Alexander got ho exactly dinner ti. He went to his room to cool off before stepping outside with fresh clothes on. He joined them during dinner, this ti it was a full table cause everyone was present.
"Where did you go to brother?" Athyst asked, she wondered why he ca back later than the rest.
"The palace." He replied, his eyes still focused on his food. He wasn’t in a good mood and he needed rest.
Athyst frowned, she and Arthur stole a glance before she turned to him. It was weird, they never once summoned him to their palace or even if they did Alexander wouldn’t bother going because he was always busy so what did they discuss about.
Athyst wanted to ask a question but Alexander beat her to it. "I’m tired." He said before raising up from his chair and walking out of the room. They all could sense the aura coming from the king.
"What do you think they told him?" Athyst asked Arthur. "I have no idea, whatever it is surely has ruined his mood for tonight." He said and they nodded.
"The forr King and Queen are still alive?" Serena asked. Athyst nodded. "Hmm, father and mother are alive and well. Vampires live for a very long ti you know." She said.
Serena was surprised by the news, Alexander’s parent were still alive and it didn’t look like it. First he has a separate palace from his parents which was weird and two he never made ntion of them, he didn’t even have a portrait or sothing of them.
Dinner went by fast and they all retired to their chambers. Serena paced around, she wanted to check if the king was doing well, she almost knocked on his door but she decided not to, the king needed so ti alone to himself and she was going to respect that. She went back to her room to relax and without anything to do that fell asleep quite fast.
___
Morning ca by fast, she went to the dining table but there was no sign of the king. She dined with Derick, Arthur and the princess, the dining room was silent until a guard walked in.
"Sir Derick, there is a miss Dana Sally here to see you." The guard announced and Derick’s demineor changed entirely.
"Who’s Dana Sally?" Arthur asked, he wondered who that was, Derick never had visitors.
"Let her in." that was all that ca out of his mouth as he continued to eat his food. The guard nodded, he turned around and walked away and after a few minutes he was back with Dana beside him.
"Good moring Lady Serena, Sir Derick, Lord Arthur and your highness, Miss Corene asked to deliver the dresses." She said with a smile.
They all replied to her greetings execpt Derick. Serena understood why his deanor changed, the girl was openly satring at him with a wide smile.
"You can drop them, the maids would have them delivered to their rooms." Derick said and she nodded, she dropped the dress and a mont passed of pure silence.
"The invoice?" Derick asked with a raised brow. She chuckled nervously before pulling out a paper from her pocket and handed it to Derick who scanned the content in it.
He then pulled out a pouch before giving it back to her, she took it and placed it in her pocket. "Thank you sir Derick, you’ve been kind." She praised shyly.
"I believe we’re done with the business." Derick said and she nodded sadly. "Unfortunately we are, I’ll take my leave now, I hope to see you soon." She said before turning around to leave.
Derick excused himself before leaving the room, he didn’t even finish his food. Serena turned to Arthur. "Is he okay?" She asked.
Arthur just leaned back. "He will be." He said.
Athyst shook her head. "He’s just like Alexander." she said with a shrug.
The day went by fast, all she had to do was prepare herself for the journey. Throughout the day she didn’t set her eyes on the king, no one knew where he was and Arthur didn’t seem surprised when she asked about him. It seems he does that a lot.
By noon, Alexander ca back from wherever he went, the carriage and everthing was set. The guards were busy loading the boxes into the carriage.
"What is that?" Arthur asked gesturing to a wrapped gift which one of the guard was carrying into one of the carriage. "He wants to deliver it to Luminae, a gift for his wife." Akexander replied, Arthur nodded, he already babe who the he was.
"Cheer up, it’s rather unfortunate that I wouldn’t be accompanying you to Luminae. Don’t miss too much." Arthur said with a smile, Alexander almost laughed but instead he chuckled.
"Take care of the palace and also investigate on the serpent tattoo, we would surely find her sowhere and also ask the witch for help, if needed." Alexander said and Arthur nodded.
"Do not keep the lady waiting." Arthur said. "Oh and you Serena asked of you this morning, you shouldn’t keep her in the dark like that, she—" Arthur didn’t get to finish his sentence when Alexander walked away past him and entered the carriage.
Arthur scoffed. "He ignored again." He murmured with a smile.
___
Serena watched as he climbed into the carriage and sat beside her, this was her first ti traveling sowhere and she was traveling with the king, being so close to the king in a small carriage was a little too much for her but what choice does she have.
She turned away from the king and looked outside. "Did you sleep well your majesty?" she summoned the courage to ask.
Alexander closed his eyes and leaned his head close to the door. "Hmm" he humd. Serena didn’t know if she should talk or not but she decided to say it. "I was worried last night, you did not seam to be in a good mood." She said.
"Why were you worried about ? You’re not my wife so stop." He said. Serena turned to face him, her green eyes staring into his. "I don’t need to be your wife to worry about you." She said, her tone firm. He tore away his gaze from hers, she was getting bolder in front of him.
The carriage fell silent again and this ti no one had anything to say though she wanted to ask more questions about his parents and their relationship but she opted not to, she was sure they didn’t have a good relationship.
The journey was long and boring, Serena didn’t have anything to do so she relaxed her head near the carriage wall and closed her eyes. It didn’t take long for sleep to overco her.
The carriage passed a series of uneven road which made Serena’s head move a lot, she was about to hit her head when Alexander held it in ti, he guided her head calmly to rest on his shoulder. A sigh escaped his lips, she looked so calm and peaceful, her beauty was different, rare and pure. She was growing on him and he didn’t know how long he can last.
The carriage sudden jolted and stopped causing Serena to open her eyes, she looked around and realised she was resting on the king’s shoulders. She raised her head, a blush crept on her cheek.
"What happened?" She asked rubbing her eyes. Alexander frowned. "I think the tire hit a stone or sothing." He said unsure of the situation outside.
The coachman jumped down and ran to the carriage window. "You majesty, we’re under attack, by bandits." He said, his voice held fear.
Alexander eyes darkened. "Fucking bandits." He muttered, he turned to Serena. "Whatever happens do not co out or look out the window, just stay here." He said his voice firm.
Serena nodded, he was about to leave when she held his hand. "Are you going out there?" She asked, a very stupid question but she was too scared to even think.
"I’ll be right back." He said before stepping out of the carriage. His calendar in everthing still baffles Serena, he was a strong vampire after all.
It was night and pitch black but he could see perfectly, his eyes scanned the area, two of his guard were lying dead, their body twisted in an unnatural position, with a slit on their neck and stomach.
These aren’t bandits, they knew not to ss with him but he was angry at whatever the things are. A group of n walked towards him, holding swords, Alexander just stared at them.
"Who sent you?" He asked, boredom lacing in his voice. One stepped foward. "That isn’t the problem, this would be your death bed." He said with a snicker.
Alexander shruged. Seeing the king unbothered, he got irritated and lunged foward to attack, he swung his sword wanting to hit the king but Alexander caught it mid air.
"You don’t read the signs in front of you." He said, he broke the sword into two. The attackers eyes widen in surprise, he attacked again with him other hand but Alexander held the other half of the broken blade and stabbed the man in the neck, blood gushed out and he fell to the ground dead.
