABIIIN!—his left hand froze stiff.

I figured I should probably step in before poor Nagi gets humiliated any further.

“I know Nagi’s not so perfect person.”

Hina looked over at in surprise. Just for a second, I caught a glimpse of blue in her eyes.

So Nagi was listening from inside—and judging by that reaction, my words caught him off guard.

I went on, keeping my voice gentle.

“He gets hurt just like anyone else. And more than that... he genuinely appreciates seeing and experiencing the world we live in now. I can tell he’s enjoying it.”

People I once thought of as flawless always turned out to be struggling with their own doubts. They were more human than anyone else.

Back in our original world, both Senpai and Kazuki were like that too.

“And the sa goes for you, right, Hina?”

“...Yeah. I’m really happy to be here right now.”

Hina spent centuries alone in the dark.

To see her smiling now, standing here like this despite everything... it honestly ans the world to .

“Grua~...”

Behind , Blurin let out a wide yawn.

Guess the fruit made him sleepy.

If we stick around much longer, we’ll just keep him up. Might be ti to head back to the dorm.

I reached over to gently pat Blurin’s head, then stood up.

“Well then, Hina. Let’s head back.”

“...I wouldn’t mind chatting a bit longer...”

She looked up at with a hint of reluctance in her expression, so I held out my hand to her.

“We’re having a welco dinner for Milia and Miss Bell. Alec’s probably gone all out with the cooking too. You should co.”

“...If that’s the case, then yeah—I’ll go.”

Twitching her fox-like ears and gazing up at with those violet eyes, Hina took my hand and stood.

And like that, the two of us began walking together, back to the dorm where everyone would be waiting in the dining hall.
