Abrielle turned out to be one of the worst students Zoltana could wish for. She really could not grasp the true nature of her magic. It wasn’t that Abrielle was dumb or not resilient, but their natures were very different.

A long sigh left the princess’s lips just thinking about it. "Is anything wrong your highness?" A maid asked her scared she wasn’t satisfied with sothing.

"No, I am fine, just a bit tired," Abrielle answered that there was sothing odd. Abrielle noticed about the maids these few days. They were more uptight and dared not do anything that got on her slightest nerves.

She has no idea of the maid who lost her life for breaking the house rules. Evelyn did not hide the reason why she was killed. She did it so that no one would be dumb enough to repeat it.

Everything was still fresh in her mind, before dawn after the banquet. The loud sounds of a bell in the hallway of the maid’s quarters woke everyone from sleep

"To the courtyard imdiately. Anyone who isn’t there on ti wages would be deducted." The voice of the head maid echoed in the hallway.

Hearing about their wages being deducted did the trick, and everyone was wide awake, rushing to the courtyard. It was roughly two hours before dawn, 4 am on Earth ti and an hour before the maids woke up, so most of them were still wearing their old night wares, and most wrapped their blankets around them because of the cold.

Jubilee, the little girl Abrielle rescued, was no exception; she sluggishly woke up standing from the bed. "We should get moving." She heard her roommate snap at her followed by the sound of the door being slamd shut.

The sound made her jolt backwards. "What do they want now?" Jubilee grumbled, they still had an hour more to sleep before starting the day. Jubilee didn’t have any coat so she had to leave like that.

Shutting the door behind her she got into the chaotic hallway. Rumours were going around about the morning summons, and her ears could not help but overhear so say that the last ti sothing like this happened, a maid had disobeyed the rules, leading to her being fired.

Jubilee’s brows furrowed as she followed the crowd. She knew about the rules they were talking about. The rules about never attempting to see the prince’s face, bedti rules, etc. They were regular rules, while others were a bit strange.

The candles in the hallway flickered as they continued out of the building. It was cold without a doubt. Jubilee was shivering slightly her hands hugging her arms as she continued outside.

Going through the external door that was wide open, she was welcod by the cold morning breeze. Her teeth gnashed a bit; she walked up to the stop where the maids were gathering. Oddly, everyone was quietly looking in a direction, seemingly stunned by sothing.

She glanced over to the middle and almost lost her balance when her eyes fell on the corpse of a maid lying there. The corpse’s lips were still rosy, and she seed like she was crushed. This maid was killed a few hours ago.

Soone stood at her back catching her. "Steady you, it is just a corpse." She heard a maid ntion. It was the lady that was bought with her. Zoltana. "It is pretty cold. You should have taken a coat," Zoltana add, her eyes going back to stare at the corpse of the maid. Zoltana pulled off her coat to wrap around Jubilee.

Evelyn stood by the corpse staring back at everyone with a firm expression. "I don’t have a coat, thanks, but I can manage," Jubilee replied, refusing to accept the coat.

"What happened to your wages?" Zoltana was curious because although Jubilee wasn’t given serious chores, she was still paid equally as other maids despite her age, and it was a good amount for a twelve-year-old.

"I had a lot of expenditures." She answered avoiding the question. Zoltana’s eyes narrowed but she didn’t dwell much on the topic.."you can wear my coat for now. Just have it returned later. "

"Are you not cold?" Jubilee was grateful but she was worried. It was freezing out here so Zoltana must be cold too.."I am better than you." Hearing that Jubilee’s attention went back to the centre of the drama.

Jubilee was surprised how Zoltana didn’t bat an eyelid at what was happening. "Do you understand what he going on?" She overheard another maid whisper.

"I think she broke the rules. Earlier she was assigned to serve the prince." Soone whispered.

"Lower your voice, we will soon know the answer." A firm voice cautioned; it was one of the elderly maids.

Evelyn cleared her throat, drawing everyone’s attention to her, but it wasn’t enough until a bell rang. Finally, the crowd was silent; a woman in her forties walked up to Evelyn’s side, her eyes darting around the crowd.

She was the head maid, Selena; she ran the castle like the lady of the house alongside the butler since the princess had yet to take over. Selena’s main duty was to educate the maid.

"Good morning, everyone," she started her gaze straying to the dead maid; she was a bit disappointed at how dumb the fellow was. Everyone listened cautiously to Selena.

"I know you have a good idea why you are all gathered and I will validate your suspicions. Yes, of course, one of us has broken the rules."

"Her cris were serious; she attempted to seduce the prince, compromised his drink, basically poisoning him and not to forget she looked at his face." Selena listed and she felt the atmosphere get heavy.

"The rules were made for a reason to avoid this and I am sure no one wants to end up this way. She got her punishnt, and the rest of us will have to carry part of the burden, and don’t be foolish to repeat it."

It was simple everything action had a reaction.
