She spoke, cautiously stepping back half a step.

In the next second, a shadow flashed.

The wind didn’t stir, and the light didn’t sway.

But Caleb was already standing in front of her, so close that she could almost feel the warmth of his breath.

He moved so fast that his actions were almost invisible, as if he’d appeared out of thin air.

She was so terrified that her soul seed to have flown away, a scream stuck in her throat, stepping back several tis.

Zane reacted extrely quickly, making a decision almost the instant Caleb appeared.

He suddenly turned his body, charging up his right fist, spiritual power channeled into his arm.

A swift straight punch aid directly at Caleb’s chest, trying to force him back.

But as the fist approached, barely inches from Caleb’s chest, he casually blocked it with a single finger.

That finger rested steadily against the surface of the fist, not moving an inch.

He grabbed Zane’s wrist with such force that it seed like he was about to crush the bones.

His oddly-colored eyes coldly swept over, as if assessing sothing disgusting.

Even an extra glance seed to dirty his vision.

"This is the kind of person you found?"

Caleb’s voice was low and biting.

"I’m not good enough?"

Zane gritted his teeth, nearly sparking with fury as a surge of electricity exploded from within him, racing up his spine.

He yanked his hand back abruptly, his wrist still marked by the red imprint of restraint.

"Are you more suitable?"

Caleb’s eyes flashed, pupils slightly constricting.

Suddenly, it was as if he understood sothing.

This guy wasn’t mad out of anger, not out of defiance, but out of jealousy.

That little hidden thought now laid bare.

The mockery deepened in his eyes, even a faint curve erged at the corner of his mouth.

"The Female Master allows to live under the sa roof with her, and you," Caleb’s tone was asured, "like a stray dog kicked out, you rolled out in disgrace. Shouldn’t you have realized long ago? You were never ant to be beside her."

Caleb was too lazy to say more, his shoulders shook, his aura suddenly sharp.

He moved decisively and swiftly, without any hesitation, each strike targeting Zane’s vital points.

Throat, heart, temple, all critical spots.

Forcing Zane to dodge clumsily, the punch wind grazed his cheek, causing a stinging pain.

The two grappled with each other, fists and feet clashing, erupting in muffled collision sounds.

Every move was fierce, every move was lethal.

Yet strangely, neither attacked or let the action spill near Selene Kane.

No matter how intense their movents, how swift their steps.

Both deliberately avoided her position.

Zane’s electric arc grazed Caleb’s shoulder armor, leaving a charred mark.

Caleb’s palm wind swept across Zane’s abdon, ripping clothes but unable to penetrate deeply.

Zane grinned, the corner of his mouth cracking open, revealing sharp fangs.

He wiped the blood from his face with his fingers, staining them with the red fluid, slowly wiping it across his lips, chuckling softly.

"Oh, even the proud commander gets jealous of a ’pretty boy’ like ?"

He deliberately dragged out the tone, his voice frivolous.

He raised his eyebrows, eyes suddenly sharp, swiftly moving left and right.

Quickly maneuvering around Caleb, his steps light.

Caleb’s eyelids drooped slightly, too lazy to move, standing like a statue.

His breathing was steady, his aura calm, facing Zane’s rapid approach, not even frowning.

"Boring."

Zane was thoroughly enraged by these words, his chest heaving violently.

His tail suddenly lifted, making a crackling sound.

Five fingers ford claws, nails growing like blades, slicing through the air, fiercely grabbing down.

Fingertips tore through the air, aid directly at Caleb’s throat!

Caleb stood still, not even a strand of hair swaying.

Just as the claws were about to reach him, he suddenly drew his gun.

The gun muzzle flashed silver, moving so quickly it was nearly imperceptible.

Imdiately, he sidestepped, dodging, his movents seamless.

The electric claws grazed his hem, leaving only a blackened tear.

The situation suddenly changed.

The attacker instantly turned into the prey.

Zane sharply turned his head, pupils shrinking, his whole body frozen.

The muzzle, as dark as a void, pointed directly at his forehead, no more than three inches away.

It was like the entrance to an abyss, devouring all vitality.

Behind the gun, those eyes, one red, one green, like eyes from another star.

"Idiot."

Caleb’s voice was calm, without the slightest fluctuation.

Marine Beastn still lingered in the stage of hunting by instinct.

Their senses relied on currents, slls, and vibrations, unable to master complex technological weapons.

This was one of the reasons the Empress never ordered their extermination.

They posed no threat, rely residual primitiveness from ancient tis, insufficient to shake the foundation of interstellar order.

"Bang!"

The gunfire suddenly erupted, tearing through the air.

Smoke slowly drifted from the muzzle, like gray mist, lingering persistently.

Against the dim light, it appeared particularly piercing.

Caleb’s hand was as steady as a rock, motionless.

Zane was violently overturned by the enormous impact.

His back slamd heavily into the ground, emitting a dull crash.

Blood blossod from his chest suddenly, crimson liquid gushing out, soaking his clothes and the ground.

He instinctively raised his palms, pressing tightly against the wound.

But the blood continued to seep out between his fingers.

"Zane!"

Selene scread, her voice full of fright.

Her legs buckled, staggering as she rushed over, her knees slamming into the ground without notice.

She knelt beside him, her hands trembling, desperately trying to cover the bleeding wound with her palms.

It was over, it was over, this was a living saint after all!

She shouted frantically inside, vision going dark.

"Do you care about him?"

Cold voice ca from behind, without a hint of emotion.

Selene stiffened all over, instantly freezing, even her breathing beca stagnant.

Cold sweat slipped from her forehead, down her cheeks.

"Ah? Haha, do I?"

She laughed dryly twice, her voice rough.

"Actually, I worry about everyone the sa..."

She whispered defensively, speaking faster.

She dared not even glance back, afraid Caleb’s gaze might ignite in fury.

The next mont, she’d be swept under the muzzle, without even a chance to plead.

"Click."

The tal chanism clicked softly.

Selene’s heart sank, cold spreading from her feet to the top of her head.

She bit her lip, finally unable to bear it, her voice trembling as she spoke.

"Caleb, what exactly are you trying to do?"

At those words, Caleb’s heart jolted.

The spiritual power already out of control in his body raged wildly.

His temples throbbed, cold sweat seeping from his forehead.

His hand, since the first ti he raised the gun, had never felt so feeble.

The once precise, unwavering, unhesitant hand now trembled slightly.

"You are my Female Master."

He said softly, his voice hoarse as if squeezed from deep within his throat.

Even he couldn’t say why he repeated those words.

Perhaps it was out of resentnt, perhaps out of fear.

Fear she might leave completely.

Just seeing her so intimately with another, it felt as if a piece of his heart had been forcibly torn away.

No matter how much Selene once saw him as a hero, now it was all worn away.
