Mauve stared across from Louis as she sat in the library. Jael was currently busy with Kieran and had left her to her own devices. She didn't know what they were discussing, but Mauve figured it had sothing to do with the Palers.
This was still a major problem vampires experienced, and Jael was deeply worried about it. Who knew when the Palers would attack again? The last two attacks had been terrible, with one ending in many casualties. She knew Jael would like to co up with a better solution before the Palers struck again.
Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do to help in this instance. All she could do was try to be as supportive as possible. Not to ntion that she had problems of her own. She had to fix a ti with Danag. She had so much to do and, at the sa ti, be more active in the affairs of the castle. Mauve didn't like any of this, but she also found that she was excited. A child was coming along—she had to be prepared in every sense.
"No," Louis replied.
"Don't worry, I am not here to force you to teach more spells."
"So you admit you do force ?" Louis said.
"What? No, I don't. You're just a little stubborn. That aside, did sothing happen?" she asked. "You've seed off for the past couple of days."
"Anyone would be off with the incidents that have occurred in the past couple of days. It ended well, but that doesn't make it less stressful," Louis stated.
Mauve didn't buy his explanation. However, she couldn't push and had simply sought him out for a different matter. "Yeah," she replied absentmindedly. "You're right."
Louis frowned at her response. "Is sothing wrong?"
"No, just a little too rested," she chuckled. "I told Lady Marceline."
Louis sat upright. "You did?"
He was clearly shocked. "Jael let you?"
"Yeah, and she decided to stay back."
"I was wondering why she wasn't out of the castle yet."
"You don't think I shouldn't have?" she asked.
"Of course not," he said. "Telling Auntie was a pretty good idea. I just never thought Jael would even let her know, even after the lords are aware. That's why I never suggested you ask her or brought it up with her. She is certainly more knowledgeable about this."
"She didn't tell anything, though," Mauve replied.
"I think you're being unnecessarily worried. It is only the first couple of weeks, and you're not alone. Kieran is here to help you. You really shouldn't be worried."
"Lady Marceline said she had never heard about this before and also ntioned that vampire births were difficult," Mauve muttered, placing her head on the table.
She had really tried to be as positive as she possibly could, but the past three days, where she had been stuck in Jael's room with nothing but her thoughts, she had wandered into places she shouldn't have.
"What are you worried about?" Louis scolded. "Right now, all you have to do is make sure you're eating properly, sleeping properly, and no more magic lessons."
Mauve jerked her head up. "I never agreed to that."
"You have all the help you can get. I promise you'll be fine."
Mauve narrowed her eyes at him. "You didn't sound this confident before."
He smirked at her. "I have several cards up my sleeves."
"I don't like the sound of that," she whispered.
"Don't worry, none of us would let anything happen to you. I promise." Mauve pouted and stared intensely at Louis.
"What?" he asked.
"Can I ask about you and Jael?"
"You're already asking," he said.
"And you're not answering."
"I don't know, but I guess the fact that I am still in the castle is a good thing," Louis replied.
"Have you both had any conversations about it?"
Louis laughed as though she had said the funniest thing. "Of course not. Jael hasn't spoken a word to since then, except to send glares my way, and to be honest, that's well deserved."
"Aren't you going to—"
"No," he interrupted. "There is really no need. Are you sure you don't want any lessons today?"
"Huh? You're the one that said you won't teach ."
"?" Louis asked as he stood up from the table. "I do not recall this." He smirked as he walked to the shelves.
"Stop lying."
"You are getting much better, though. At this point, the library would be unsafe to try more spells."
"We could use the rooftop," she offered.
"We will certainly need more than that. However, we can't."
"Too dangerous?" she asked.
Louis didn't know how to break the news to her. For now, he was hoping there wouldn't be a need for it, but they would be in a lot of trouble if anyone were to ever find out.
Mauve knew Louis was offering more lessons to stop her from asking more questions, but she couldn't refuse. She knew trying to get Louis to speak to Jael was important, but also figuring out how to heal or even perform more complex things with magic was equally important. If she had to trade the forr for the latter, she would do that easily.
By the ti they were done, it was almost ti for the second al, and Jael ca to get her. She didn't miss that he didn't say a word to Louis—he just pulled her away. She thought about saying sothing to him but decided against it. This was their problem to fix. If they wanted to, fine; if not, she had more things to worry about, and this was their fault in the first place.
"You seem lost in thought. What did you talk about with Louis?" he asked.
"Nothing important. How did it go with Kieran?" she asked, changing the subject.
Jael's countenance changed. "Not very good. He agreed to try another experint, but he isn't sure the results would be any different. However, we have to try sothing fast."
Mauve nodded and grabbed his arm tighter. "I am sure he will find sothing useful. It's Kieran, after all."
Jael nodded, but she wasn't sure if he believed her words. She didn't believe them either, but she couldn't help but think they were sure to bump into sothing good sooner or later. Nothing was unkillable.
