Mauve slowly opened her eyes. She knew imdiately that she had slept in. She groaned as she rolled from her back to her side. She could never roll forward again, not until after the birth of the child, but that wasn't why she was irked right now. Jael never woke her up. He always let her sleep in, and she hated that.

Mauve sat upright. Her sleeping schedule was all over the place. Since she slept during the night, it usually took a while for her to sleep during the day, which ant she woke up even later. Mauve was trying to change this, but whenever she slept during the day, it felt like her soul was being sucked out of her body, and there was nothing she could do to stop it.

She threw her legs over the bed and yawned. Other than her sleeping getting worse, Mauve had noticed a few other things. One, her temperature was increasing—not that she was sick, but it was just annoyingly hot. The second was ridiculous, and she was convinced she was just imagining things. There was no way she was getting stronger.

Mauve laughed at the idea. Oversleeping must have done a number on her brain. She stood up and stretched. However, her stretch was cut short. Mauve jerked, laughing—soone else was awake. She rubbed her stomach, triggering another kick.

The first ti this had happened, she had been so scared and worried, she had imdiately asked for Jael. However, the baby didn't move again, and she had almost thought she had imagined it. But she could clearly rember the sensation. There was no way she had imagined that. It wasn't until almost two nights later, and this ti Jael was with her.

"Did you see that?" she asked with a mix of horror and excitent.

"I heard it," Jael replied, turning his eyes to her stomach as they lay in bed.

"What was that?" she asked, a bit worried.

"I think the baby is moving," Jael said, bringing his head closer as though to listen in.

"Moving? That felt like a kick, Jael," she replied.

"Did it hurt?" he asked softly.

"Uh-uh," she said, shaking her head.

"That's good," he whispered and kissed her stomach, causing her to giggle.

That was a few nights ago; the baby was really growing fast. Mauve rubbed her stomach and said, "Did you sleep well? You're making Mama oversleep. Do you know that?" She was still smiling when she walked toward the string to summon a servant.

The two months after Sabrina left had put a strain on her and Jael's relationship, but thankfully, things have cald down now. However, it wasn't just Sabrina leaving—it was what they had to deal with after she did. The lords were relentless.

Mauve groaned as she sat on the bed. Jael had to chase a lot of them off and reply to letters, but surprisingly, it cald down after a few weeks. Lady Marceline said a child wasn't the worst thing—at least not yet.

Mauve didn't like how she interpreted it. Were the lords not expecting her to reach full term? What did that imply? She touched her stomach again. She felt fine, to be honest. Aside from the sleep spells, nausea, and overeating—and the weird part about feeling like she was stronger—everything was peachy.

Two knocks caused her to raise her head. "Co in," she said, and the door opened to reveal a servant who bowed. Mauve couldn't help but frown when she saw it wasn't Mill.

"My lady," the servant kept her head low.

"I'd like to wash, and I am famished."

"Is there anything specific you'd like to eat?"

Mauve shook her head. "I am fine with whatever was served at the first al."

"Okay," she said and turned to leave.

Mauve wanted to ask about Mill, but she wasn't the only one attending to her anymore, and Mauve didn't want to burden her with her troubles. "Before that," she said, stopping the maid. "Get sothing to drink."

"Yes, my lady," she said, bowed again, and left the room.

Mauve pushed herself up and made her way to the connecting door. She would wait for the servants in her room and would most likely have her first al there. She wasn't quite sure what she would do imdiately after, but she still had her work cut out for her.

There was also the fact that she could explicitly ask Yasmin questions about how to go about knitting specific things, as she no longer needed to keep it hidden. But in the past weeks, she had gotten so much better that she no longer needed the maid's help.

Mauve was eating her al when Jael walked through the doors. "I heard you are awake," he said, walking in without knocking as usual.

Mauve didn't even bother lifting her head. As soon as she heard the door open, she knew imdiately that it was Jael. She didn't respond, just kept munching on her food. A maid was in the corner of the room, waiting on her.

Jael slid over to her and sat on the bed. "Don't tell you're angry with ," he mumbled. He lay halfway on the bed, propping his head up with his elbow so he could get a proper look at her face.

"Why didn't you wake ?" Mauve asked.

"We've been through this, Mauve, countless—"

"And you still do as you please."

"Yes," he said and lightly touched her face, "because I want nothing but the best for my mate."

Mauve narrowed her eyes at him. "You could have woken up, and then I'd sleep after the first al," she stated.

Jael shrugged. "The first al isn't that important. How did you sleep?"

Mauve's eyes darkened. She didn't like how dismissive he was about the subject, but at the sa ti, she didn't want to fight. Jael seed to be in an awfully good mood, and she didn't want to ruin it.

"Good," she said, then, rembering what had happened after she woke up, she imdiately shared, "The baby kicked." She giggled.
