One week later
"This is Camila Jay, reporting live from the Caldwell residence in Manhattan, where federal agents have just executed an arrest warrant on prominent socialite Monica Caldwell."
The cara panned slightly to show the grand brownstone’s front steps, now cordoned off with yellow tape. Uniford FBI agents flanked the doorway as Monica, hands cuffed behind her back, head held high despite the disheveled silk robe and bare feet was led out by two agents. Her face was pale, lips pressed into a thin line, but she didn’t speak or look at the caras. Flashes popped relentlessly from the dia pack pressed against the barriers.
Camila’s voice remained steady, professional, asured, exactly how seasoned reporters delivered high-stakes breaking news without sensationalizing trauma.
"Monica Caldwell, stepmother to heiress Genesis Caldwell-Blackwood, has been taken into custody on federal charges including conspiracy to commit sexual assault of a minor, child endangernt, and accessory after the fact to repeated instances of child sexual abuse. These charges stem from an ongoing FBI investigation into decades-old allegations of systematic abuse facilitated by forr pediatrician Dr. Aiden Reeves, who remains missing and is presud deceased."
She paused briefly as agents guided Monica into the back of a black SUV. The door closed with a heavy thud.
"Sources close to the investigation confirm that the case was built on authenticated VHS tapes—over two hundred in total—digitized and anonymously delivered to the FBI in multiple packages over recent weeks. The recordings allegedly depict Reeves drugging and assaulting young girls during what were docunted as routine dical examinations. Handwritten logs and financial records tie Monica Caldwell directly to the sche: her signature appears on consent forms for the ’treatnts,’ and canceled checks show quarterly paynts to Reeves involving heavy sedation, to which many victims attribute their lack of mory of the assaults."
Camila’s tone stayed factual, careful, never graphic, always centering the systemic failure rather than lurid details. She knew the rules: protect survivors, avoid re-traumatization, let evidence speak.
"An explosive investigative report published by the Tis Herald three days ago based on leaked copies of those sa logs, paynt records, and guardian requests—ignited widespread public outrage and appears to have accelerated law enforcent action. The article, which anonymized victims as ’Patient G.C.’ and focused on institutional failures at St. Brielle morial Hospital, has already prompted additional survivors to contact authorities."
The cara cut back to Camila, her expression somber.
"Monica Caldwell has denied all allegations, with her attorney calling the charges ’a baseless vendetta fueled by dia sensationalism.’ She will be arraigned later today. Her sons, Mark and Jimmy Caldwell, have not been charged at this ti, though sources indicate investigators are examining their potential knowledge or involvent during the relevant period when they were teenagers living in the household."
She glanced toward the house one last ti.
"This developing story has shocked the city and renewed calls for accountability in long-buried cases of child abuse. We’ll continue to follow developnts. Back to you Fred."
The feed cut.

In the quiet living room of the Blackwood estate, the large TV screen flickered with the tail end of Camila’s sign-off. Genesis sat on the edge of the couch, knees drawn up, still in one of Kieran’s oversized black hoodies that swallowed her fra. Donald, thinner now from his treatnts but sitting upright with more color in his cheeks, watched beside her.
The room was silent except for the low hum of the television and Daisy’s soft breathing from where she napped next to Donald.
Donald reached over slowly and muted the screen.
Genesis stared at the frozen image of Monica being led away, cuffed, defeated.
Donald’s voice was rough but warm. "I’m proud of you, Genesis."
Genesis turned to him, eyes filling instantly. Tears spilled over before she could stop them, but she didn’t really care about the news "You’re... not angry? With ? I shot him. I almost...."
Donald wrapped one arm around her shoulders, pulling her gently against his side. She didn’t resist; she leaned in like she’d been waiting for permission to break.
"No," he said quietly. "It took by surprise, yeah. Scared the hell out of when they called. But I know my boy. And I know you. That wasn’t anger or hate in your hand—it was pain. Years of it, exploding out. You didn’t an to kill him. And thank God you didn’t."
He squeezed her shoulder. "Kieran’s a fighter. Always has been. He pushed through every round of my treatnt when I told you both to give up. Kept telling to hold on for the grandkid. Now it’s his turn. He’ll pull through. Just like he kept pushing for . We Blackwoods don’t go down easy."
Genesis let out a shaky sob, burying her face in his shoulder. "I thought I lost him. I thought I’d taken him from Daisy... from you... from all of us."
"You didn’t," Donald murmured. "You’re still here. He’s still here. And that fire in you, the one that just put Monica in cuffs? That’s the sa fire that’ll help him heal. You’re not alone in this anymore."
She nodded against him, tears soaking his shirt and turned to the screen
On the muted screen, the news ticker rolled: BREAKING: Socialite Monica Caldwell Arrested in Decades-Old Child Abuse Conspiracy, FBI Cites Leaked Evidence in High-Profile Case.
Genesis lifted her head, wiped her eyes with the sleeve of Kieran’s hoodie.
Donald smiled faintly. "Your reporter friend did good work."
Genesis’s voice was small but steady. "She did. And now... Mark and Jimmy are next."
Donald’s grip tightened protectively. "One battle at a ti, sweetheart. First, we get my son ho. Then we finish what you started."
Genesis looked back at the screen, where Monica’s face flashed one last ti before the broadcast cut to comrcial.
She exhaled slowly.
She was going to make sure that everyone who ca after her and her family would pay with their life. It started with Monica but it was not going to end there.
