Chapter 223: Chapter 14: Shocking_2
Kor’s distrust did not arise from his understanding of magic, but rather from a perspective of human nature. In the several days since the mysterious mage arrived in Caucasus, she had not uttered more than ten sentences, usually staying in her room without taking half a step outside. Even when Mihailovich questioned her, she rely dismissed him with a “I beg your pardon, but I cannot disclose anything.” If it weren’t for the letter that convinced Mihailovich to accept her, it’s likely that no one would have welcod her. Yet, it was peculiar that such a reticent individual would go to great lengths to explain a magic spell to everyone, attempting to convince them that the origin of her magic was normal. This was indeed too surprising. Magicians have always been proud and disdain explaining or introducing anything to others, and it was precisely she who exhibited this to the extre now displaying such bizarre behavior. Kor couldn’t help but feel puzzled, of course, not knowing what had made her lose her composure.
As the Giant Ape Corpses disappeared, the passage once again beca peaceful. What was expected to be a fierce battle had been effortlessly eliminated by the newcor, which also bolstered everyone’s confidence in their adventure party. Even Kor, despite his doubts about the mysterious magician, felt that it was at least a good thing to have such a powerful ally in this exploration. Only Rebry, while appearing outwardly normal, had already begun to quietly pay close attention to the newcor’s every move, of course all of this was done without being noticed.
“Newman, since you recognize this as Bureimoden Text, why don’t you tell us all what these symbols an? Let’s see what they’re actually about,” said Mihailovich, obviously much more at ease after the imminent danger had suddenly vanished.
“No, no, I’m sorry, I can only identify the text, but it’s not the sa as the current Orc Text. I think it would be very difficult to find many people on the Continent who can recognize these symbols,” Newman shook his head, his complexion returning to normal. The ergence of the Giant Ape Corpses had indeed shaken him, but he had not expected the horde he regarded as fierce as flood and beasts to be so easily dealt with by a companion’s effortless actions, which gave him an infinite boost of confidence.
“Oh, that’s too bad, it looks like we’ll have to wait until after the exploration to reflect on the aning of these symbols,” Mihailovich shifted his gaze towards Rebry, who was lost in thought, “Rebry, shall we move forward?”
“Of course, could a group of zombie apes really scare us off?” Rebry shrugged with an insinuating smile, “Now that we have a mage who is proficient in Light Magic with us, I think this adventure will be much smoother.”
The dark passage seed to have no end as the group continued to move forward in the sa order as before, but their steps were now much more cautious. They had just stepped into the dark corridor and encountered the Giant Ape Corpses. If it hadn’t been for the newly joined companion who was skilled in Light Magic, whose exceptional Light Magic spell shined brightly, who knows how much effort the rest of the group would need to dispense with the zombie apes? What other twists and turns might they encounter on the rest of the journey, and who could say for sure? The secrets of Damarlinsk Castle seed to be getting further and further away from the group at this mont. Just opening a single secret path had led to such a complex experience—what about the other two secret doors that had been discovered? And what about those secret paths yet to be found?
The passage was more like a maze. After carefully advancing about one hundred ters, another fork appeared before the group, but this ti it was a crossroads. The path straight ahead seed slightly narrower, while the corridors to the left and right were much wider, plunging the group into a new dilemma.
Three passages appeared, yet the adventure group of only seven mbers had to make a choice? The group imdiately broke into an argunt. This ti, the Mysterious Magician was unable to persuade the others. The encounter with the Giant Ape Corpses seed to have cast doubt upon his judgnt. Even though the Giant Ape Corpses were taken care of by the magician alone, there was no guarantee that luck would be on their side the next ti. The danger of the Giant Ape Corpses was well-known to all, and what might they encounter next?
Mihailovich and the two Dark Knights proposed going straight ahead, as the straight passage seed to be slightly different from the wider channels on each side. The wider channels might be advantageous for Magicians, but for the two Dark Knights, an overly spacious environnt was as much of a threat as it was a benefit, they would rather choose the middle passage better suited for displaying their martial arts. Newman seed more inclined to turn left, with the threat on the right being significant, and perhaps the left would be more manageable—this was Newman’s simple yet practical reasoning. And this ti, Rebry unusually chose to support the Mysterious Magician’s opinion, which caught Kor, who had been on the side without expressing any stance, by surprise. He could sense Rebry’s attentive scrutiny of the Mysterious Magician, even tinged with caution, yet at such a mont, he had chosen to support the other’s opinion. Kor felt as if he understood sothing.
When Kor also decided to support the Mysterious Magician, Mihailovich changed his stance and agreed to continue to the right. Thus, the remaining three mbers had no choice but to comply with the majority.
The adventurers soon discovered that their choice might not have been wrong. The spiral descent was unusually calm and safe, unobstructed, and the grandiose designs on the stone walls on both sides captivated everyone who conjured up Sphere of Light Spells for illumination. These designs were almost mythical in nature, depicting various odd creatures, giant Magical Beasts, dragon-shaped monsters, and all forms of Undead Creatures, all portrayed in the stone wall carvings. Apart from these unimaginable scenarios, the only humanoid protagonist in the drawings was very blurred. It seed the carver intentionally obscured the image of this protagonist. Other than being able to see a tall and robust figure with exceptionally clear eyes, the rest of the parts were indistinct, puzzling everyone.
Because of these lifelike beautiful stone carvings, the group unwittingly slowed down their pace. After unanimously deducing, they concluded that the images were a set of praises extolling the protagonist for slaying demons and exorcising evil. However, the overly obscure image of the protagonist left them unable to guess which deity it could be.
Kor, however, was truly shocked! How similar this was to the scenes that had appeared in his dreams! It was as if soone had carved out the patterns based on the experiences that unfolded in his vision, especially the eyes of the protagonist, which were exactly like those of Kennifer III, whom Kor conversed with in his nightmare. The blending of desolation and persistence in those eyes was depicted to an extraordinary degree!
Kor could hardly imagine finding such a bizarre spectacle in the subterranean complexes of Damarlinsk Castle. To others, it might just be a nearly mythological carving, but for Kor, who knew the secret of Kennifer III’s heritage, it suggested that the real master who built this castle had a dubious identity. Who could this person be? Why choose to build such a magnificent castle in Caucasus, and how did they know of Kennifer III’s experiences? The castle, built one hundred and sixty years ago, while according to Kennifer III himself, the fall of the Dark Empire happened five hundred years ago. In those intervening three hundred years, the brilliance of that bygone cot-like glory had not been diminished!
