Chapter 282:

Chapter 282: A New Source of Joy

Anne recovered from the sharp pain in her shoulder and glared up at Aiden. "Was this your doing?"

"Aren't you underestimating

a bit? At the very least, I'm the local emperor here," Aiden chuckled. "If I wanted to ss with you, I wouldn't need such petty tricks. You should reflect on who you managed to provoke right after getting locked up."

Anne gritted her teeth, beginning to understand the reason behind her predicant.

"Using violence in prison, and all she gets is one day in solitary?" Anne questioned Aiden, her face dark.

"The severity of punishnt depends on the circumstances. After all, we can't completely rule out the possibility of an accident," Aiden shrugged. "You only got that much for spitting in my face yesterday. What more do you want?"

"Sooner or later, I'll chop that bitch into pieces and use her as fish bait!" Anne spat out fiercely, grinding her teeth.

"There's no sea here," Aiden shook his head. "You should be more worried about whether you'll survive being tornted to death in this prison."

Anne looked up at Aiden, her expression cold and grim. Aiden could clearly sense her mind formulating plans for revenge against him.

"Speaking of which, I have so questions for you," Aiden continued calmly, unfazed. "I read in the files that you were captured by a bounty hunter?"

Anne Drake was an Empire inmate, and the main case files were held by the Empire. The docunts Aiden received were summaries sent over by them, lacking detail.

The description of Anne's capture only ntioned a bounty hunter using a cargo ship at sea to lure out Anne's pirate vessel, then boarding, seriously injuring several pirates, and taking Anne captive. The identity of the bounty hunter wasn't specifically ntioned.

Anne kept her mouth shut, clearly unwilling to cooperate with Aiden's questioning.

Aiden decided to use provocation. "A single bounty hunter wiped out your entire pirate crew? Just how pathetic are you? You must be the laughingstock of all the pirates in the entire Serene Sea."

As expected, Anne imdiately snapped. "It wasn't just one bounty hunter! There were three of them! And they were all Vampires!"

"Oh? Vampires?" Aiden narrowed his eyes, a realization dawning.

He thought for a mont, then probed further. "Was one of them wearing an old-fashioned suit, maybe a monocle? Looked young but dressed like an old gentleman in his fifties?"

Anne recalled, "He wore a cloak, I don't know what was underneath, but that bastard was definitely wearing glasses..." ????Ν??B????

It was Kyle, Aiden was almost certain.

Three high-ranking Vampires wiped out Anne Drake's pirate crew and handed her over to the Imperial Navy. Only two entities could orchestrate such organized action from high-ranking Vampires: the reaper, who controlled the old Blood Moon Cult, or the Vampire Progenitor, Azrael. The reaper clearly had no reason to do such a thing.

It was likely that the bounty hunter who handed Anne over to the Navy was Kyle himself, probably because he was the only one among the three Vampire Prince with a legal identity.

For Kyle, the Progenitor's lackey, to take such initiative, it must have been under the Progenitor's orders.

It seed lissa hadn't just made the Progenitor reveal information about Navia Drake to him; she had also arranged for the Progenitor to provide the bait to lure her out.

Although the Progenitor was cursed, he was still the Saint of the "Death" Authority. anwhile, philia was sealed in prison, rely claiming to be a follower of the "Goddess of Conspiracy." It seed unlikely she alone could compel the Progenitor to do so much.

Aiden faintly sensed that lissa herself likely possessed a status allowing her to converse with the Progenitor as an equal.

If she truly was a being above the rank of Saint, and if she intended to free philia from this prison, stopping her would likely be incredibly difficult.

This could also explain why philia, a Dominator, seed utterly unconcerned about being imprisoned by mortals—because she could break free at any ti.

Aiden shook his head at the thought. This wasn't sothing he could figure out now, and even if he could, he couldn't solve it.

The most important thing now was to tackle the task lissa had arranged for him. Although semi-compulsory, he still needed to seize the Codex Anomos from Drake's hands.

Aiden glanced at the prison doctor, inquiring about Anne's condition with his eyes.

"Just a dislocation, no fractures. Once it's set, it'll heal gradually over a couple of days," the doctor waved a hand. "No need to keep her in the infirmary. Send her back, just make sure she doesn't lift heavy objects."

"Looks like you can still handle so assembly work in the toy workshop. Report for duty tomorrow," Aiden looked at Anne.

"You're making

work while I'm injured?" Anne frowned.

"Criminals don't have the rights of ordinary people. You've already been assigned light duty. Don't push your luck," Aiden replied calmly.

"I won't cooperate anyway," Anne sneered.

"Still fond of the solitary cell you slept in yesterday, are you?" Aiden raised an eyebrow. "You enjoy sleeping next to the toilet that much?"

"Solitary, solitary, that's your only trick," Anne looked at Aiden provocatively. "I'm getting out sooner or later anyway. I don't care if you make

live in solitary."

"If you're going to be this stubborn, I can add continuous restraints," Aiden said, his expression unchanged. "Twenty-four hours a day, hands cuffed behind your back, cuffs chained to a waist belt."

"So what?"

"You won't be saying that when you need to wipe after using the toilet... Oh, wait," Aiden corrected himself. "At that point, you might not even be able to pull down your own pants."

Anne's expression shifted slightly.

Aiden rarely had occasion to use such punishnts; even the old Carmilla would yield when faced with such a threat.

"Also, if you can't get along with your current cellmate, I can arrange another one for you," Aiden continued. "Seeing as you seed to hit it off so well with that violent inmate earlier, how about arranging for you two to live together? By the way, she's probably not even the worst roommate available here."

Anne was speechless.

"Cat got your tongue? Is that all? Looks like you're not quite stupid enough to seek your own demise," Aiden admired the unwilling resentnt on Anne's face, nodding with satisfaction.

Ever since Ophelia and the other difficult inmates had beco well-behaved, it had been a long ti since he'd properly savored the pleasure of breaking such a hard-headed, stubborn inmate until she could only swallow her anger in silence.

Although the Unique Authority in Navia Drake's possession was indeed a problem, the pirate princess currently before him was undoubtedly a source of joy with potential rivaling Ophelia's.

"Sooner or later... I'll kill you!" After a long pause, Anne enunciated each word slowly.
