KIERAN

Four months later

I woke with a jolt, heart slamming against my ribs like soone had punched awake.

The bed was empty on her side.

No warmth. No soft breathing. No Genesis.

My brows drew together instantly. We’d both lain down for a quick afternoon nap, her curled into , belly huge now, almost due, my hand resting protectively over the swell. She’d been exhausted lately, glowing but tired, and I’d kissed her forehead and told her to sleep.

Now she was gone.

I sat up fast, sheets pooling around my waist.

"Genesis?"

Nothing.

The room was quiet.

That bad feeling hit like ice in my veins.

I threw the covers off, yanked on sweatpants, didn’t bother with a shirt, and ran out of the bedroom. Bare feet slapped against the floor as I took the stairs two at a ti and reached the living room.

Daisy sat cross-legged on the rug, playing with blocks, Michelle toddling beside her, giggling every ti she made a tower fall.

Alia was napping on the couch, head tilted back, mouth slightly open.

Michelle saw first.

"Dada!"

He wobbled toward , arms up.

I scooped him up automatically, his chubby hands imdiately grabbed fistfuls of my hair and yanked.

"Where’s Mommy?" I asked Daisy, voice low but urgent.

Daisy looked up, innocent.

"She went out."

My stomach dropped.

"Where?"

Daisy shrugged.

"I asked if I could go with her and she said no. Said she’d be back soon."

I set Michelle down and he started crying imdiately.

Eliana appeared from the hallway, frowning.

"What’s wrong?"

I handed Michelle to her, he wailed louder, waking Alia.

"Genesis isn’t here," I said, already pulling my phone from my pocket. "Daisy said she went out."

Alia sat up, rubbing her eyes.

"She said she was going to get sothing from a store. Didn’t say what."

I hit Genesis’s na on the call screen.

Straight to voicemail.

"Fuck."

I called again.

Voicemail.

Third ti.

Voicemail.

Eliana bounced Michelle, trying to soothe him.

"Let’s calm down. She’s probably on her way back."

I paced, three steps, turn, three steps.

Forty-five minutes dragged by.

Making it an hour and a half since she left.

No Genesis.

No text.

No call.

I was officially in crazy mode, my chest tight, pulse roaring in my ears.

Alia stood.

"Should we call the police?"

"No."

Then I rembered.

I opened the tracking app on my phone, the one I’d put on her phone the day I got her one. Always on.

The map loaded.

Her location pin blinked.

My blood went cold.

She was at the Caldwell Estate.

What the hell was she doing there?

Alia’s eyes widened when she saw my face.

"Kieran... what’s wrong?"

I didn’t answer.

I ran out the front door imdiately, I didn’t care that was barefoot, or shirtless, keys already in my hand.

Eliana and Alia rushed after .

"Where is she?" Alia demanded.

"The Caldwell Estate."

Alia’s face drained of color.

"Genesis wouldn’t go there by herself."

Exactly.

That place... it holds too many bad mories.

I yanked open the driver’s door of the car.

"I’m coming," Alia said, climbing in the passenger seat.

I floored it.

The tires screeched.

The gate opened too slowly and I fucking nearly took it out.

Sothing was very, very wrong.
