"Ah, I see," Lady Marceline replied. "You can't fault him there, can you? His parents were completely annihilated by these c-creatures, and now his mate would be running to them. Mind you, a pregnant mate." Lady Marceline glanced down at her stomach.

"I am not asking to fight them," Mauve stated.

"I know you're not," Lady Marceline replied. "But I doubt Jael can separate the two. To him, your involvent simply ans that."

Mauve sighed. "Are you asking that I do nothing?"

"Of course not. Palers are our mortal enemies. I will encourage any plan that would get rid of them. However, it would be hypocritical of to pretend this isn't dangerous for you. I did scold Louis. It's not a bad thing that he taught you magic, but it was a bit selfish. Still, I am glad we found the answer we've been looking for. The hard part is done."

"I suppose it is," Mauve replied, but she didn't think much would change.

"I should let you rest. I only ca by to check on you," Lady Marceline said and turned to Alaric. "Don't you have anything to say to her?"

Alaric shook his head and lowered it further. Lady Marceline sighed and turned back to Mauve. "We best be on our way. Let know if you need anything. The castle has been quite busy, especially today."

"How's the stay so far?" Mauve suddenly blurted. "I know you're here for . It mustn't be easy to stay in soone's ho."

"What are you talking about? Until I married Alaric here, this used to be my ho. Worry not; if I didn't want to stay, I wouldn't have offered. If you're worried about Alaric, don't be. As long as he gets his usual rest, he should be fine. Isn't that right, Alaric?"

"It is," he said under his breath.

"I'm glad," Mauve said with a bright smile. "If there is anything you need, please let know."

"That's my line. I don't think my presence has been of much help." Lady Marceline glanced at Mauve's stomach again.

"Don't say that," Mauve said, rising from the bed. "Just your presence has been most helpful. I am just in the middle of the second quarter of my pregnancy. I still have a lot of months to go. I'll need you even more."

"I'll be more than happy to help," Lady Marceline bead at her. "I can't wait to be a grand aunt. Hopefully, the child will take after you and not the stubborn father."

Mauve laughed and said, "I am grateful." She was still smiling when Lady Marceline left the room.

Mauve adjusted in bed and got comfortable. All she could do right now was get so rest. Hopefully, she might be able to get so information before the last al. She wanted to go around, but she would only get in the way, and that might piss off Jael even more.

Mauve slowly woke up as she felt soone join her in bed. She opened her eyes to see Jael staring right at her face. "Did I wake you?" Jael asked.

Mauve groaned and moved to a sitting position. "Yeah," she replied mid-yawn. "But I've been asleep for a while. Is sothing wrong?" she asked with concern on her face as she returned his gaze.

"Why do you think that?" he asked.

"I was just wondering," she mumbled.

"Nothing is wrong. Most of the damage caused by the Palers has been taken care of."

Mauve nodded as she listened. "That's good to hear," she replied with a smile.

"Did you get enough sleep?" he asked.

Mauve nodded, scooting closer to him. "I feel fine."

"And your stomach?" Jael asked.

"It already felt better before the second al," she replied.

"Okay," he replied and grabbed her hand.

"Is sothing wrong?" she asked.

Jael shook his head. "I sent a letter to Kieran," he whispered.

Mauve's eyes widened, and she turned to look at him. "You did?" She couldn't contain her shock.

"Yes," he replied. "More than anyone, Kieran deserved to know." He narrowed his eyes at her expression. "This doesn't an anything."

"I know," she replied, nodding her head, but Mauve couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face. She did her best to hide it from him.

"Do you still want to sleep so more?" he asked.

Mauve shook her head. "I am fine," she replied.

"It is ti for the last al, but you can have your last al here if you'd prefer that. The castle is still in a bit of a ss—"

Jael was barely done speaking when Mauve started to get out of bed. No way would she remain in bed. This was the only way to find out what was going on in the castle. "No need for that. Dinner in the hall is fine by ."

Jael nodded and walked toward her. He stretched out his elbow to her, and she quickly slipped her hand through it. Was it just her, or did he seem to be in a better mood? Or was she mistaken? Anyway, she was just glad he wasn't angry.

They got to the dining hall, and Mauve couldn't help the relief she felt. Only a few people were missing, and most importantly, Louis was back. As soon as she sat down, she asked, "Is your leg better now?"

Louis lifted his head, and his gaze narrowed before a fake smile appeared. "Ah, yes. Thank you, my lady."

Mauve frowned a little but decided not to dwell on it. "That's good to hear."

"Yes, it is," Jael joined in. "The faster you get better, the faster you can deal with your new duties."

Louis jerked his head toward Jael, just as all the people at the table turned to look at him. Mauve suddenly realized what the matter was. She had completely forgotten Jael had assigned Louis to deal with the questions the vampires might have. Poor Louis must be overwheld.

Mauve had expected to deal with so questions, but surprisingly, no one asked her anything. She was grateful for this. Not only did she not know what to tell them, but she was also worried things might escalate in the wrong direction because of her.

Things weren't good now, but they weren't as bad as she had expected. The vampires looked relieved, but she couldn't draw any conclusions right now. She turned to look at Jael, and he just smiled at her before squeezing her hand. That was surprisingly very reassuring.
