(From Dion's Perspective)

I spent as much ti as possible with Bree. She had gotten over the initial shock and was not crying herself to sleep anymore. Father also ca to check on her multiple tis at night. During dayti, it was Mum who tried to be with her.

"I thought I was really good at defending myself. But he was too strong," Bree said over dinner one night.

"You are strong for your age. However, he is much older, bigger and stronger," Mum said.

"You are still growing. You can beco much stronger than him and most people as your body develops and you practice more. It takes ti," Father explained. Father had been acting very gentle with Bree. He was also worried about her, which was a side that was rare to see in Father.

"I wish I beco so strong that no one can hurt ," Bree said.

Mum nodded. "That's a good spirit, darling. I know you can do it."

Mum wanted to sleep with Bree in her room, but Bree refused. She said she wanted to deal with it on her own.

I actually kept guard half the night at the door of her room. There were other guards, of course, now assigned to guard her all the ti, but I wanted to make sure everything was alright with my own eyes.

Unlike other royal family mbers, none of us had guards except for Mum. Mum did not need them, but she still kept Perita and Calix close just because they had been with her for a long ti. When she was defenseless, Perita and Calix guarded her. Their relationship was more of a friendship now.

For now, General Calix would guard Bree. Father thought Mum would assign General Perita to do it.

"Perita is reckless and childish. Bree is like that too. If they both are together, they will do dangerous things and cause trouble. Sure, Perita can protect Bree just fine, but the trouble the two of them will cause… It's better if Calix does it. At least, he is responsible," Mum said.

"You have a point there," Father agreed with her.

Tonight, we were having dinner together in the dining hall. We usually had dinner together. Lunch and breakfast were not possible to have together all the ti. Mum woke up later than all of us, so it was usually Father, Demian, Bree and I who had breakfast together. I was not ho all the ti for lunch. Father also were not ho everyday at that ti.

Bree had lunch most of the ti with her friend Kiara. Kiara was Bree's nanny's daughter. Bree's nanny (Mum was suffering from postpartum depression, so could not care for Bree. Besides, Bree refused to be with Mum unless she fed her) took care of her until she was ten. Then, she took a fall and hurt her hips and legs bad. So, she stayed at ho now.

Her daughter Kiara was of the sa age as Bree, so they played together. Usually, Kiara ca over at the palace. So, it was just Demian and Mum who had lunch together. When Demian was not sleeping or studying, he spent his ti in Mum's office or following her wherever she went. He was always the clingy one. He was also very jealous, although he tried not to show it.

When he was a kid, he would ger jealous if Mum gave more attention than him.

Father and Mother sat side by side as usual at the head of the table. Bree and I sat opposite each other near them. Father was buttering a toast for Mum. Father did not eat anything on toasts. He liked them just bare of any toppings. Mum laughed about it all the ti.

I also found it rather ridiculous.

"Demian sent a letter saying I should train harder," Bree said, stabbing her fork into her steak, "when he doesn't move his body unless he is forced. He is being too much because you coddle him all the ti."

"Coddle him? Baby, I coddle all of you."

Bree grumbled under her breath. A few days ago, she expressed her feelings to Abel who refused her obviously. Since then, Bree had been thinking about Abel a lot less than she used to. It was Mum's idea that she told Abel about her feelings so she could let go of her one-sided crush.

I was glad that I did not have to hear about her so-called love all the ti. It was not like she told about it. I just read her mind. It was hard to block soone's thoughts when you could read everyone's minds, well, almost everyone's. I had no idea how Father managed it or how he had not gone mad.

So days, those thoughts were so ridiculous that I had to work hard not to tell them off about it or laugh about it.

"Anyway," Mum said, "how are you and Calix going along?"

"Fine," Bree said. "He is so serious."

'That's the reason he is your guard,' Mum thought.

"Yeah, he is, isn't he? But he is good at his job," Mum said.

"Why couldn't it be soone younger, not married and…?"

"I am not having a pregnant twelve-year-old daughter," Father said. "If you get pregnant, I am never considering you to get the throne."

"I was just joking, Father!"

"Don't joke about that," Father said.

"I don't like children anyway. They cry so much and kinds ugly too," Bree said.

"Newborns are ugly," I said.

"Yeah. When you were born, I was confused if you were even human," Father said to Bree. He could not say the sa about since he had not been present at my birth. He was dying at that ti. Mum had to manage everything on her own. Sure, Evan helped.

But in the end, it was Mum who did the most work in Father's absence.

"By the way, Evan is arriving tomorrow," Mum said. "He won't bring his wife again. I don't know what the hell he is doing. I an, I wanted to et her for the last sixteen years and he did not bring her here not even once. Even all the tis I had been at Trouvaille, his wife had not been at the palace. I'm pretty certain he is doing this on purpose."

"Maybe his wife looks like you and he doesn't want you to misunderstand," Father joked, but then he looked at imdiately. Only I saw Evan's wife. Father probably saw the truth on my face as his eyes darkened.

"You saw her, didn't you, Dion?" he asked, looking straight at . Under his gaze, I felt like a mouse in a trap.

"I feel sick," I said and stood up. "I will excuse myself."

I left so hurriedly that I almost tripped over the leg of my chair. I had to leave. Father looked like he could kill at the mont. I could not lie to him, neither could I tell him the truth. Escaping was the only option, even though it ant only agreeing with him.
