Chapter 205: Chapter 6: Filth

The arrival of Hoffman, Tracy, and their three-person party added so liveliness to the Caucasus, where a banquet was held for the three distinguished guests as well as Princess Vero, who had arrived earlier. Kor had invited all the prominent gentlen of the Caucasus Region.

Unfortunately, the Caucasus was far too humble. In the entire territory, there was only Kor, a baron, as well as Ilot and Puber, two low-ranking nobles with knightly titles, aside from them there was only one more person considered a noble, a certain lbourne Lord who wasn’t even properly nobility, having only purchased a lordly title without any land to his na or formal recognition.

Beyond that, there was a large number of affluent but otherwise status-lacking rchants. This made the banquet sowhat farcical. Even Hoffman and others felt it beneath them to attend such an event. However, as the host, Kor seed oblivious, introducing Hoffman and the others to each guest, leading to a sowhat awkward atmosphere at the banquet.

Fortunately, these wealthy rchants, although not of noble birth, were not lacking in etiquette. As rchants, they had also attended such gatherings in their own countries and city-states, only the guests there had not possessed the nobility present this ti.

During Hoffman’s visit to the Caucasus, aside from that one conversation opportunity, Tracy seed to keep a tight leash on both Hoffman and Renta’s whereabouts, never affording Kor another chance to be alone with Hoffman. However, she herself took several walks with Kor which sparked endless recollections of the past for him. The past was gone, the people remained, everything seed to enter a tunnel where ti flowed backwards, often leaving Kor in a trance.

Princess Vero was able to sense the special relationship that once existed between the woman before her and Kor. While Kor could hide it, her exceptionally keen Spiritual Sense accurately perceived the awkwardness mixed with an odd air between the two.

Tracy behaved much more normally, while Kor was not as adept at concealing his feelings. It seed that the rumors about them were not unfounded. However, she felt that the intimacy and unspoken understanding that might have been imagined to exist between them was gone, replaced by a sowhat deliberate coldness. Both seed to focus more attention on the other two visiting guests, to the disappointnt of Princess Vero.

Princess Vero had no interest in political matters. To her, arriving in the Caucasus felt like a heavenly freedom–green hills, brilliant sunshine, fresh air, new environnts, and kind people–all of which made her joyful and reluctant to return. Those around her seed to understand her feelings and never ntioned any botherso issues. How wonderful it would be if it could always be like this.

She found herself particularly interested in the past between Kor and Tracy. Although she pretended not to care, she couldn’t hide the truth from herself. Even a casual word, gesture, or look between Kor and Tracy could send her imagination soaring.

She felt as if she were under so bewitching spell. Could it be that she was actually developing feelings for Kor, who always seed to hide a tinge of lancholy behind his sunlit smile?

She couldn’t be sure, but she knew deep down that the fla of jealousy was scorching her fragile heart. What did jealousy imply? Even a fool would know. What should she do?

Hoffman and his party finally left satisfied three days later.

Hoffman and Renta were very pleased with Kor’s performance. Five hundred half-beast soldiers under his direct command might not seem much, but what intrigued Hoffman and Renta was Kor’s promise to assist the rebel insurgents in the chaotic Leon Region.

Hoffman promised to send soone as soon as possible to contact Kor and discuss the logistics of sea shipnts to the Caucasus, including weapons, armor, and especially food supplies.

Kor pointed out that this was the largest bottleneck restricting the insurgents’ growth, and to break it, the volu of imports must be substantially increased.

Hoffman understood that Kor was looking to profit from the situation, as the Caucasus too lacked food. Although Mattdam had opened its port, importing food on such a large scale under Philip’s watchful eye invited concern for many food rchants. Moreover, food production in the region primarily ca from the Busen Plain and the Galle Plain in the Galle Region, both under the control of Philip and Zellin’s alliance. So, a comprehensive plan was necessary to import large amounts of food to the Caucasus.

The departure of Hoffman’s party left Kor feeling lost. During this ti, Tracy and Kor had also a profound conversation, in which she formally requested that Kor not enforce the “Utrecht Decree” and not to get too entangled with the kingdom, emphasizing that the Caucasus belonged first to the Hor region, then to the kingdom’s territory, and that this relationship should not be confused, lest it cause significant trouble.

This politically charged conversation finally brought relief to Kor’s soul, which had been troubled by an inexplicable emotion. Even Kor didn’t know why, after the talk ended, the oppression and gloom in his heart had eased, although not yet completely back to normal. But given ti, he believed he could free himself from these ntal shackles.
