Chapter 28: Uravis

Cassian stood up, brushing off the dust from his hands. His golden eyes glead with excitent as he examined the runic portal. The intricate patterns were glowing faintly and pulsing as though they were waiting for sothing—perhaps a key, a sacrifice, or sheer brute force—to activate them.

"Well, I guess I’ll have to find out," he muttered.

He placed his hand over the center of the rune, and instantly, a surge of mana rushed from his palm, flowing inside the runes. The mana loaded the runes with their energy and slowly charged them up, causing the runic symbols to light up one at a ti. Each symbol differed from the other, having different functions, but they all led to one result, the portal.

Every ti they charged up, a glitched light flickered within the portal, notifying him that it was slowly being activated.

He considered whether to use the mana recovery potion. Unlike Genesis, the portal wasn’t devouring his mana but just slowly and patiently absorbing it. He could take his ti activating it, and he did that.

Rather than using the potion to speed up the activation process, he waited until his mana reserves were low, then took so rest, continuing afterward. Although it was boring, he browsed through his mories regarding the novel contents about this place to pass the ti.

The Temple he was currently in was once the resting palace of the Magus Elentus, Uravis. Uravis was an exceptional magus—lofty, powerful, and benevolent. Unlike the typical magus, who were eccentric and anti-social, he was quite the opposite. Liked and respected by everyone, he was heralded as the Roaming Sage during his ti.

During his journey around the world, he stumbled upon a fragnt of the cosmic treasure called the Orb of Elentus. This was the mont when his fate changed drastically from being a Sage of the people to the Sage of the whole world.

He studied the orb of Elentus for almost a decade before being able to utilize it properly. It was unlike any treasure he’d ever witnessed, and when he’d said that, he truly ant those words. He imdiately took the orb to his friend Bjorn, the greatest artisan of his ti, and with the help of Bjorn, a mage staff capable of harnessing the power of the Orb was created.

Uravis earned the title ’The Magus Elentus’ after the battle of Vrahan, where he single-handedly defeated the enemy’s army battalion of almost a hundred thousand soldiers, through the sheer demonstration of his power.

Rather than killing them, he made them surrender under his might, summoning a natural calamity using the Astralis, his staff. [Helios Cataclysm], a move so devastating that it could turn a natural forest into a desert in an instant.

After the victory, He was declared the strongest Magus, eliciting jealousy and admiration from everyone, whether friends or enemies. Others tried imitating him but, imitation was just that...a re shadow that could never overpower the Sun.

Sadly, he disappeared mysteriously shortly after earning the strongest magus title. The cause behind his disappearance was unknown, and nobody ever heard from him afterward, not even his closest allies or family mbers.

So believed he challenged the Gods after being drunk by power and suffered their wrath, while others believed he was murdered due to people’s greed and jealousy.

"Heh, Bunch of fools! He wasn’t murdered or suffered God’s wrath, he was just silently facing another battle." Cassian sneered, thinking about all those hypocrites who celebrated after learning about his death.

The kingdoms and empires were unhappy with Uravis’s growing fa. They didn’t care about his good deeds or achievents, they just wanted benefits which didn’t match well with his philosophy. His disappearance allowed them to regain their influence around the people and they even used his na for their various propagandas.

"Kindness is truly unjust in this damn world." He muttered, shaking his head. Uravis’s history was erased by the sa people that he’d helped, a pitiful ending for such a great figure.

He understood that the more he learned about this world, the more he would despise it.

"The stars gave their blessing, the chosen one was born, but, was it the right choice?" His hands reached out to the stars, wondering what fate lay ahead of him.

The story had started to change the mont he’d reincarnated here—butterfly effect if you may call it. He had pondered countless tis in the past, about his goal, about his future and it all led to a single conclusion...SURVIVE!!

He stared at the stars twinkling behind the clouds and then at the sword, hanging on his waist. "Constellation, Divinities, Profanities...truly a broken world I’ve reincarnated in." A bitter smile stretched on his face, the remainder of the haunting future.

slap

"Why am I being so depressing, I still have a long life ahead." He lightly slapped himself, waking up from those negative thoughts. His gaze landed on the stars for a final ti as he smiled, ’Mom, Dad, I miss you.’

ziiing–!

A sharp sound blasted through the runes, startling him from the nostalgia. He hurriedly looked down, checking the runes on the floor. Most of the runes had already lit up, casting a srizing glow around the temple. Despite the destruction and weariness it faced for millennials, the temple still displayed the beauty of the past, the forgotten history.

"Last one." He whispered, stretching his hand toward the final rune. He had taken several breaks along the way and took his sweet ti in filling the portal up. Once the final rune lights up, He would imdiately be teleported to sowhere unknown.

"I hope the portal follows the script and teleports to the right place, else I’m fucked." A sense of nervousness crept in as he prepared for the teleportation. Despite the prior knowledge about the place he was heading, he still couldn’t help but doubt himself.

This was a real world filled with real people with actions and emotions behind them. It’s not a fantasy story anymore, and every step he takes, has its own consequences now.

flash

The mont the final rune lit up, a blinding light shone through the portal, throwing Cassian off guard. He hurriedly closed his eyes and the next mont, he sensed a sudden spatial shift under him.

’Please, I don’t want any surprises anymore, just teleport to my destination.’ he thought, slowly opening his eyes.

"Hmm?!"
