"Are you envious?" Alaric asked when they were alone.

"What are you talking about?" Lady Marceline turned to look at her mate. She was clearly shocked by his question.

"Nothing," he whispered and pulled away from her to walk to the bed.

"I am not, okay. I was just shocked," she called after him.

"Okay," he whispered and continued walking.

"Alaric," she called again.

He didn't respond, neither did he turn, just walked to the bed. He lay in bed and pulled the covers over himself. He wouldn't be surprised if she was; he knew how much she wanted a child and this situation was certainly a reason to think about that.

She didn't say it and never complained, but it was clearly sothing she yearned for. He knew she didn't feel anything malicious toward Mauve, but it must have co as an extre shock to discover that a human could get pregnant by a vampire when they hadn't had any luck after trying for more than a decade.

Technically, this wasn't too uncommon, as vampires went decades without having children and sotis never gave birth to more than one or two in their lifetis, so it was never really a topic they had discussed.

However, he knew she worried that she might have found her mate a little too late, whereas he worried that his weak constitution was why they hadn't had any luck.

"I am not envious," she said as she sat down next to him. "I am just worried. I can clearly rember Jael's birth—it was terrible for Victoria, and even days after, she had barely recovered. I just worry."

"I don't think there is anything to worry about. This isn't just a vampire baby," he replied.

"Yeah, I am very shocked by this. I can see why they are being very careful. The lords would have a field day with this," she laughed.

"Don't look so excited," he whispered.

"Why not?" She smiled and then rested her head on him. "Do you mind?" she asked.

Alaric shook his head. He knew what she was talking about.

"You are going to be stuck here for a long ti. You hate new places."

"I will live," he whispered. Maybe, if he had tried just a little harder before now, things would have turned out differently.

"Look at you," she chuckled.

"Do you think I am too young and childish for you?"

"Huh? What brought that on?" she asked.

"Nothing," Alaric said and turned his back to her. She wasn't the only one who blurted out thoughts without thinking properly.

"Yes," Lady Marceline whispered. "I am almost two centuries older than you."

"Don't say it like that," Alaric grumbled.

"I think the correct term would be I am too old for you," she grinned.

"You're not," he stated. "Besides, you're the only one that can deal with all my issues."

"Issues?" she called out in horror. "I call them quirks."

"That's still not a good thing."

"Maybe," she mumbled. "But this is exactly what I want. You."

Mauve kept looking up at Jael, and whenever he looked at her, she brought her gaze down. The walk back to his room felt unusually long, and the tension was so bad she could feel it on her skin.

She knew Jael wasn't happy with the outco, and his mood was more than enough indication. She wanted to talk about it but figured it was best to get to their rooms first.

Jael slamd the door as he walked into his room, and Mauve couldn't help but jerk. "Are you angry?" she whispered as she sat on the bed.

"No," he stated. "Why would you think so?"

Mauve gave him an unimpressed look. "I am sorry," she whispered.

"What are you apologizing for?" he said and sat on the bed.

"I can tell you're angry."

"I am not," he replied. "Fine, maybe a little."

"Are you angry that I told her?" she asked.

"No, I agreed to that. That's not the issue."

"You don't like that she wants to be in the castle to look over ?" Mauve asked.

"Yeah," he admitted.

"I don't think it's a bad idea that she wants to be around, and frankly, I know I would need her help."

"I know, and that's what makes even angrier, but don't worry about it. Nothing is more important."

Mauve wanted to discuss the issues with his aunt so more, but Mauve knew better than to pester Jael about sothing he didn't want to talk about. If he was willing to let Lady Marceline stay for as long as she wanted to help with her pregnancy, she would take it.

She pulled him down and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you," she whispered.

Jael buried his face in the cradle of her neck. His parents were long gone, and nothing would ever bring them back. However, it was hard to rember this when the reason their lives were cut so short was around.

He knew the Palers were more to bla, and dealing with them was the perfect way to get revenge. But his anger was what had kept him going for a long ti. However, he had another reason to live now and to be honest, they were more important.

"I'll do anything for you," he whispered and pulled away. "Now get into bed. If you dare to move from here, you'll have an earful."

"Yes, Sire," Mauve smiled and rolled into bed. "Are you going out?"

"No," he replied and got into bed with her. "Whatever I have to do can wait until tomorrow." He pulled her into his grip, and Mauve giggled in excitent.

"Jael, what are you doing?" She asked as he pulled the covers over them.

"What do you think?" He asked with a smirk.

"I am supposed to be resting," Mauve squealed

"And that's exactly what you're doing. There is nothing wrong with a little company, is there?"

"Jael," Mauve called but she couldn't help but smile.

"How do you feel now?" He asked, staring right into her eyes.

"Really good," she whispered and kissed him.
