(From Blue's Perspective)
"You know what you are. Then why? Why do you still act like the Queen of a pathetic kingdom when you can be the Queen of the world? Why do you have to do the job of a wife and a mother? That's not the life for you. That's not a life for any of us.
You were born to be by my side, to rule the world. That kind of puny life is for the weak ones."
I shook my head. Soone needed to get his voice out of my head. I just could not bear it anymore. All day long, all night long, his voice would disturb . It started when I caught the fever. Now that it had been two months and the fever was long gone, the voice did not leave .
"Are you alright, Your Highness? You look like you feel from a horse," Perita asked.
"Give a massage, Perita. My neck hurts," I said.
Perita massaged my shoulders while I worked and watched over Dion who was playing with a toy lion that Evan gave him. Dion could now sit and almost crawled. Dem and I were certain that he would start crawling within this month.
Our baby boy recovered from the deadly fever that killed almost forty percent of the people who were affected. Dem had not caught it till the end despite being near us all the ti.
Dion was sitting on the floor, by the window and only a little away from , between many cushions. We placed him in a way so he could watch trees if he wanted to. Dem and I never let him out of our sight, except if it was Luc or Ruby. Evan was trustworthy too, but he did not have ti to co here. He had co once when Dion was sick, but could not et us. Only Dem t him that day.
We sotis left Dion with Perita, but it was not too often as Perita could only protect him and look after him, but could not take care of him. For example, she had no idea what to do in case Dion vomited or peed.
"Your Highness, Lady Rose is here," a maid announced.
"Let her in," I said.
A woman with short hair and a rather strong physique entered the room. She looked gloomy. A toddler was with her.
"Good morning, Your Royal Highness," she said and did a curtsy. The toddler followed clumsily.
"Good morning, Lady Rose. Take a seat," I said. "And how is little Dela doing?"
"I'm good…," Dela mumbled.
She probably did not rember that well. I had not seen her in a while. Kids tend to forget people they did not et in a while.
"Your Highness, I have sent you countless letters which might or might not have reached you."
"No, they all reached ," I said.
"Then, I imagine Your Highness was busy…"
"I was busy. I am always busy, but that is not why I did not reply. I rely ignored them," I said.
"Your Highness…"
"I know what you want, Lady Rose. But can you imagine what kind of danger Flint put myself and my unborn child into by betraying my trust?" I asked sharply and then pointed at my son. "This child almost lost his life. And you want to forgive him?"
"Your Highness, I know he has done wrong. But is there no way…? We can try to pay fine if…"
"Fine? My son's life is not worth any amount of money, Lady Rose. Do not cross the limit. I have showed your husband rcy because he has helped a lot before. If I had acted on impulse, you wouldn't be here begging for his life and rather would just put flowers on his grave."
"My daddy…?" Dela muttered.
"Darling, don't talk now," Lady Rose said.
"I did not want to talk this way with her around. But trust , Lady Rose, your husband has been showed as much rcy as possible. The King literally wants him dead and if it was not for , he would have been dead by now."
"Is there no way, Your Highness?" she muttered.
"No," I said. Honestly, it hurt to see her like this. But not enough to make want to forgive Flint. I could not. There was no people I could forgive if they wanted to hurt my family.
She got up, which I assud was to leave. However, the next mont, she suddenly fell to her knees on the ground. I was so surprised to see a headstrong woman like her do it. I had never expected so.
"Please, Your Highness. I beg of you. Please give him one more chance, for the sake of and my daughter. We are nothing without him," she sobbed.
I got up and took my son in my arms from the ground. I knew I would get swayed, so I took my son in my arms to remind myself what might have happened if I had not been able to escape that day. My son would have died before being born. Even if I had sohow survived, I would have lost my purpose of life. Looking at my son, I could never forgive Flint.
But then again, he also helped escape. He said he knew he would be able to help , even though he betrayed .
Flint was not sorry that he did it. He said so many tis. He did so to protect his family.
"He did it for us… for our daughter," she said. "Dela was taken away. Your Highness, would you have not done the sa thing? Would you have not risked everything for the sake of your son? You have a child now. You should understand the feeling."
I would have done so as well. His actions could be justified by soone who was not .
"But that doesn't an I am required to forgive him. I can hold him guilty if I want to, because I have all the right. When he did it, he knew it. If I had not done it to soone, the other party would have the right too, to hate and hold guilty. Risking soone else's life to save soone you love could be justified if you could get away with it. He could not.
You cannot ask to forgive him for the sake of your daughter. For the sake of my son, I have all the right to not and never forgive him," I said.
"But I will think about it. Because I loved him. I loved him as my brother, my helper. And I love Dela. I love this little girl. I care about your family.
I have always done it. So, I will give it a thought."
"Thank you, Your Highness. Thank you very much," she said, almost too happily, as she sobbed more.
"Get up. Just do not expect too much. I am not so kind," I said.
She got up and bowed. "Your Highness, just give it a thought. I will not co to you again, regardless of the choice you make. I admit he should be punished. But I am still being selfish, because just like you, I also love my family a little too much."
I gave Dela a bag of candies and a toy cat. I had bought countless for Dion. He had not even touched more than half of them. It was not his fault. The poor child did not have enough ti to play with all of them.
Now that I thought about it, my son would probably be satisfied with just a plant. He could look at it all day without getting bored, unless he rembered that he had not been fed.
"I will go to Flint's cell, Perita. Co with ," I said.
"Even if Your Highness doesn't say so, I would follow you anyway."
"I can say no, and you are not to follow then," I said.
"I said if Your Highness doesn't say anything, it ans I am to follow you. But if you say no, that's a different story," she said.
"If you are so obedient, then bring your brother to my office this afternoon."
"Not him, Your Highness! Just no!"
"Calix has been sent on a mission. Don't be ridiculous, Perita. I need soone else to be by my side and I think your brother is a good choice."
I walked with Dion in my arms while Perita kept rambling on by my side.
"I can protect you well enough, Your Highness. There is no one else needed."
"I don't need anyone to protect , Perita. But I still want to have at least two knights. Sotis, I will need to leave Dion with you. And I cannot just have one knight to protect him, Perita."
"I can protect the prince alone just fine."
"I don't need 'just fine'. I need certainty."
"I am certain."
"But I am not."
"How can you not trust in my abilities, Your Highness? Have I not proved myself worthy?"
"Perita, don't argue and just listen to ."
