In the PSF so ti before the bathroom exploded.

“Hey, Reia… Have you ever been to the other world?” I asked her through the glass while chilling of my bed.

I’m still not sure why she spent so much ti in my room. Was she actually doing any work by observing ? Or was she just hanging out? We’ve been having casual conversations like this almost every day through the glass.

“Hmm?” She briefly glanced up from her tablet. “No… Why do you ask?”

“I an, we were talking the other day about how you like complicated stuff, right? You work as a researcher to figure out complex things… You treat wounds because it’s hard… So I figured piecing together the mysteries of the other world would be right up your alley.”

“Yeah… It’s interesting.” That’s it?

“Well… Then, you’re curious about the other side? Why haven’t you gone yet? Let

guess, the people here don’t let you go. Is that it?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “The PSF hasn’t sent anyone to the other world other than a few expeditions when the portals were first discovered. They’ve been drafting a plan for consistent research and expeditions, but it’s been years without a decision ever being made. The situation is not much better anywhere else in the world.”

“Oh…” She talked a lot… I guess she must be really interested. “So you’d like to go, but you haven’t had the chance?”

“Mhmm…” She nodded.

Very reserved response for soone so interested… I sat up on the side of the bed and turned to her. “Have you ever considered sneaking in by yourself? I guess that would be kinda dangero-”

*Booom!*

The ground shook following the sound of a distant explosion. The lights in the room turned red, and a siren went off.

“Woah! Re- Reia!? What was that? Is that normal?” Dumb question. In what world would an explosion be normal?

“I- I don’t know…” Reia’s head snapped to the door. Nothing… Our room was still the sa. The lights turned red, but we weren’t in any imdiate danger. She tapped frantically on her tablet while stepping further away from the door. “Sothing might have broken out of its cell… This only ever happened once… Bu- but it’s fine… It’s shut…” She pointed at the steel door.

“I see…”

Sothing broke out… A monster, right? If there’s a monster on the loose, this might be my chance!

I’ve been slowly regaining my strength over the past few weeks. By now, I’ve almost completely recovered. I’ve only stayed put for so long since the VISS Driver is still acting up, but it’s probably not going to fix itself.

It’d be too dangerous to escape without my skills or my weapons, so I’ve been bidding my ti for an opportunity like this.

Reia staggered back until she was resting against the glass. “I found sothing… It’s three floors down… The guards are already on the way…” She heaved a sigh of relief… Completely oblivious to the wolf behind her.

“Hmm…” You foolish girl… Muahahahah! How are you going to give that info to your enemy that easily?

I’ll take her hostage, force her to give

back my weapons, and make my way out of here! It’s genius! And she can’t even fight back! She had a revolver that one ti, but what are a few bullets going to do to ? She’s just a frail girl!

That, for example, would be the evil route. If we weren’t on good terms, that’s what I would do. But since that’s not the case…

“Hey, Reia, if you’re curious about the other world, how about I take you there?”

“Huh…?” She faced the glass with her mouth half-open.

*Shatter!*

My hand punched through the glass right in front of her eyes.

“Ehh…?! What…?”

“Surprised?” With one hole punched through, making a wider gap was no problem. I walked out through the glass and reached for her wrist. “I’m serious, though. If you’re willing to give

a hand, I can let you study the other world as much as you want.”

“Re- really?” She shrunk back against the corner of the room. Am I really that scary? “How did you break the glass? It’s reinforced many tis… You can’t when you’re weakened by the drugs.”

“Well… I just did it, didn’t I? I didn’t say anything, but one of my magical powers reduced the effects of those drugs by a lot. It’s actually just a skill from the ga. Now, your response? Will you give

a hand?”

“If you let

study you too…” She glanced up from behind the tablet. Th- that’s… kinda cute!

“Yeah. Of course.” Wait… What does that entail? My entrails? “Just don’t make

regret agreeing to that…”

“Hmm?” She didn’t get it. “Either way, I’ll help, so what are you trying to do? You want to escape?”

“Yeah. Of course.”

“Since you broke your glass, the guards now know that sothing happened. What am I supposed to do? Guide you?”

“Yeah. Of course.” I really have to go over every step with this girl… “Oh…. But wait… Do you know where my stuff is? My sword and my gun? I imagine the PSF is probably keeping it sowhere.”

“Ah! We’ve been studying them in a room below… Why?”

“I’m gonna need them if we’re going to make our way out of here. Who do you think is going to protect you?” I poked her forehead then pulled towards the door. “Let’s move out. Can you lead

there first?”

“No problem.”

We left the observation room and went to the floor below us. A lot of heavy security doors closed after sirens went off, turning the whole building into a giant prison. Luckily, Reia had a keycard with her. Thanks to her, we didn’t have any problems getting to the room where my stuff was. It was an observation room just like the one I was being held, only the ones in jail were inanimate objects.

“Can you turn around? I need to put on my dress.”

“Hmm?” Don’t ‘hmm’ , lady. Do I need to explain this too?

“I’m going to change! Hurry up and turn around. They’re looking for us, aren’t they?”

“Ah! Okay…” She finally got it… For a mont I thought she was doing it on purpose. Like she wanted to watch.

I tossed the gown they made

wear to the side and quickly changed. I finally don’t look like I’m sick anymore. I holstered my sword and gun by my waist and tapped Reia’s shoulder.

“Okay… I’m done. Let’s get a move on. Where’s the nearest window? I can get us down safely if it’s not too high.”

“Huh… We may have a problem…” Reia pointed at the door. It was left open after we stepped in. Sliding tal doors like those made a lot of noise, so she left it open.

A shadow passed by then the silhouette of a soldier blocked the entrance. “Why is this open?” The soldier raised his rifle and aid at us. “You’re a researcher, aren’t you? What are you doing here…? And who’s that!?”

“She- she’s… she…” Not a great speaker. Reia froze up and raised her hands. She looked at

over her shoulder. Her eyes watered like she was about to cry.

I get it… It’s hard to think when talking with jumpy people, isn’t it?

I leaned forward and jumped at the soldier, landing a punch on the soldier’s chin. Sigh… What would this girl do without ? “You don’t need that.” I tossed his rifle away, then pinned him down. “Whew… Much better…”

I pressed him down while holding his arms behind his back. “Wh- what are you?! Are you with the intruders?! What do you want?”

“Shh shh shh! I’m the one asking questions.” Now… What to ask…? Is there even anything? I think we have it figured out. “Uhmm… Where’s the exit…? Don’t answer… We’ll find a way… Uhhh… What happened? What was that explosion earlier?”

“Don’t act like you don’t know!” The soldier struggled in vain. “I rember now! You’re that special threat that was brought in the other day. You know what’s going on! You must have called your friends over sohow!”

“My friends…?” I asked. “Do you an Katja and the others? They’re here?!”

“You won’t foll , you monster! You know exactly what’s going on! Just because you look like a human… Humanity will prevail!”

“What are you on about? I’m still human…” Sigh… At least he seems to take his job seriously… “Well, thanks for the info. You can go now!” I pulled him up by the arm and swung him at the nearest wall. That should knock him out.”

“Isn’t that going too far?” Reia asked.

“He’ll recover.” I shrugged. “You heard what he said though, didn’t you? Seems like Katja and the girls from the House are here, so we’re eting up with them. Can you find out where they are?”

“Su- sure… If you give

so ti…” Reia grabbed her tablet.

“Find it on the move. Let’s just go where there’s noise. Co on.”
