"Every ti I get close to you, my Beast Core feels like it’s going to explode, and my scales start growing uncontrollably."

Lan Cangming lowered his eyes, his nails digging deep into his palm to force himself to continue speaking. "I’m afraid of scaring you, but I’m even more afraid of losing control."

"So you’d rather clam up and go mute?"

Su An’an pinched Lan Cangming’s chin, lifting his tense face.

Lan Cangming instinctively lowered his eyelids. A strand of his ice-blue hair slid down his forehead, hiding the swirling panic in his eyes.

It was a secret he kept hidden beneath his scales, one more dangerous than any military intelligence.

"What kind of person do you take for?"

Su An’an suddenly let out a soft laugh. Her slender fingers traced slowly down his hard jawline, drawing suggestive circles over his prominent Adam’s apple.

Lan Cangming’s arm jerked, knocking over a teacup. The tea spread into a dark stain on the carpet, but neither of them paid it any mind.

"The next ti you dare to let a secret rot inside you,"

Su An’an suddenly leaned in close, her cherry-red lips brushing against his reddened ear fin, carrying a cloyingly sweet scent.

"I’ll just have to kiss... your... mouth... open."

Her final words were drawn out, laced with an alluring tremor.

A shudder ran through Lan Cangming. His well-defined hand shot out to grip her waist as he leaned forward to kiss her.

"Tell the secret first. Then you get your reward."

Su An’an pressed her hands against his chest as he leaned in, feeling his heart pound violently against her palms.

She suddenly bit her lower lip and chuckled. She pressed her fair fingers to her own flushed lips, then gently transferred the touch to Lan Cangming’s thin ones, leaving a light, moist kiss. "Be good."

Lan Cangming’s pupils contracted sharply. His ear fins shot up uncontrollably, and the dark undercurrents swirling in his eyes were almost enough to drown a person.

He snapped his mouth open, trying to bite those mischievous, fair fingers, but she deftly dodged him.

Su An’an curled her finger and gave him a crisp flick on the forehead. "Behave."

She retreated with a playful pout, the hem of her black dress brushing against the rmaid’s thigh, leaving a faint, sweet, creamy fragrance in the air.

Lan Cangming watched her sit back down on the sofa across from him, the proud curve of her snow-white neck held high. He suddenly felt his throat was drier than it had ever been.

"Well? Speak."

Su An’an raised an eyebrow, a half-smile on her face as she looked at Lan Cangming. "I’m waiting to hear the rmaid Marshal’s little secret!"

Little Pink suddenly started raving in her mind, a screenful of heart-shaped effects exploding above its head.

’Your Highness is so cool! I’d call this fish-taming lesson a universe-class textbook example!’

’Look at Big Fish! His ear fins are flushed with blood, and his tailbone is trembling! His zipper is about to burst!’

Su An’an’s gaze slid uncontrollably downward.

Lan Cangming quickly shifted his posture, grabbing the long-since-cold teacup from the coffee table and downing it in one gulp, only to choke and cough twice.

He said in a deadpan tone, "For us in the rmaid Clan to reach a state of true love with a partner, we must thoroughly study the *rmaid Love Treasure Book* and pass the Tide-Dancing Ritual!"

"Stop, stop, stop!"

Su An’an frowned, tapping her curled fingers on the table. "Stop trying to fool with so academic report. Right now, this instant, open your mouth and speak plainly."

Lan Cangming’s Adam’s apple bobbed a couple more tis, and a rare look of dejection colored his usually cold, hard features.

He took a two-ter-thick, one-ter-wide golden codex from his spatial ring and said in a low voice:

"To put it simply, when a rmaid develops true feelings, they get hurt. The sa goes for their partner. Only by cultivating the *rmaid Love Treasure Book* can they be healed."

"But this Treasure Manual has seven hundred and twenty Chapters, covering all the emotional philosophy from the rmaid Clan’s ten-thousand-year-long civilization. Every single word is imprinted with spiritual power."

"A regular Beastman would get a splitting headache just from opening the first page."

His voice grew quieter. "In the last hundred years, among all the Alien Races who have married rmaids, less than one percent have been able to finish learning it."

’Holy shit!’

Little Pink couldn’t help but complain:

’No wonder the rmaid Clan hasn’t intermarried with other races for a hundred years. This Treasure Manual is practically designed to torture couples from different races.’

"My younger sister, Lan Xi, was married to a mber of the Eagle Clan for five years, and he couldn’t even finish the first Chapter."

"The last ti they failed to synchronize their spiritual power, Lan Xi’s sea of consciousness was nearly torn apart. The Eagle Clan mber was also severely injured, and they had no choice but to break up."

Lan Cangming’s voice broke. "I’m terrified every single day. Terrified that one day you’ll be like her, collapsing in my arms from the pain. So, stay away from . As long as you don’t develop feelings, you’ll be safe."

"And what about you? Just let yourself suffer until your genes degrade?"

Su An’an grabbed his ice-cold wrist.

Lan Cangming forced a bitter smile. "That’s my business."

Before their political marriage, he had been confident he wouldn’t develop feelings. After they were wed, he had detested her arrogance and willfulness.

But then she had protected him while covered in wounds, gently soothing him when he went berserk. Unwittingly, his heart had already fallen for her.

He had brought the pain of his feelings upon himself; he couldn’t drag her down with him.

"You think you can bear this alone just by pushing away?"

Su An’an said angrily, "Facing things together is what a married couple should do! Your self-tornt will only end up hurting both of us."

Lan Cangming stared at the thick Treasure Manual and said in a low voice, "This is just too difficult to learn. I don’t want you to take the risk."

Before Su An’an could speak, the tendrils on Little Pink’s head transford into a blue-light scanner.

’Your Highness, place your hand on the codex. I’ll scan it for you. I guarantee you’ll learn it instantly.’

’Will that work?’

Su An’an hesitated before placing her palm on the golden cover of the *rmaid Love Treasure Book*.

’No problem. Comncing read... Progress at 10%... Wait!’

Little Pink’s eyes widened dramatically as it cried out in shock:

’How is this possible?!’

Su An’an’s sea of consciousness suddenly exploded with a screen full of garbled text.

The ancient characters of the rmaid Clan twisted into serpentine symbols, writhing madly in the depths of her consciousness.

Her head felt like it was splitting apart, and she clutched it in agony.

"What’s wrong?"

Lan Cangming’s pupils shrank. He rushed forward and pulled Su An’an into his arms, blue fish scales rapidly covering the backs of his hands.

"Only the spiritual power of a pure-blooded rmaid can read the Love Treasure Book! An Alien Race trying to cheat will suffer a backlash!"

Su An’an fell to her knees on the carpet, her hands tangled tightly in her hair.

The ancient incantations of the rmaid Clan felt like scorching hot steel needles, densely piercing the depths of her consciousness.

A blinding white light exploded before her eyes. In a daze, she heard Little Pink wailing in her sea of consciousness:

’This isn’t a love manual, it’s a murder weapon!’

’Your Highness, let’s just run for it! This rmaid Clan love quest is impossible for us to beat!’

’No. I have to do this.’

Su An’an suddenly looked up. Cold sweat trickled down her jawline from her temples, but she revealed a bloody smile.

She slowly closed her eyes. Green, silver, and purple spiritual power extended from the back of her head, piercing into Lan Cangming’s forehead.

Lan Cangming’s entire body trembled violently, the ice-blue scales under his military uniform bristling uncontrollably.

He stared in disbelief at Su An’an’s reddened eyes.

"You want to learn by synchronizing our spiritual power?"

"That’s right."

Su An’an’s voice, mixed with fluctuations of spiritual power, slamd into his sea of consciousness, carrying an unyielding determination:

"Your spiritual power will be the key, and mine will be the decoder."

’Your Highness, you can’t! If you fail, not only will Big Fish’s Beast Core shatter and his genes degrade, but your sea of consciousness will be torn apart too!’

Little Pink objected frantically.

"No!"

Lan Cangming’s voice was almost a low growl. He instinctively tried to break free from the entanglent of Su An’an’s spiritual tendrils, but she held him firmly by the back of his neck.

"Do you not trust , or do you not trust your love?"

Su An’an stood on her tiptoes and bit his lip hard enough to leave a bloody mark. She threatened,

"Or are you saying you want to divorce right now?"
