Chapter 140: Chapter 6: Darkness
All settled into calmness, the world around seed to fall into utter silence. Kor’s body slowly collapsed to the ground, and he knew that everything was over. At this mont, the sky was so clear and dazzling, the warm sunshine gently poured over Kor, with blue sky and green trees all around providing shade. Even the air at this ti felt so fresh. Kor just wanted to sleep well, but he knew he couldn’t rest at this ti. Surviving the danger of magic power rebound ant that he had reached a new level in his control over magic power and improvent in his spiritual power. Every crisis brought about an elevation in his abilities, which left Kor both worried and happy. However, such risks were far too great. Unless absolutely necessary, Kor would rather choose to steadfastly cultivate step by step than resort to this nearly insane thod to enhance his abilities. After all, he was still young with plenty of ti and opportunities. But if such a life-risking thod of improvent failed, it would an doom.
Ilot triumphantly stood in front of the ogre. He didn’t know what magic Kor had cast that finally made the frenzied ogre collapse after exhausting its endless strength. It was very easy for him to pierce the vital spot under the ogre’s armpit with his sword. This magical beast that had been troubling them for almost an hour finally fell heavily in front of him. Ilot, who had escaped death, fell into ecstasy, so much so that he didn’t even notice when the assassin, who had remained silent from start to finish, had disappeared.
After posturing heroically with one foot on the massive body of the ogre and flaunting for a good while, he realized that his boss was still lying limp nearby, and the assassin had long since vanished without a trace.
“Ilot, quickly split open the heads of these ogres. Deep within their brows lies a crystal core. Search for it carefully; it might not be very big, but it’s very useful.” At this mont, Kor couldn’t even move a finger. Aside from using his entire will to fight off the heaviness of his eyelids, he could only issue a feeble command to his companion, who was still imrsed in the joy of surviving a brush with death.
“Hehe, right away.” Ilot snapped out of his excitent, and imdiately fell back into ecstasy. His greed for the treasures found on the bodies of magical beasts was no less intense than Puber’s. The utility of a core crystal didn’t need explanation—it was surely an important ingredient magicians used for making props. And having heard before coming here that the war drums made from ogre skin had the effect of bewitching people’s hearts, Ilot didn’t know if it was true or not. But at least one thing was certain: the value of these drums was definitely much higher than ordinary ones.
“Also, Ilot, carefully cut out the poison glands under the armpits of these ogres. I have a dagger here that you can use to do so. And when cutting the skin and poison glands, make sure to wear anti-poison gloves. I have a pair in this pouch around my waist. Co over, help
up, let
lean against that slope over there.” After saying this, Kor indeed had no more strength and could only lie on the ground waiting. Ilot hadn’t realized how uncomfortable it was for him to be lying on the ground, but it was better to directly order him outright than to expect him to figure it out on his own.
After helping Kor to lie down on a flat spot on the slope, Ilot rembered that there was another helper who seed to have vanished. Hurriedly, he looked around but found no trace—as if they had simply turned into air.
Seeing his companion’s puzzled look, Kor did not want to keep it from him, but he genuinely lacked the energy to explain and simply closed his eyes and sat upright, imdiately entering a ditative state.
However, Kor’s desired ditation didn’t last long. Even before Ilot’s skinning work was completed, Kor was roused from ditation by wave after wave of howling. Although it only lasted a short half-hour, Kor felt as if a whole day had passed, with the surging magic power inside his body ebbing and flowing unpredictably like the tide. And with this half-hour of rest, Ilot had also regained most of his strength, enough to face any unexpected events calmly.
The howling coming from afar was undoubtedly from the kindred of the ogres that had beco their prey. The dying howls of the four ogres before had similarly called out for a response from their kin. Thankfully, Kor was sowhat relieved that their peers hadn’t promptly arrived to see the ogres to the end after so long.
Even while entering the ditative state, Kor didn’t dare to relax his spiritual sense. After regaining a bit of magic power, he released a low-cost air magic—Level 3 Sky Absorption Wave Technique. This minor magic could use the air as a dium to effectively monitor magic power fluctuations within a mile. If any demon that couldn’t conceal its magic aura entered the area, the magic would inform the caster through airbourne waves, allowing the caster to be forewarned and prepare for any encounter. However, such minor magic held no value to magicians skilled at hiding their magic power and wasn’t much use in complex geographical environnts. Its application was limited; it only worked in relatively flat terrains without any notable geographical features that might affect its efficacy.
