Chapter 67
Angel and Divine Construct
"It seems the stationed witches have launched a large-scale battle against the heretics."
When Lucy turned around, Lower Steward Karen had already walked up beside her.
"Senior Karen." She placed her hand on her chest and saluted, saying, "How did you determine that?"
Karen's gaze swept over the carts covered with black cloth downstairs. "The report used the term 'contaminated ones' instead of 'enchanted beasts'. Besides, Lady Lilith and Lord Hyde led the iron crows out of the tower two days ago. Aside from a purge of heretics, I can't think of any other possibility."
Lilith was in charge of the library, while Hyde was responsible for the tower's security. These two peak apprentices rarely left the Tower of the Four Sages.
And the last ti they had left was also because of the Golden Cult.
Bishop Woven had revealed that there was still a Golden Cult church within the Principality of Kolo. Could it be that Lilith went to deal with this so-called church?
But why were so many corpses being transported back? At a glance, there were more than twenty carts covered with white cloth, with an iron crow standing on each one.
Moreover, divine contamination was different from magical energy enchantnt. It did not cause organ mutation in ordinary people but instead sacrificed their lifespan until complete exhaustion.
Such corpses held no practical value for witches.
"Because of angels." After hearing Lucy's doubts, Karen said in a deep voice:
"Angels?!"
"Claws of evil gods. It seems that the church that infiltrated the Principality of Kolo this ti is not ordinary." He lowered his voice. "Don’t look at like that, I’ve only heard the adults ntion angels. I only know they are condensed from faith and divine power."
"Let’s return to the morgue. Those corpses will arrive soon."
Lucy returned to Morgue No. 66. As soon as she finished putting on her plague doctor mask and apron, she heard a series of banging noises from the tal pipe leading to her room.
Filled with curiosity about these angels, Lucy impatiently lifted the black cloth on the tray. A completely naked female corpse appeared before her eyes.
No, not female.
Lucy spread the legs apart, then examined the Adam’s apple and chest, but found neither primary nor secondary sexual characteristics.
"It seems angels have no gender distinction." This indeed aligned with what Karen had said about them being ford from faith and divine power.
The wings on these angels' backs were also different from the gaudy ones of the banshees; they were pure white and fluffy like snow.
Golden blood flowed from various wounds of different sizes on the body. The jade-like skin was covered in golden patterns, the beautiful exterior forming a strange contrast with the twisted expression.
She first collected so of the golden blood, then silently called in her mind: "System."
Blue light spots began to float above the corpse.
Soon, two faint light spots paused respectively on the forehead and the lower abdon.
However, unlike her usual approach, Lucy deliberately avoided the two enchanted organs and instead began to study how angels differed from ordinary humans.
Heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys — Lucy removed these organs one by one from the angel’s abdominal cavity.
Next was the intestinal tract... but there were no digestive remnants inside, and no microbial flora was found even under the microscope.
Lastly, she examined the respiratory system and nervous system.
When the angel was completely disassembled and laid out on the dissection table, Lucy discovered that apart from the pair of snow-white wings, there was actually no difference between angels and ordinary humans.
Yet, as she stood before the disassembled angel, she felt a faint sense of incongruity.
Clearly, every organ was in its proper place, but it still gave her a feeling that sothing was slightly off.
At that mont, her peripheral vision caught the large glass jar placed in the corner of the morgue, containing a semi-finished 'Lucifer'.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind like lightning.
She took out the high-power magnifying lens borrowed from ntor Fernando and began to carefully examine the junctions of these angel organs one by one.
Under the high magnification, the tiny suture marks at the organ connections were fully exposed.
After several minutes, Lucy confird her suspicion.
These so-called 'angels' were actually assembled piece by piece. The seemingly complete sets of hearts, livers, spleens, lungs, kidneys... did not co from a single body but were pieced together from the organs of several or even dozens of bodies.
"If this line of reasoning holds, could these so-called 'angels' also be classified as a type of construct — divine construct?!"
Aside from these patchwork organs, Lucy also discovered an original component of these angels: a golden crystal, about the size of a fingertip, extracted from the center of the forehead.
This crystal appeared utterly ordinary, showing no magical energy fluctuations or magical veins.
Had the system's blue light not stayed on it, Lucy might have entirely overlooked it.
She studied the crystal on the experintal table for a long ti, but could not figure out its chanism. Just as she was considering whether to consult ntor Fernando, a sudden thought struck her.
She took down the preservation jar from the shelf, which contained the remains of the 'Saint Radiance Beetle'. When the crystal approached the jar, the corpse inside began to slowly squirm as if it had co back to life.
This discovery greatly increased Lucy's interest in the crystal.
Through experintation, she found that whenever the crystal got close to the beetle or the dissected Saint Radiance Mark, it would activate them.
From this, it seed the crystal functioned similarly to a magic stone, except that the latter stored magical energy, while this one stored divine power.
She imdiately knocked on several other morgue rooms on the second floor and purchased over twenty angel crystals at the price of one magic stone each.
Just as she was about to return to her dormitory to study whether the Saint Radiance Mark could be activated through the divine power crystal, she suddenly recalled sothing.
She threw that piece of angel skin into the glass jar containing the flesh construct.
"Use this for now. When there's a chance, I’ll get you sothing even better... Don’t you dare digest it!"
Lucifer hesitated for a mont. A trace of uncertainty flashed across the face that resembled Leticia by seventy to eighty percent. However, under the control of the master-servant contract, it obediently draped the skin over its body.
In an instant, the previously grotesque monster with exposed organs transford into a completely naked angel.
Lucy then tossed in the plague doctor mask.
"Put it on. Don’t let anyone see you."
If that Tier-6 witch apprentice found out she had assembled a flesh construct that looked just like his wife, he might well co after her with his life.
After ordering Lucifer to stay obediently in the morgue, Lucy, who had been secluded there for nearly half a month, finally returned to her dormitory.
She washed off the sll of blood and her fatigue. Feeling refreshed, Lucy sat on the chair in her white undershirt, bare legs swinging, while playing with the divine power crystal and the Saint Radiance Mark between her fingers.
When Orphievia pushed open the door and entered, Lucy had just caught a faint pattern of energy resonance.
"Finished your experint?" the elegant black-haired girl asked softly.
"Finished." The white-haired girl lazily spun the crystal between her fingers. "How’s your Law of Ti research going? Haven’t been slacking off, have you?"
Orphievia kicked off her boots and sat across from Lucy, her feet in the tower’s standard gray long socks.
"The texts Tower Master brought back are difficult to understand... but," she suddenly leaned forward, her eyes shimring, "my ntal strength has reached 8.6, senior sister!"
The crystal slipped from Lucy's fingertips and fell with a clink.
The witch’s ntal strength was rising too fast. Even after two cycles of her own ditation thod, she was only at 15.6 ntal strength. At this pace, Orphievia would soon surpass her.
"Is it too late to beg for rcy now?"
"Don’t you think it’s a bit late to surrender at this point?"
Lucy’s flattering smile froze.
She shoved Orphievia onto the bed.
Threateningly, she said, "I advise you to be sensible. Don’t forget your ntal strength is still only half of mine!"
"You better not let surpass you! Wait! I haven’t showered yet!"
