Chapter 53:
You Hit The Muzzle Yourself
"In light of today's events, gan, how do you plan to explain yourself?"
In the office, Aiden tapped the desk with a poker face, questioning the prison guard gan, who kept her head low at the desk.
Or should i say, forr prison guard.
Upon hearing the "good news" brought by Veronica, Aiden's imdiate response was to suspend gan for investigation.
"Well, you see..." gan was already sweating when she was brought in, she forced a smile under Aiden's interrogation.
"I apologize. It was my oversight... inadequate ability. I sohow missed the contraband hidden by the inmate. Thanks to the insightful warden, it was promptly rectified."
Veronica, who was leaning against the office door monitoring her, cast a disdainful glance at gan.
Having been obstructed by gan before, she knew this person was now full of nonsense. However, since Aiden was the one questioning, she remained silent, her primary duty being to oversee the interrogation, and only speaking when Aiden needed additional information.
"You Missed it?" Aiden raised an eyebrow. "A blanket, a box with compartnts, even the biscuits in the iron bucket are mixed with powdered dicine. How many pounds do all these drugs weigh collectively? You missed all that? Are those two things on your face glass marbles?"
"Yes, yes, you are right," gan nodded repeatedly, wearing the standard corporate apologetic smile when scolded by the boss.
"A seasoned prison guard, yet so unprofessional. Doesn't sound convincing, does it?"
"I was negligent. I am willing to accept any punishnt."
Smoothly attempting to downplay the situation, gan sought to transform the essence of the matter into a simple lapse in duty, perhaps just criticism and self-reflection, or a pay cut. Even dismissal, for her, would be a stroke of luck.
But if we delve into the issue of her accepting bribes, the nature of the matter changes entirely.
Aiden stared at her for a while, then slowly spoke, "Alright, after facing the consequences, you must learn from this. Be more attentive in the future and ensure incidents like this don't happen again."
"Yes, yes," gan quickly nodded and bowed, simultaneously breathing a sigh of relief.
Given the severity of her actions, internal disciplinary asures were akin to a slap on the wrist.
Fortunately, this young man was relatively easy to fool—gan thought so, but Aiden suddenly changed his tone, "...you think that's what I would say?"
gan's face suddenly changed. She looked up in surprise, eting Aiden's cold expression.
"When I first entered this prison, I heard about your reputation. gan, many people know what you've been doing. Franda knows and too I know it.
I've wanted to deal with you for a long ti, just haven't found enough evidence to pin you down."
Aiden stared at her and said hauntingly, "Unexpectedly, this ti you hit the muzzle of the gun yourself, and quite hard at that.
Colluding with inmates to bring in so many contraband drugs into the prison, even without bribery, this alone could land you in there for quite so ti."
gan's heart raced, but years of experience in the workplace helped her maintain composure.
"Ahaha... Warden, what are you talking about?" She awkwardly laughed, spreading her arm, "It was just a lapse on my part! Is it necessary to take it to this extent? You... don't have to target
just because you don't like , right?"
"I don't go after anyone just because I don't like them. I'm a fair person. I only go after those who try to go after ." Aiden coldly watched her act,
"Recently, there's been a circulation of drugs in the prison under my managent, causing chaos. Now, looking at it, it seems you're the one who introduced the drugs. Isn't this you trying to go after ?"
"I... I admit, I admit I took so small advantages before. But now I've changed!" gan raised her hands, taking a step back, "I can handle big matters properly, I—"
However, Aiden cut off her sophistry with a single sentence, "Enough, both under your command have already confessed. You confiscated the bribes from the items, gave them a small portion to keep quiet, and then put the items containing drugs untouched into the already inspected basket."
"They... they—" gan stamred, but finally ca up with an excuse, "They're trying to shift all the bla onto ! They are—"
But Aiden didn't let her finish, "You were in charge on-site. If you persist, I'll have Veronica co over and search you. If you're innocent, there shouldn't be the sa bribes on you as they confessed to, right?"
gan froze on the spot.
"Face reality, gan, you're done for." After a long silence, Aiden spoke softly, "Whether or not you know what the inmates hid is irrelevant. Accepting bribes and allowing contraband drugs to circulate is enough to convict you.
You're a prison guard, you should understand that. Don't struggle, it'll only make you more embarrassed."
He stood up from his seat, circled the desk, and looked directly into her eyes, "Honestly, I don't sympathize with you at all. But soone is causing trouble in my prison, and I don't want to spend too much ti dealing with a small pawn like you. If you can save
so ti, I can help you negotiate a surrender plea with the prosecutor."
This ti, gan couldn't hold on any longer.
Her mouth trembled for a few monts, and finally, she put on a mournful expression.
She collapsed on the ground, holding her head, and began to wail.
"Enough, you'll have plenty of ti to cry in prison." Aiden looked down at her without rcy, "Answer , who bribed you to bring in the drugs?"
Several minutes later, after the interrogation concluded, Aiden had Veronica call other guards to take the lifeless gan away.
Later, Veronica, who had returned to the scene, saluted Aiden with admiration, "Chief, you really played this well. The source of the drug influx has been cut off."
"It's nothing, just happened to catch on." Aiden waved his hand.
Realizing that drugs were the core of a series of unexpected events, Aiden, relying on experience, sensed that these events were rely smokescreens to divert attention.
The influx of a large quantity of drugs must have a channel. Cutting off this source could solve a series of problems, known as pulling out the roots.
"I an, you actually thought of using my nose to sniff out the drugs." Veronica, sowhat embarrassed, pointed to her own nose, "It's the first ti soone utilized my unique skill in this way."
(Tn: (?? ????°?? ???????? ????°??) )
"After all, I used to work in the Inquisition bureau." Aiden chuckled nervously.
Relying on the inherited mories, he knew that werewolves' sense of sll was comparable to that of hunting dogs.
However, the idea of using Veronica's unique skill to check for drugs ca from his past world, where anti-narcotics police officers used certain animals to inspect customs shipnts.
it's better not to ntion this kind of thing...
