As soon as the words were spoken, Selene Kane turned her head and saw Caleb Shaw’s handso face.

He was wearing a black combat uniform, the insignia on his epaulets shining coldly under the light.

But those eyes were unusually gentle.

The more she looked, the more pleasant he seed.

She thought silently to herself, her fingers unconsciously touching her slightly swollen belly.

It would be nice if the child looked like him.

In the future, holding and kissing the child, squeezing those chubby cheeks, poking those plump little hands, would be more enjoyable than now.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

"Female Master."

Caleb called her softly.

He took a few steps closer, placing the tray on the coffee table, his movents sowhat stiff as he leaned over.

He hadn’t felt any response from her spiritual power, and his heart suddenly felt suspended.

Usually, whenever he approached, she would always release a warm stream of consciousness.

But today, there was nothing.

It must have been because he left temporarily and missed the crucial period of the child’s birth, causing her to be angry.

That day was an ergency, with the front line in crisis.

He had to rush to the battlefield overnight, not even having the ti to say goodbye.

By the ti he returned, the child had already been born safely.

He didn’t know what she was thinking, only learning from others that she was well.

But now...

Her eyes were calm, her smile gentle.

He pressed his lips together, his Adam’s apple slightly moving, then softly explained, "Your Majesty suddenly sent soone to summon , the military orders were urgent, I really couldn’t delay, I had to report to the palace imdiately."

Selene Kane blinked, her long eyelashes gently trembling.

She looked down at her fingers on the edge of the blanket, her fingertips slightly curled, and said quietly, "Following orders is your duty, I understand that, I won’t bla you."

Caleb was taken aback, his body stiffening, unable to react to what she had said for a mont.

His gaze fixed on her face.

Was this the sa person who would throw a fit, sulking and refusing to eat as soon as he left?

The mission had started in a hurry, he didn’t even have the ti to say goodbye.

He had expected to face her cold face upon his return, even prepared to be punished to kneel in the ancestral hall or be grounded for three days.

But unexpectedly, she not only didn’t bla him, but expressed understanding?

A warm and indescribable feeling suddenly filled his heart.

Without thinking further, he stepped forward, slowly kneeling on one knee by the bedside, causing the wooden floor to creak softly.

"Female Master, being your partner is a blessing I have earned over several lifetis."

Having said that, he leaned forward slightly, placing the tray on the small table by the bed.

He carefully picked up the porcelain white bowl of dicinal soup with his gloved right hand.

Gently scooping up a small spoonful, he blew on it until it was at a suitable temperature, then brought it to Selene’s lips.

Selene Kane opened her mouth slightly, sipping cautiously, the warm liquid sliding down her throat.

She swallowed slowly, looking as docile as a cat being petted.

Yet after half a bowl, she shook her head gently, her voice weak as she said, "That’s enough... I really can’t eat more."

The child was a girl, her skin still showing the unique redness and wrinkles of a newborn.

She looked pretty, her features not fully unfurled, but a bit of elegance was already apparent.

Right after giving birth, Selene weakly instructed the doctor, "Wrap her up well, don’t let her catch a chill."

Thus the little one was wrapped tightly in a thick cotton swaddle, only her wrinkled little face exposed.

Her nose was tiny, her lips pink.

Seeing Selene truly didn’t want to eat anymore.

Caleb carefully set down the bowl, afraid a single drop of soup might spill.

He turned his head, lowering it to seriously look at the baby lying in the swaddle.

This child’s eyes were special, with one pupil a faint light green and the other a clear light blue.

Perhaps it was because she inherited Caleb’s green-eyed genes.

But the colors were much lighter, like diluted morning mist.

After all, Selene’s eyes were very light to begin with, nearly transparent gray-blue.

"Why does this kid have one blue eye?"

She finally couldn’t help but speak first.

Although this country had long abolished the notion and assessnt of "infidelity" in determining male and female relationships,

if a child’s appearance clearly didn’t match the father’s, it would still draw gossip among neighbors.

Caleb still held the child steadily, his movents very gentle.

He gazed at his daughter’s face, suddenly recalling the little girl from his dream the night before.

She wore a floral dress, smiling and waving at him, her eyes precisely one green and one blue.

At that ti, he thought it was rely a nightmare, but now, looking back, could it have been a portent given by fate?

Could it be destined that this child would co into his life?

And indeed, be his blood and flesh?

His lips unknowingly curled into a smile.

He gently pulled the child into his arms, cradling her securely.

"She takes after my mother."

He answered softly, his voice tinged with rembrance.

"My mother had blue eyes, the family records state it’s a mark of ancient bloodline."

Upon hearing this, Selene relaxed, nodding slightly.

"Oh, so it’s inherited from a generation apart, that makes sense."

She looked at the child, a tender smile appearing in her eyes.

"It’s rare, but you can see she truly resembles you."

Actually, she was relieved; there was Zane at ho, who also had blue eyes.

If she couldn’t explain why the child’s eye color was different, people might suspect bloodline issues, even leading to unnecessary rumors.

After all, in this world, bloodline wasn’t rely a family honor, but also directly related to social status and resource distribution.

And Zane’s presence was the perfect explanation.

The blue-eyed child wasn’t without roots, but rather a distinctive genetic trait of the family.

Suddenly, she blurted, "System, if I really give birth to a little snake, who would it belong to?"

She didn’t completely distrust the system; it’s just that sotis reality felt too absurd.

"It would belong to Zane, it would look like him."

The system’s voice remained calm and unruffled.

Selene was taken aback, then chuckled wryly.

Asking was pointless.

This system always gave evasive answers or ones that were deliberately vague.

But she couldn’t help but rely on it, especially when it ca to issues involving Outlander physiological structures.

Selene yawned, feeling a bit sleepy.

She had been busy all day, caring for the child and handling various trivial matters, her energy already exhausted.

Her eyelids felt heavy, almost impossible to keep open, but she still forced herself to ask, "Where’s Zane? Why didn’t he co back with you?"

She rembered they left together.

In the past few months, although Caleb wore a perpetually stern face, as if the world owed him money,

surprisingly, he hadn’t been hostile towards Zane.

On the contrary, because of Zane’s outstanding combat skills and rich practical experience, Caleb had assigned him various tasks one after another.

So were border reconnaissance, others assisted in clearing mutant creatures — dangerous missions, but with generous rewards.

Won naturally rejoiced when n could coexist peacefully.
